Actually the African country episodes are my favourites since we sadly never really covered Africa in Geography class back in school, it was mostly Europe, North America and Asia. Through Geography studies at University I have a pretty good handle on South America. I'm a teacher by the way and really appreciate these videos. =D

Fun, just take a look: African Country's Names in english - Name in Portuguese -what the name means in english Cameroon -Camarões - shrimp Gabon - Gabão - cloak Sierra Leone (actually resembles spanish) -Serra Leoa - Lioness Mountains Cape Verde - Cabo verde Ivory Coast - Costa do Marfim Gambia - Gâmbia - from the portuguese "Câmbio" meaning "trade" Contless Guineas - guinea kinda means rich place, or place of the blacks Madagascar - from "Madeigascar"; Marco Polo's name from his book given to the island in 1502 by the Portuguese I'm sure there's more, but I think it's enough to help get you an idea of how many contries have their name from the Portuguse langage and don't even realize it.

Actually, African countries are the number 1 reason I started watching your channel; I already know a fair amount about the well known countries. I'm still looking for a good source on the exact history that lead to the borders of each modern African country to develop. I know most of it comes from colonial boundaries, but the decisions that lead to those largely arbitrary borders is still mysterious to me. I have started to learn that they aren't all as arbitrary as I thought though, partially thanks to your channel.
