Geometry Hidden in Plain Sight | Lisa DeLong | TEDxBYU

Geometry is all around us. Dr. DeLong reveals complex and beautiful patterns that can be discovered through following simple principles. By engaging with these principles we discover beauty, make meaningful connections, and nurture creativity.
Lisa DeLong is a London-based artist and educator fascinated by the intersection of geometry with art and nature. She works at the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts to develop interdisciplinary art programmes and teaching resources for young people, artists, and teachers in many places around the world including China, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Ecuador, Egypt, Malaysia, and Azerbaijan.
Dr Lisa DeLong is an artist and educator who currently works for The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts in London. As International Outreach Programme Manager she designs curricula and conducts art educational programs, teacher training, and product development workshops for a wide variety of audiences throughout the world. She also teaches courses in the art of geometry, symbolism, and traditional design in many parts of the world including Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Syria, Egypt, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, and China.
Lisa received her PhD in Traditional Art from The Prince’s School, where she studied the principles of geometric design common to Islamic and Western traditions. Lisa exhibits her paintings internationally and her paintings are in several important collections, including that of HRH The Prince of Wales. Lisa's first book Curves: Flowers, Foliates, and Flourishes in the Formal Decorative Arts was published by Wooden Books in 2013.

When I was a kid, I hated math. I think if math is presented this way to right brained (the arty brain side) kids, it would spark the interest so vital to learning. This is a great way to relate math to people that are right-hemisphere dominant, and then create a balance, a true centering, and even lead to an improved attitude as well. Bravo Dr.!!

Maybe i'm reading this wrong, but I love that this symbol is consistent with all cultures, beliefs and religions from all over the world. Everyone has their own artistic expression. I don't believe in a God, but I do find small consistencies like this in the world of cultures/faith quite beautiful.

Dr Delong continues to inspire and guide people around the world through her ability to make the unseen visible through geometry. I always amazed at her skills in creating her own paint from natural pigments and her dynamic pattern constructions, making her one of America's great visual artists. She is truly a gifted person and inspirational person who is dedicated to the sacred geometry experience! Honored to be her student!

Using a simple form of geometry, which involves motion vectors and length scalars that are stacked on top of each other, one can derive all of Einstein's Special Relativity mathematical equations, along with the Lorentz Transformation equations. Why they don't use this method in schools is beyond me, since it also makes it incredibly easy to fully understand SR.

I fully agree that this knowledge should be taught in the primary school curriculum. It’s not at all difficult to absorb, and when applied to examples in the natural world, only order is realized, not chaos. How welcome that is, given our current stat of global affairs. Keith Critchlow is a truly gifted teacher and metaphysician. This remarkable place of learning is fortunate to have oe or his gifted students o board.

what happens if i can make same images with numbered with proper calculations on squared paper i assigned the numbers DNA sequences and colour to the squares to reveal the patterns just because I read the Kabbalah and it made sense so I could understand the numbered order. I've been writing numbered squares with the geometric patterns using mathematics for quite awhile and I hated maths before I started doing this when I wrote a stream of DNA out from one of these images I got an individual petal outside of the understand of replicating the image.
