George Kollias - Pearl Reference Pure
Музыка
Hey everyone,
here's a video we did a few months ago of the new Reference Pure series, recorded with 2 mics only so you all get a very live idea of how good this kit sounds!...
This was a jam day in the studio with a little talking to explain what's going on, hope you enjoy it.
Big thanks to Soundtrap Studios, Dimitris Retouniotis, Jon Simvonis and Andreas Papadopoulos for making this happen!

i dont care about brands , this kit sounds damn good
the fact that people are nitpicking this video to find bad things in it makes me sick. george is an amazing drummer and that's all that should matter.

Agreed. Way too many drummers on here have egos bigger than their own dicks.

+Eli Twoyoungmen Blacks drummers must have massive ego's!
i couldnt imagin having a top of the line drum set made out of some quality woods. especially something pearl... has to be so awesome to hear in person
very nice man.. my jaw dropped when i read this was recorded with only 2 mics.. I love my reference, haven't played the pure yet but it sounds amazing!
His swivel technique is on point!

Really interesting to hear George's kicks without triggers or mics. Still quite loud.
They picked the right guy to promote these drums! Still sounds gorgeous.
Awesome. Much respect for George Kollias.
Haha, so you guys think we did this clip cause i got a free drum set or two??? No........ Having an endorsement is not only about getting free gear, and also, you're not supporting anybody that gives you free stuff. It's about believe in the product 100%...I turned down 4 major drum companies before Pearl cause I WANTED Pearl. Does this say anything??

Who cares what these haters think. You're an amazing player and a great guy, im glad you're able to be endorsed by anyone! Keep up the great work! Peace.

I can understand that...I'm always torn between Dw and Pearl. Love them both.
I got to do a kit shootout at my local music store - Pearl Reference Pure, DW Collector's, and an equivalent Yamaha. The Reference Pure was so much better - better tone and more low end than the DW. Less attack, but definitely better tone. Not to say the DW was a bad kit, not at all, but I'll be ordering a Reference Pure in the next week, and I'm very much looking forwards to it. Best kit going right now to my ears.
Holy balls, my video is in the featured section of a George Kollias video! This reference kit sounds amazing. Nothing compares to the high end toms to those low end floors. It just sounds so.....pure.
DW isn't overrated. It's all the sound you want. I personally love the sound of DW's and can't wait till I can get one. But I also love Pearl, Mapex, Tama, as well as Sonor. Sonor is probably my second favorite company.
OMG!!!! Awesome kit, incredible play, excellent video and reference sound!!!!
The snare drum sounds amazing.
Sounds so amazing... Can't wait to get my Pure kit in June :)
What an amazing drummer George is...that Pearl kit sounds great and looks beautiful. Well-done!
Awesome, the Kit sounds amazing.
was the cameraman drunk? the footage is all over the place

Nice George !! Loving the grooves !! YouGroove Crew !!
This Kit sounds very good! i wonder how much that kit would cost me,hehe! rock on,George!
great sound!
awesome! he definitly deserves that drum set
Yiasou Giorgo, you're awesome.
Pearl Reference Pure= my dream kit
He is a master!
oh,now I understand why spiderman is related to George Kollias.They're both amazing and supernatural x)
Looks like an awesome room to have that kit set up in.
I have a pearl prestige studio set I bought in 1994 and they sound just as good these :)
I love my Pearl
I REALLY like that bass drum sound!
My dreamkit!
Gabriel, yeah, brings back some memories, but come on ! This is PEARL ! Wise choice, Mr. Kollias.
i think that George just makes them sound good.
And of course the Drumkit !! :)
3:42, did he just played Lombardo's part Angel of death with a single kick and floor?

Fil Solano Yes.....yes he did.
Yes. I already like Pearl. It's what my first drum kit is (old Export Pro I got second hand). I customized it (sorta) by adding stuff from friends (who gave up drums after a short period of time) and by getting stuff. I've played on TAMA, Yamaha, and I think a Mapex kit, but Pearl is my favorite. Nothing else beats it to me.
i gotta say for me i prefer playing on my dw kit since i use smaller kit set ups more often but after seeing george play live twice and all his fantastic work + overall sound id have to get me one of theese if i played a big kit set up for sure =)
It's nice to hear some different drumming styles from him.
Here's what I love about George. He's an extreme metal drummer and he starts a promotional video GROOVING THE F**K OUT!
Would love to see this unadulterated drum sound make it onto a record!
this video is a good example of how triggers are important for extreme drummers. you almost can't hear his drum kick and the fast parts are very confusing without them.
Can someone please tell me what the mini china he has near his splashes is?
awesome drums, did not think twice about selling my DW Collectors kit to purchase one, very happy with it.

Jeff Ballou I'm with you man. I have had a pearl reference for 6 years and I've never thought about another kit. The bass drum alone is worth it.... it just works for everything... live, recording. They nailed it.

DW's are so overpriced. Even though I'm a Tama guy, you made the right move.

I'd like to see scientific evidence before concluding that DW's gluing process deadens the sound of the drums. The hardware being made in Taiwan isn't really a secret, it literally says it right on there. The big selling point of the drums is that they're custom with a 2 month lead time and the shells are made in the USA. I'm not a DW fanboy, but they're not some sketchy company like your comment is making them out to be.
I now really know what the bass, snare and cymbals sound like, wonder what the toms sound like?
Maybe in my next life...
Or Kai Hahto. He has some videos of him playing Pearl Reference Pure in the studio aswell.
A drum set is only as good as its player and in this case it!
he is endorsed by axis so what do you think? besides i think if he liked the DD better he wouldn't still be with axis
that kit sounds so fuckin awesome!!!!
hey george!!!! you are my idol........... i wanna know what do you tink about the pearl demon driver? who you choise?..pearl demon or axis?
@charlesandhisworld was talking bout the looks of the batter heads
@allmetaliswelcome Well the bass drums aren't close miced, for one.
Pearl and Sabian the two greatest companies to play in the world.
Pearles YEAHHHH
all the sizes listed would be great!
sick i have a pearl reference snare, 600 bucks no big deal. then they come out with this... awesome. :(((
that sounds amazing and i have a mapex orion kit man. and that isnt even mic'd up
@drumsistkrieg1349 probably because of your sweet tagging skills!
I want a reference pure kit! Pearl is the best in drums.
where'd you place those 2 mics to get a sound like this?!? AMAZING!
are we gonna hear this awesome shit on the new album ?
Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
That being said, didn't you use to endorse DW drums? And if so, how did that turn out?
I bought a reference pure in natural. 9x10,9x12,14x14,16x16 and an 18x22. I absolutely love the drums. They are the perfect studio kit in my oppinion. Dont get me wrong, Yamaha Stage Customs and the Absolute kits are awesome for recording. But this pearl kit is rediculous
are those bassdrum heads coated or are those some VERY muffled kicks?
@Compendyum agreed x)
I really like the "dense" sound of Pearl shells. Sounds really fat! Like there's some kind of acoustic compression going on.
Great sounding drums. What mics were you using? They're incredibly good!
and then there are still people saying that bgeorge has no groove just cause he can play faster than anyone else... the first thung you played was damn awesome, you can blow minds with and without blast beats and double bass at 300bpm
Why use different bass drum pedal? Pearl said Demon drive is the best, is it?
@jonahmartinez6374
10 жыл бұрын
It's down to preference, really. The axis pedals can get to be too long for some. I think for fast stuff, axis pedals are great. Demon drives seem to have more dynamic capabilities for those who play without triggers like myself. Both are good for speed.
hey George we met us in Munich in the small town called Olching in 2013;) where u ve been on the loud & fast tour 2 - Can u remember which 2 mics you used to record the sound of this video?
Time for pearl to come up with a better mounting system
John Bonham and Buddy Rich. Extreme metal drummers : Gene Hoglan and Nick Barker. Those are guys you need to check out.
@burpeemetaldrumguy Isnt that a camera man standing up?
@UgE haha wow i was just expecting that youre the one whos gonna get it
@UgE me too!
GEORGE KOILLAS = SPEED GROOVE , FELING = O
kollias was playing with yamaha kits wasn't he??
Doesn't matter the name , pearl is probably the biggest drum company but even the masterworks are very mass produced compared to some old custom companies like Gabriel . Though both drum companies are awesome and to average ear the sound the same .
I must say. My Tama Hyperdrive gives this kit a run for its money and at 1/3 the price. You could never compare the hardware though. Pearl's hardware > all
Sweet sounding kit, but what the hell is smoking at 0:53?
George, can you arrange for pearl to deliver one of these kit to me in Dublin, i'll p.m you my address on facebook. Its the only way i'll be able to appreciate the sound of them.........worth a try lol. They sound great for sure. are you going to be using this kit on the next Nile tour or clinic? Mark
You know honesty this just doesn't sound as different as my standard Ref kit. I'll stay with my original Reference. :)
Yes I know it´s all about the product- seriously, no sarcasm or anything. But you can´t pace out you didn´t have to pay this kit:P PS.: do you remember Tyronne Silva from Sri Lanka? If his words are true we´ll meet in Knesebeck (Germany) this december at the Drum Thunder 3, since I´m a student of his. All the best, yo PPS.: you rule!!
@MickRdrummer change it to 1080 then
@UgE You're not just 'getting one', right? Otherwise, I guess being endorsed is one of the better things in life.
Having an endorsement doesn't mean you get free stuff... actually, that kind of endorsement is pretty rare. You get a huge discount, but not free stuff, or at least not all the time.
@k.bowers8372
5 жыл бұрын
Yes alot do get free stuff.
@TheSPIROS78 Gabriel.. ααα ναι. :D
In a nutshell!
no he's been with pearl since nile got big
@TheWitchOvAgnesi especially youtube.
I agree. DW drums sound a little too clean and lack character imho. If you like them, more power to you. But, I'd at least say overpriced if not overrated.
The kit sounds great, but taking into account the modern methods of recording drums, I ask myself a question : " Will any of this kit's great acoustic qualities make it to the album ?". There is a huge likelihood, that it will be sampled and not recorded with actual microphones.
@william10212 "LOL what the fuck am I doing?"
If not, I must be mistaken with something
:D
lol yea its a rare thing
