Geomagnetic storms and solar flares, explained | JUST THE FAQS

Ғылым және технология

From auroras to blackouts, here’s how geomagnetic storms and solar flares impact us here on Earth.
RELATED: The threat of nuclear weapons, explained bit.ly/3zav3kH
The colorful aurora forms when particles flowing from the sun get caught up in Earth's magnetic field. The particles interact with molecules of atmospheric gases to cause the famed glowing red and green colors of the aurora.
Geomagnetic storms can affect the Earth's infrastructure, possibly disrupting communications, power grids, navigation, radio and satellite operations, NOAA says. Disruptions to technology from a G3 storm generally remain small, but the storm can drive the aurora farther south from its usual position over the polar region, NOAA said.

We would mainly need to be concerned about the power plants themselves being affected by the storms.

They’re not subterranean or sub oceanic because it severely impedes the electromagnetic field of those lines, thus impeding or nullifying them. I saw a video about exactly that, though I think it mainly focused on underwater. They are raised above ground for a very good scientific reason

The dokie about to splatter the fan when the solar flares knock out the power ! Going to be tough going into the polar shift with power and no way of getting information out to us !! Pray up and put on the armor of God !!!

So if you were confused from my understanding a geomagnetic storm is when a solar flare hits the earth (which is blocked by our atmosphere) it messes with and shuts down a lot of technology BUT DOES NOT POSE ANY THREAT TO THE EARTH.

One day another Carrington event will occur, it's an inevitability. The US grid and many around the world would not be able to handle that type of event and would take many years to get up and running to the same capacity. Faraday cage what you can and learn how to live without power for the rest.

Yes, on the basis of not the 11.8 year cycle, but the multiple cycles with a grand solar minimum. Which, they conveniently deleted on the full statement I made before. This a kindergarten lesson. Not the historic factual instance of which we are going through. USA Today is just like the name, a propaganda rag.

Strong sun activities are one causes of geomagnetic storm, and the loss of protection by the earth atmosphere can be another. Human depleted greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, which may cause geomagnetic disruption in the life of human beings.

Little do you understand about governments and the controls they have over both earth and solar weather. I'll give you a clue. The first patent connected with WM was filed in 1891. Yes, 1891. Now stop and think deeply about the technical progress that has happened in that time........ All the US Presidential class war ships have nuclear power DEW's fitted - also the latest USAF planes have them too. Any of these can create or modify weather. That's one reason why there's so much talk about the Three Gorges Dams in Chinah. The threat from the US is immense. Of course it works the other way too.
