    I love that George Lucas is really just an experimental film maker who got to express his abstract ideas in these larger than life blockbuster films

    12:08 This should stop star wars fans saying that anakin turned because of the corruption of the jedi. Lucas himself confirms it that he does it for padme.

    Maybe the 4 hour cut was. The story is great, but the story beats feel rushed. Episode 2 spent a lot of time building up Anakin Skywalker as a misguided yet sympathetic young idealist. The beginning of 3 developed him into a tortured hero, far more concerned with what's right and fair than most Jedi. Nothing about the story prepares the viewer to accept that he's capable of murdering the younglings he's been training alongside other Jedi for years. I get that Lucas needed to shock the audience with Vader's willingness to do some terrible things, things which Anakin could and would never have done. But watching events unfold within the context of Anakin's progressively more horrible moral compromises would've made the whole presentation much more believable, in my opinion.

    Yeah, I put it in my top movies. It was indescribable seeing it in theaters as a kid, a young teen who grew up with these movies since I was born. Just, knowing that you're seeing the conclusion of this story, Like, I couldn't believe I was actually there, it was surreal, literally.

    The George Lucas "fair and square" quote is fake. It's a misquote from the film commentary where George says Mace "overpowers" Sidious, but this is just describing the act of disarming Palpatine, not a declaration Mace won the fight. Literally 2 seconds later he explains Palpatine only pretends to lose power to fool Anakin. Let me say that again: GEORGE LUCAS EXPLICITLY SAYS PALPATINE ONLY PRETENDS TO LOSE POWER. George Lucas never said Mace won the fight, literally the opposite, he confirms the fight was inconclusive.

    People always act like George explicitly says who won the duel, but I find his words vague enough where it's still up for debate. Personally, I always thought Mace won, but George says, "Mace overpowering Palpatine" (suggesting that Mace won) but he also says Palpatine pretends to be weak. (suggesting that Mace maybe didn't actually beat him) Thoughts?

    I take this as Mace truly won the lightsaber duel, however, Sidious was holding back from using his full force powers.

    @@Rathadude Windu legitimately won the sword fight which Lucas clearly confirms in this video by saying Windu overpowered Sidious before Sidious used his lightning. Based on the novel, which Lucas has said is canon, Sidious's lightning would have killed Windu if Sidious wouldn't have stopped and pretended to be weak, so that proves Sidious>Windu

  • @Rathadude

    @Rathadude

    @CahyaTroy That's how I interpreted the fight as well. I think you can come to that conclusion just off the film itself. However, I'm curious about where you saw George say the novel was canon because my understanding is that some of the details in the novel contradict those of the film.

    @Munedawg the thing about that whole narrative is just trying to take away from Lucas himself. Every movie is saved in the editing room. That narrative is just Lucas bashing. Every film is a collaborative effort. I like how every film has editors but only George as a writer/director supposedly does not deserve credit because?? Yeah he did nothing, everyone else deserves credit except him lmao what a joke and people fell for it
