George Hotz Presents Comma Neo for Udacity Students
George Hotz presents Comma.ai's new technology at a kickoff event for Udacity's Self-Driving Car Engineer Nanodegree students.
This Nanodegree program is designed to help those with an intermediate and advanced programming and math background enter the self-driving car industry by teaching topics like computer vision, sensor fusion, localization, and more skills needed for this career. GeoHot's simplicity in grasping and explaining concept is really impressive. Working with him must be a constant journey in learning. That must be amazing.
GeoHot's presentation is very entertaining and informative.

When some people explain things, it seems complicated. He makes me feel like I could be a software engineer in a week.
: "He'moves around quite a bit when he talks..." : "Shut up, he's geohot he can do whatever he wants."
awesome presentation and energy
Damn this is great rundown of everything
Love from Africa
Besides software genius, this guy si superb in mathematics and statics, I'm sure with that
first time hearing geohot speak. this is brilliant
#FeelingsMatterBro
Anyone interested in source code: github.com/commaai Geohots github: github.com/geohot Thanks geohot. :)
18:50 the laugh is warranted. I know this first hand, all about patent protection and rent seeking practices.
Did he just say the battery got died?
14:10 ... I did my people algorithm and noticed two NSA hits.
Its not full auto pilot
radar?
Tesla should work with this guy & work on more Open source Auto Pilot. Better creative minds yields better results.

elon already offered a 1M dollar contract. George declined

MCSGproject no, Tesla offered a option to buy, which is not a contract.

An option to buy is a contract, just not one that George Hotz was willing to accept. I can understand Elon's side though. His own people were surely telling him that his programmers plus Nvida had as much or more AI expertise as George Hotz, so why did they need George's help? They could replace Mobileye in the same amount of time as George, which they did.
Well, its not really a Open Source project when you don't open the trained model which is the most important part and release it just as blob.

Sorry, but is this not what he released on his github? It says the hardware needed, (current) supported vehicles (with ability to add Car Support) and gives the code for: board -- Code that runs on the USB interface board cereal -- The messaging spec used for all logs on the phone common -- Library like functionality we've developed here dbcs -- Files showing how to interpret data from cars phonelibs -- Libraries used on the phone selfdrive -- Code needed to drive the car Link: github.com/commaai/

BaSs Visiond is the core functionality and is just shipped as binary, that was my point. The selfdriving part of the project is hence not open source. Its just a neat trick to bypass regulations and clearly not intended to be truly open source, its more like freeware.

The code in the blob isn't all that valuable. It quickly becomes obsolete and has to be replaced with each new software download from the cloud. The real AI work, and thus the real value, is in the software and procedures that are used to edit the training data to select, duplicate and modify the most "teachable" sequences, present it repeatedly to the neural network, determine the errors and adjust the coefficients using the error determinations.
He trashed other automakers except Tesla. I hope there wasn't anybody from Mercedes there.

The head of the Mercedes autonomous group was in the room, lol
First time I've ever seen a CEO carry a backpack. Even before that I didn't think he inspired a lot of confidence in the safety of his product. He displays an unusual amount of audacity where caution and concern for safety would be more reassuring. I've never been clear on why he thinks his product is (potentially) better than Tesla/Nvida. Clearly Tesla has advantages that he is lacking: a car company to deploy his solution in, control over the sensors and computing power to be deployed, vehicles in constant communication with the cloud for data upload and software download, a larger fleet of vehicles running the data collection software, a sophisticated army of software engineers, teamwork with AI and graphics industry leader Nvida.
"Meeting the automotive standard only applies if you are trying to sell a product, not if you are open sourcing something" Come on man. People can die in this. Are you interested in just publicity and doing presentations in a t-shirt and stylish jeans, are do you really want to solve the problem and help people, not hurt them. Gotta be done right.

It's not like the driver doesn't have control over the car. Responsibility when driving is always up to the driver, lol.

Is it me but his pacing if I was in the room would cause me not to even understand what he's saying because of his ADHD
hes product doesn't really work that's is obvious .i find actually bs what he says
Hey, look it's GeoHot
