Geoff didn't just step out of the box with this one, he destroyed the box! I love his interpretation of this song. I wouldn't have thought a soulful, jazzy remix would work with it, but once again Geoff showed us just how good he is. I truly believe there isn't a genre he can't do, or an original song he can't do better. If you want more of his rock voice try Queen in 5 Minutes. He's always been so self deprecating when talking about his work, but he's really starting to put himself out there. It's amazing he not only does all the videos with just Kathy, but that he's doing it without a record label. I feel he's just getting started.

I will confess that I've watched many people now react to this one, and every single time it gets to me.Tears. Every time. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. He wanted to sing rock in his early years but gave it up when his voice deepened. However he does a massive slide from a high to low in Queen in 5 Minutes.

I was going to mention the Queen medley-you get a glimpse of what he could do with rock if he wanted to. I’d love to see more of that.

@@lkayh It's not just the rock slide in Queen ... it's the head-tilted-back evil laugh he does after he hits the basement note. So fun!

His low growls and his higher grit... OMG just CHILLS!! I love his voice SO much. He really brought this one home, IMO. His acting is just as good as his singing, and this piece is emotionally charged as a result. I love what he did with it.

I forget where I heard him saying it, but apparently when he was younger Geoff really wanted to be a rock tenor, and tried his best to emulate Chris Cornell from Soundgarden. Sometimes, when he does some kind of rock belt (Queen in 5 Minutes, or when he sang Poor Unfortunate Souls in the Little Mermaid Medley) you can hear hints of Cornell in his voice.

I remember him stating that also. I think it might’ve been in one of his tutorials on how to sing low. He was pointing out how how ironic it is that he is known for his low deep deep base when he really wanted to be a rock tenor. But he has to leave that up to Eli.

I love Geoffs rendition of High and Dry for its emotional quality but he really outdid himself with this one, vocally and visually. Geoff is the equivalent of an Olympian high jumper the way he keeps raising the bar! 🏅🙂👍

Thanx for reacting to this one, it is now my favorite. Of course, every one of his new covers becomes my favorite - until the next one. This one, though, shows us that he is also an actor. Obviously, he's a great vocalist, arranger, producer, editor, etc. But this one adds acting to the mix. I am heartbroken watching him, he needs a hug and I'm not there to give it to him. Love your reactions Chris!

Since the Sing-Off where introduced to VoicePlay, I've watched a lot of videos. Between Home Free & this group, I find myself going between. When Geoff started doing solo work, I hesitated as I did w/ Avi, Austin & Tim. Then started watching their individual works. Like anyone I have favorite pieces. This one is right now my favorite of all Geoff's work. I do enjoy his other pieces, this somehow hits me. Enjoy.

Every time I watch this I get goosebumps. It is so good. The part where he sings really really low has a whole new tonal quality to it. I do know that this is not something you want to listen to when you’re not feeling real happy. It is distressingly sad and the acting is phenomenal.

I think why this affects me is I remember the times heard the original. As wrote in other comments, my grandmother would clean the house thoroughly & being a child wasn't allowed out of the 'parlor' where the radio was or outside w/ my grandfather as he washed or worked on the car hear it on the outside radio in the garage. Used to be songs played for months. So heard it over & over again. When inside it's be streaming bright sunlight through the windows & be sitting in my favorite chair daydream hearing it. The video? Bright sunlight streaming through the windows & him sitting in a chair. It set the mood but brought me 'happily' back to my childhood. That & 'Sunny' harp back to those days. I recall Brooke Denton & Solomon Burke. I remembered country singers were more embraced; Don Williams*, Jim Reeves, Charley Pride, Waylon Jennings, Randy Travis, Josh Turner, Trace Adkins, Johnny Cash & Conway Twitter, Toby Keith, & Alan Jackson. Seeing Geoff, Tim & Avi open up more avenues for variety of singers is enjoyable. I wish him & others coming down the line success.

I think his years of experience with singing acapella has a lot to do with him being able to sing a straight tone without vibrato. Vibrato would interfere with the tight harmonies. It’s also probably why he can sing the beautiful harmonies with himself in his videos. (A LOT of reactors that are singers say they have tried without success to do their own backup. )

Yes, he did. But his voice kept getting deeper, and there are fewer basses than tenors, so he decided to play to his strengths. Still lets out that side now and then, like he did here, or in Hoist the Colors, Queen in Five Minutes, and the Little Mermaid Medley.
