Genuine Review: Ryobi 40V Kinetic Log Splitter

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Can it take on a full day of splitting RED OAK? Ryobi's new 40V Kinetic Log Splitter in the hands of a regular home owner. Non-sponsored, independent review. Trying to give a heads up to those considering this machine. Let's get splittin'!
(This is not an instructional video! Only you know your limits and abilities with power tools - I don't and am not qualified to recommend you do anything portrayed in this video. Always read the manuals for your tools and follow safety instructions.)
*Addressing Oak Wilt*
I wanted to clarify that the Northern Pin Oak that died from Oak Wilt featured in this video had been standing dead for over three years and will not be transported anywhere for another couple years, if at all. Any property owner with trees subjected to this terrible disease is ultra sensitive about its spread and I have no intent to spread it further. While the wood was wet as I said in the video, it is not green by any means and I am taking the precautions recommended by the Minnesota DNR and our county's natural resource conservation district to quell the spread of the fungus as best I can. A district representative has been out a couple times to educate myself and neighbors about how to slow the spread of Oak Wilt and I will continue to be vigilant against it.
*Linden Logs Channel*
I posted this video as practice for the primary reason we created this channel - to document for family, friends, and ourselves our experience refurbishing our family cabin. There may be an occasional review from time to time if I come across something spectacular like this log splitter, but that is not the focus of the channel.
This video is rudimentary (and loooooong) to say the least, but as my father-in-law has coined: "Practice makes better!"
Thanks for watching. More to come.

Thanks for the first real world review (that I have seen)! Your straight grained Oak was not the most challenging test, but so quiet and capable...

I bought this Ryobi Splitter last fall. It did a good job for us. I put it on my 16' trailer and the height was just right...much easier on my back. Enjoyed your video. 5 year warranty!

Does this work while plugged in? I realize it is battery powered, just wondering if I can run it off a plug. I wont find myself needing a battery really ever, where I am, and would prefer not to have to find a place to charge it.

I never have problems with carburetors on small engines because of fuel. The problem arises when people use such machines once a year and then simply leave them behind. I regularly turn on my small engines once a month to run for 10-15 minutes and that's it. I never put any additives in the fuel.

I suspect most people don't have the time or the desire to run half a dozen (or more) small engines monthly. Sta-bil has been pretty good for me. A bottle a year takes care of everything I own. In the seven years I have used my machines I have only had one rebuild, and I suspect that was my fault because the tank was only like 1/4 full at the beginning of the season. If I ran all of those for 15 minutes monthly while not in normal use, I'd effectively be spending a few hours a month on maintenance tasks anyway. I don't have this unit, but I am thinking about it. One fewer small engine to maintain. I just wish it didn't rely on batteries and I could plug it in directly.

@@belavet I think that these are just excuses and justifications for not having time to turn on those little machines once every month or two. There is time for sitting for a few hours a day in front of a computer or laptop or mobile phone and looking uselessly on social networks or playing games.

What the heck happened to your helper! If he had actually helped, you could have been really zipping through those logs, but like you said, you are the hold up! Now, since that machine is battery operated, using it at the speed you did, how long did the battery last?

That’s for sure! I went through one 6AH and about half of a 4AH. I’m not sure how long the machine was running, but it split the amount of wood shown in the video. Not bad on battery life in my opinion.
