George recently played at London drum festival doing his usual blasting and insane footwork, one man asked him 'how can you consider anything you just played to be musical at all?' to which he replied 'what i play is musical, its just fast and loud which is what I and hundreds of people here enjoy listening and playing to' (massive cheer). never question god!!!

Kollias is a great drummer. Being a talented musician means more than being able to play non-stop ridiculous solos, it means being able to work collaboratively to create music. This is especially important for percussion. Percussion by it's very nature is not a tuned instrument. It is not intended to produce melody, it is intended to support the melody created by other instruments, provide a "back bone," and keep time. George Kollias is a great drummer because he understands this premise.

@hlslayer123 You use a computer sound for your bass drum instead of the regular sound. The way this works is that you put a special sensor pad onto your bass drum, which sends a signal to a drummodule when the bassdrum is struck. On the drummodule you can select the sound you wish to hear when you play the drum. This is connected to some sort of playback system, it can be a speaker or a headset for example. This makes it easier to hear every single stroke when playing fast, and is NOT cheating.

*gawp* It is really nice (and scary) to see a drummer blasting that fast with ONE FOOT instead of cheating with both pedals like so many out there do. Even Inferno from Behemoth does that, sad to say, much as I like his playing as well. George is a GOD, and one of the nicest, friendliest guys out there, as well as humble and down to earth about his abilities. More power to you, George! \m/

I've been into this type of music for a while now, but I always assumed it was aided (at least partially) by some type of programmed equipment. "Surely, no one can hit the bass that fast, with that much accuracy, for an extended period of time," I thought. Glad to know I was wrong.

@toddswingle32 it's called the swivel technique. swinging your heels sideways like that seems to make it so you are using slightly different muscles for each bass hit and as a result you can do it for longer periods. i'm not a doctor nor am I a good drummer so this might be a bad explaination, but it's a technique to go faster and/or longer.

This beats all that chavy "Drum and bass" shit. This is what real drumming is about. I know most drummers use the same kind of software to help write drum beats but at least they can actually play it for real unlike those who just sell the computerised beats repeated like 5000 in every song on the album. Real drumming like this is stuff that never gets old because it doesn't repeat itself over and over again. Thats why I love Metal :)

@MJCG1088 That's what my engineer calls "the blastbeat effect". Alternating blastbeats sound like that because your ear wants to focus in on the snare drum and your ear wants to think they're the downbeats. But they aren't.Tthe snares are the upbeats. So it ends up sounding off.
