I dont know if this makes a difference to anyone, but adding a recoil lug to the replica Hydra is super easy by drilling and tapping for a squared off bolt-head. Also, the screws are easily available in better material. As far as I can tell, the offshore version is 700 series aluminum milled on a CNC and the GBRS version is 600 grade.

I thought the top one was the real one, lmao.

The replica name for this is called holy warrior ，and the price to buy the mount in China is 198¥ so roughly around 35$❤

The screws snapped in half on every unity knockoff I bought, I only torqued them down to about 30 inch lbs.

Who makes the replica? I'd like to get one

Unfortunately the replica has a significant and major flaw that will keep me from actually using it on a rifle. (Although i did purchase one just to experiment with the ridiculous height over bore and “study” the implications of such height) The replica is missing the recoil boss for the T1/T2. This puts all the stress on the insanely tiny Aimpoint screws.

I’m not sure which one you got but I bought a replica and it is A mirror image of the real one recoil lugs at all it has a matte finish and I have done numerous tests with this mount and the replica unity mounts summer spot on some aren’t I dropped cement blocks on the replicas with cheap optic and it made me a believer the hydra amount as well as unity mount our way over priced for what you get some of these replicas perform like the real thing there are several manufacturers doing the replicas and you have to get a few to get the right one. I will never pay for these overprice mounts again. Great video thank you

There is a second version of the Hydra Mount with a section of Pic rail, to give the same optic centerline.

Airsoft one doesn’t have the rail boss for the aimpoint t2

Question is would you use it

based on my studies(Mechanical Engineering) and experience, i beleive the replica is a cnc machined. While the original is hot forged. What it means is that the hot forged (original) has an increase in yield strength and ductility. The appearance of the original seems like casted, as the hot forging gives the look of a casted product.

It's highway robbery how much they're selling the genuine one for. It isn't even 7075. It's STUPID to pay that much for a soft aluminum mount. Decade as a machinist, and I promise you they aren't costing any more than $50 for them to produce 1. And if it is, they're horrible at running a machine shop and need to give the job to someone who understands. That shouldn't cost anymore than $175, and that's being VERY generous to make sure the employees still get paid good.

Just curious, what makes you thing the original mount will hold zero like it should? Unlike red dots and holo, the replica definitely won’t hold zero on a real steel. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the replica is better than the original one but I do smelting aluminium for a living, as long as they have the same alloy grade and hardness level (T5 or T6) they are basically the same thing.

@Desmond Low I’ve used both. I have about 1000 rounds on the replica and probably 600-700 on my buddy’s original. Both have held zero so far (I know it’s not that many rounds yet though). I did use locktite on each but the original gbrs hydra, two of the screws backed out of. Idk if that speaks for the mount itself but was most likely just user error. But either way if anyone wants one of these, the replica is nothing less (so far) from the original except for the DRAMATIC price difference

In all honesty, the common people aren't who companies like GBRS really have their eyes set on. It's an option to buy from them, but you aren't their priority. Very few actually do aim for the civilian market or make products dedicated to civilians.

Let's not even talk about the amount of Cheap Chinese stuff the flood the civilian market targeting new users. The issue is a lot of it can just be flat out junk for way too much money. Not to mention how the offshore cloning entities have made some companies that charge tons of money for items that should be probably be a lot less in cost. What they seem to be able to do is make a copy and charge let's say 15-20 times less for it. Yes you are correct in that what does that say about our military spending? as a nation we are being overcharge for military goods and equipment.
