This just shows how good George is👊 not many drummers would sound this good with only mics, and that tuning on the snare! Shure triggers are that extra punch for faster stuff, but sounding this good without is amazing!

I have to admit, I'm quite impressed from what this Video offers concerning information and performance (obviously, seeing George play is always a treat). Even though testing the pedal out in a store is obviously necessary for experiencing it oneself, developing a "complete" opinion on how it feels, works etc. Hopefully I get the opportunity as fast as possible, really looking forward on trying this out
I had the privilege to try Kollias' pedal on Drum Camp 23, and I can say that I couldn't even get a single stroke out of it. It was so damn hard to press, I had to completely stand on top of the pedal to make it reach the drum head, and I am not even joking. Even a death-metal guy had trouble hitting. George made it feel so damn easy.

Still can't believe that they got one of the grandmasters of double bass playing and then had him play one of the slowest Nile songs that he didn't even record originally... This man can play a 280bpm single foot blast and they had him play Sarcophagus in a pedal demonstration video

This is just my thinking on why he chose to play this track, but he wanted to show off the looks of the pedal. Most songs from Nile those pedal/pedals would be a blur lol
Old Nile was soooooo GOOOOOD!
That snare sound 💪

I'll be honest He looked more comfortable playing with his old pedals in his old videos

Yeah I agree, definitely looks like the beater isn’t always making it all the way to head in faster bursts. I had that problem early on when I had an axis and I was getting used to the super high spring tension, and he did also mention these have stupid heavy springs.
@boobtubenoob7061

And actually around 5:10 the slower section I can hear that same feel issue.
@boobtubenoob7061

I had it with the axis where slower tempos the pedal just wanted to go faster and you’d get this weird feeling of stamping on the pedal but it already being at the head so you get this tiny feeling motion and no power and it feels like the pedal is lost under your foot, really weird feeling but I saw and heard that feeling in this video.

Just got the pedal the other day. I love it, but unfortunately in my first session using it, the linkage connecting the footboard to the cam disconnected twice. The screw that connects the linkage to the footboard can’t be over tightened or it puts too much stress on the cam and doesn’t allow the shaft to rotate. I just purchased threadlocker today. I’m really hoping this fixes the issue. Awesome pedal to have a crucial flaw if the lock thread doesn’t work.
They look... GORGEOUS! One thing that always bothered me about the demon drives were the felt beaters. They wore out fairly quick and lost their shape. I always struggled to get the same exact response from the slave pedal as the main pedal (when letting them swing front and back, the slave tended to drag behind for some reason). It's interesting that they took out the circular foot grip on this model. Looks like smooth sailing. On another note, George's playing is phenomenal, I got a chance to see him play with Nile on several ocassions and he always blew everyone out of the water.
@TheBeakertube

Use different beaters for sure. The slave pedal will always be a bit different. The same spring has a bigger job to do. You will always have to have a bit more tension on the slave side, and it will still be a little off. That's just physics, not brand or pedal specific.
You could have chosen literally ANY Nile song and chose "Sarcophagus", one of their slowest songs kick wise? Why would you do that?

No triggers on the drums, meaning any scorching blast beat would've resulted in basically no sound from the kick. Even this song doesn't sound great without triggers amping it up

@@dcmastermindfirst9418 if these feel/perform the same this is a better option than axis. Axis are great but getting spare/replacement parts if you’re not an endorsed touring drummer is an absolute nightmare and they’re so flimsy. They just wear themselves down so fast, the drive shafts especially.

These look like shortboard pedals. Will they also come with a longboard? With the demon drive, you were at least able to convert them to longboards. But nonetheless, they look awesome! Although the orange accents are that tiny bit nicer, still
@1dudecrush
Жыл бұрын
They look to be about as long as the demon drive when turned into a longboard to me. I agree about the red accents on this though, just a bit tacky looking. Kinda like how trick isn’t innovating or changing much but adding new colors. These look more playable than his old Axis pedals, but I worry that Pearl has pigeonholed themselves with their new model. Most people don’t actually like direct drive very much. It’s so niche feeling. Maybe I’m just being a hater, I just think this was a weird move. I’ll always pick a solid feeling chain or even strap drive over direct, and I’m not some outdated old head either. I wanna see these in a chain drive configuration without the red accents.
@boobtubenoob7061
Жыл бұрын
@@1dudecrush I don’t think they’ve necessarily pigeon holed themselves, I think they will just release it with a chain aswell, much like the new DW MDD. The thing is unless you’re playing extreme music like this there are already a shit ton of options and not a lot of advancements to be made, you have an option for everything. You only need these crazy innovations for extreme music. Otherwise just buy an eliminator if you want Pearl, or get a DW9000 if brand isn’t an issue, there really isn’t a need for another chain drive pedal beyond those, and for the people who want overkill but want it to feel like their eliminator, just buy the chain version of this.
Definitely a quality pedal, specialized for 'that' certain playstyle.
Guys he played a slow song to show the versatility of the pedal wow the pedal does fast and slow stuff on his settings now more the just metal drummers will buy it.
George Kollias Делай новый альбом устал ждать))) ТОП Барабанщик !
Tiene que presentar un pedal hecho para tocar a tempos altos y elige los temas mas chotos para tocar, un genio 😂
Its completely fine to make a bare-bones version of the demon drive, and thats not my Problem. My problem is that these cost just over 100€ (talking about the double pedal) MORE than the proper demon drive! This is just stupid
@boobtubenoob7061
Жыл бұрын
The demon drive feels like absolute crap regardless of the settings though, feels like it’s gonna break under your foot. I don’t know of a single extreme metal drummer that uses the demon drive either, it’s from a weird era when direct drive pedals were just gaining more popularity and everyone was making these super adjustable pedals like the DW 9000. Seems like Pearl just freaked out and put every imaginable feature into one mess of a pedal and then paid a bunch of big drummers (notably Mike mangini) to promote it, I’m pretty sure he’s the only one that still uses it too. They haven’t dumbed down the demon drive, they’ve looked at the pedals all the extreme drummers are using (czarcie kopyto, trick, Axis, ADC) and made their own mass produced version, pretty much the same way DW have with the MDD but this is a much more obvious take on the listed pedals. What’s crazy to me is despite this being a mass produced pedal from a huge company it’s still more expensive or the same price as these super high end machined pedals from these super small boutique pedal companies. A trick pro1v Bigfoot is £750 compared to 950 for this 👀👀 wtf
Sounds like an endless song intro that doesn't start lol
Love everything about the pedal except the beaters! Swap them out for their quad or the original Demon Drive beater. I just dont get how someone would prefer those flat ,pancake,suction cup beaters over a round rebounding surface beater. When I first tried some flatbeaters, all I could think of is a piece of cheese slapping against someones bald head! The science had already proved a ball bounces way better than a box
Fire! Playing slower tempo with such high spring tention is actually incredibly difficult. This pedal looks kickass!

He says they are including also a "normal" set of springs with lower tension. So you'd be able to find the perfect setting I guess.
Now I'm struggling between these Pedals and the ACD Darwin:/
@boobtubenoob7061
Жыл бұрын
If you can try them in person, will definitely be a challenge with the ADC but see if you can find someone who has one. They’re very similar but the ADC feels lighter imo.
Im more impressed with the sound engineering nailing a natural kick. Lol
Sucks being a lefty drummer & only having a select few pedals to use. I wish this was made in lefty or offset version :(
So a pedal that does FAR less than the previous top of the line pedal while costing a proper premium price. All this "tailored to fast players, so you don't need to spend time on forums to compare settings" is nonsense, and even worded a bit derogatory, I feel. Structuring adjustments in a simplified way - but actually letting players have them (like Trick pedals do wonderfully) - is the only viable thing to do for the introduction of a new apex pedal, not degrade it and charge upwards. This is a fancy worded, sugar coated rip-off, nothing more.
since george kollias struggled to hit 140bpm on these, i wont even get near it, so much for pedals on steroids. cant wait till the make a pedal with no shaft lag, that would even everything out

Pedals with heavy springs high spring tension are harder to play at medium to low tempos, but easier to play at high tempos. George and many other death metal drummers use heavy springs and high spring tension since they weanna go fast yaknow.. These pedals even come with a heavy spring and a spring with a more normal tension and heaviness. but Czarcie Kopyto tho >>>
