Since I'm Spanish, I need to add something: CHURROS are NOT a DESSERT. They are a BREAKFAST (or a "merienda"), but you won't eat it after lunch XD Sorry, but there are a lot of people confused when they come jajajaja.

Hello I'm from Canary Islands. And yeah, it's quite much populated. More than 2 million people, not counting the "floating population", tourism, which for example in 2018 was 14 million visitors. I live in Tenerife capital city, 200.000 residents. It's not as big as Gran Canaria capital city. But it's nice to live here, I like to see people, but not to feel crowded. Canary islands in general have a subtropical climate, although each island has pretty much its own climate. Western islands tend to be greener, with forests, while eastern ones are more like deserts with some dunes. Many people in Spain say that we have a permanent spring-summer, not hot and not cold, just the perfect amount of each. That video you're commenting is very funny and accurate, I love it. It's true about bars and beer, but interestingly though, we have less drunk people than northern european countries. We go to the bar not to get drunk, but to socialize in family or with friends, eat something light (tapa) while drinking. And also to have coffee, we drink a lot from espresso machines. I can't live without a coffee with milk every day, relaxing in the bar taking a small sun bath. Recharge batteries as we say.

Why are the Spanish and the Italians like first cousins? We have many centuries of history in common, so much so that the south of Italy, Naples and Sicily were Spanish territory from 1442 to 1734, that is to say 3 centuries. Milano was also Spanish for more than 100 years. From Milano it left on the SPANISH WAY, which crossed the Alps and reached what is now Holland and Belgium, which was where the War of Flanders was being fought. It was the route used by the Spanish armies to avoid crossing France, an enemy of Spain in those years. Even when the Spaniards got angry, they were a formidable enemy, in fact THE TERCIOS, a military organization, dominated the battlefields around the world, becoming considered the best infantry for more than 2 and a half centuries. An example of this was the LACK OF ROME by the Duke of Alba, when Pope Clement VII sided with the French against Spain, and did not want to pay the Spanish duke for his help in the wars, it was not a good idea in those days. times to make the Spanish soldiers angry. He has been the only army that has sacked the holy city If it were not for that Spanish influence in Italy, the world would not have one of its most famous foods, LA PIZZA, for example, since it was the Spaniards who introduced the tomato to Europe.

Canary Islands is a little bit like Hawaii to the States - It's far from the mainland, the weather is great, food is different, people are different, flora and fauna is quite different (and some species are unique in the world). There are good waves (not as great as some Hawaiian spots like Waimea or North Shore) and good surfers, and then some. One of the great things of Spain is you can be at a desert and later in a forest in less than 5 hours drive, cold weather from hot weather in less than 8 hours, 4 different languages, yellow sand beaches, black sand beaches, red sand beaches... And certainly northern Spaniards are different from the rest, mostly southern and eastern parts of mainland Spain. It is a continent in miniature. And a good portion of the world's population speaks Spanish. Spain has some of the best chefs in the world (and one of the best cuisines) like Ferran Adrià, some of the best athletes (Gasol bros., Rafa Nadal, Fernando Alonso)... They didn't mention Julio Iglesias and Rafael (2 of the most known Spanish-speaking crooners in the world), Luis Buñuel, Luis Berlanga and Pedro Almodóvar are some of the most important filmmakers in history, a huge amount of pivotal painters and architects... But also a fair share of corruption and other issues. Spain is great but also a complex country.

My city (Ceuta, one of the two little autonomic cities in north Africa) is known for having 4 different cultures living together. Parts like Andalucia have a long history of gypsy and arabic culture, other parts like Galicia have celtic roots that are still very present in society. We do not consider it Colonies. We see them as transoceanics spanish Kingdoms, under the same king. The spanish troops who conquers the american world where 5.000 to 10.000 dudes, (yes with armours, horses, and shot weapons, that the tribes never had seen, but you need over 30Seconds to charge an old firegun, and in front of you there are 200.000 angry indians warrior, who also shoot their bows). The spanish conquers America with the help of the OTHERS indian tribes. People who do not like the Mexicas (aztecs, mayas) or the incas, so they help as alias. The model of conquer was the ancient greek as Alejandro Magno. Go to the tribes, search for allas and marry the daughters of the allias or conquered chiefs mixing the cultures. A heritager of Montezuma was who created the Guardia Civil (military-police- corp) in Spain. Senators of tribes work in the spanish court in europe. Our first blackman goes to the universiti in the 1570ties. The indians go to the Universities of Spain in America, as normal spanish citizens. Isabel I the catolic, aproves laws of equality of spanish citizens. And yes they where abuse, there have been torture and kills. In those days one ot the goals was to integrate new Cristians to the catolic Church. So they monks, priest, use spanish to learn the anciant indian languages in order to convert them all into cristians. 80% (for real about 70%) of the wealth of American where reinvested in the country. It makes more sense to cultivate new land in America then get in twist and trouble to cultivate things in Europe.
