The good news is that, overall, the world is and has been constantly improving. For example poverty in the world has been cut in half since year 2000. Rich and good people are constantly doing something to improve the world. And yes, there is much more to do and is being done. But what should we and they do in the mean time? Should we all stop living, be unhappy and miserable because there are "food and power shortages" somewhere else? How will that help them or us? Sartorial life is what they are passionate about, just like someone else is passionate about video games, movies, or playing football. Should Lionel Messi and Ronaldo stop playing fotball and sit at home and cry about food and power shortages instead? If you plan to not be passionate about things until all world's major problems are resolved, you are going to die a very unhappy man.

What's perverse is how other people treat others badly in the world, like is theft of labour by poor wages for work done etc. Slave labour sweat shops and so on.

This is just wonderful. I feel like I'm watching a really immersive movie set in London with genuinely interesting characters, except there's no plot... everyone's just having a nice time.

I have Floris No. 89 and can attest that the scent profile seems very prototypically mid-century English Gentleman's Cologne. I have a lot of Floris fragrances: No. 89, Elite (my favorite), Honey Oud, Leather Oud, 1962, Neroli Voyage, Santal. Understated English elegance.

I remember travelling to Spain back in the late nineties and meeting some proper well-mannered British ladies and gentlemen. Now I come back to those places and don't see anyone quite like that... At first I though - maybe I don't go to the same kind of places I used to go... Where are these people? And a terrible thought struck me - these people are too old to travel or no longer alive. That's insightful, actually. American gangsters wished to appear as well-to-do business men dressed in the style of London Bankers, until the point when they completely co-opted the look.

I saw this video earlier this week just in time for my trip to London. I just left Truefitt & Hill for a proper shave (also with Jason!). It was a great experience and will be on my list of things to do every time I come back to London. Thanks, Kirby!

I'm a 71 year old retired Barber and it's good to see another one who still knows how to shave a client using a straight razor. I shaved many a fellow in my day. Keep it sharp and you'll not cut anyone. Only when it's dull does that become a danger. I always shaved myself using one as well.

Always dress appropriately...but better. That way you get noticed without standing outside of what is correct for your role. People make a judgement about you within moments for first meeting you. Getting that head start can make all the difference (just make sure you can back it up 😁).

Dressing yourself in the factory setting is never an overkill. Japanese will always have a locker and perhaps a shower in the factory office so they can change to dress up nicely after the shift. They won't use the same shirt in the factory floor with their commuting shirt and suit. Not just factory workers but also government employees even soldiers in the JSDF and police. You can meet a nicely dress gentlemen in Izakaya even though they're just clocking off their job on the factory floor or manning the security guard tower in an airbase or a firefighter.

If you have a love and affinity for traditionally made mens clothing, you’d love New York as well.

I so much want to visit London. The amount of old-school services and (the good kind) etiquette. Love it. I've had wet shaves in the past and they are sublime. Not something I would do regularly. But certainly as a treat. It also seems that London has so many 'Men's Only' or "Primarily Men" places as well. Some place, especially the elegant ones, where men can just hang out and be themselves. The New York Athletic Club is along those lines and I LOVE visiting when I get the opportunity. Love your shows!

Ha! That applies to every major city around the world. They all have nice/historic areas that get overused as filming locations (think Latin Quarter in Paris, City of Westminster in London, Manhattan in NY) but everywhere else in the city is very different to what you see in popular culture.

What a joy, since watching this I have tried to become a gentlemen by following your recommendations. I always find myself coming back to this one to remind me why I started. I hope we get another video like this one soon!

A sheer joy to watch and listen too, all charachters were very interesting and informative and i'm rapidly becoming a fan of this channel.

All of this is just fascinating. Loved every section but particularly liked the Floris Perfumery. What a rich tradition and history !!

Yes, if you're looking for the classic "British Gent" experience these days, you're not going to find it in Greater London I'm afraid. If you want that you are much better off visiting Winchester, Bath, Chichester etc

A wonderful video, with amazing people. Edward never fails to impress, and his explanations of perfume just cannot be faulted. An excellent insight too, to the world of a Truefitt and Hill shave.

I am very new to this channel and it is fascinating. The entire concept of quality in goods is something I am attracted to. A good quality pair of shoes or a suit etc. but also the quality of one’s personal life experience. I enjoy handmade items also. This is just great. Keep it going!

It was great to be back!

I just watched the full 1 hr., 2 minutes, and 7 seconds of this London day-walkthrough of yours, Mr. Allison, and I was thoroughly engaged by the cinematography and details of everything that you did with your friend. That was a phenomenal experience for me as a viewer and subscriber of yours and as an enthusiast of all things with class. Men all over the world should see the elegance and culture of what it means to be a gentleman in our day and age today. Everything about it just exudes refinement and discipline. This video of yours is a prime example of how gentlemen should be presenting themselves. I liked the video; excellent presentation! Kudos to your fellow gents for their participation, too!

@Alan Bellew I don't know if I'd go that far, but I'm kinda still figuring him out. Is this just an austentatious channel? Spending crazy amounts on bespoke shoes and suits the likes of most can't afford? Or does he genuinely love London and the traditions found here? I think he does genuinely love tradition and London but in a way one of our Royal members would. Automatically it makes you wonder though. I guess if you have the money, and the free choice, then why not have access to such refined products. I'm working class and almost certain I wouldn't like a taffy nosed pillock quofting about yet I'm intrigued to watch the videos he puts out. Well, most of them. I live the Sahakians! Especially Eddie. Cool, slick, knowledgeable and his voice is very pleasant in the ear. I couldn't afford to blow hundreds of pounds on a cigar tho! Even if I won the lottery there'd be parts of life that wouldn't appeal to me. So I'm not sure whether I watch this stuff to see how the other half live, or the old fashioned content and tradition that Kirby likes.

Selecting Kirby's shoes in the shoebox looked like the selection of Harry Potter's wand. Great video, I learned a lot.

He’s waving that coffee cup around has me on pins and needles splashing coffee on Kirby’s suit!

I really enjoyed the video and a few others I have watched. Whilst this day out may seem a little grand and perhaps Kirby does look very retro formal - I think he is passionate about heritage , craftsmanship, and the great history of London and he’s travelled a long way. It’s also his buisness and he is promoting something that needs preserving and to be fair is absolutely outstanding. I may not do all those things in one day , not BR able to afford to do them all in one day but I will do them all several times in my life time.

Kirby very modestly sidestepped the compliment regarding his support of the various businesses, that's a big point scorer

Thank you so much for posting this. I have enjoyed this video immensely. It's just so exquisite watching an American person casually talking with real English gents. Their accent is just amazing. Of course, they way they carried themselves is just very cool.

Is it just me or does this guy look like a kid who is wearing his dads suit when he's walking down the street. He just looks so funny to me, and he walks so weird.

Diaper as old mate. Watching from kiwi land raised as a thrifty, diligent, grafting farmer. I appreciate witnessing your approach to life and your willingness to share it.

Great videos Kirby. I worked in the City for 25 years, always wearing the standard attire. I must admit to having descended into slobbishness of late, but your videos inspire to get dressed up again. You are a link to a World almost lost to us now. More please!

I crack up every time Kirby comments on it being a “proper British morning” and it never seems to get a response.

@@jeffwolinski2659 I’m in Los Angeles. It’s 80 degrees and sunny 9 days out of 10. If someone came up to me and said “Ah, proper day in LA”. I wouldn’t know what to say.

I live in a rainy area and you'd get the same response here, maybe a slight eye roll. Despite the fact that we have 3 months of drought in the summer people still think it rains constantly here.

Kirby, another excellent video from you. How I have missed the good things in life lost to COVID. We have to catch up on lost time and all the civility missing from being cooped up at home.

"Abercrombie and Fitch on the corner is closed.....which is probably a nice thing". ROFL.

I think that the charme of this video is to watch somebody taking care of himself. It doesn't matter if you are rich or poor. The elegance and the dignity of little gestures made slowly with high quality means you want to pay attention and focus on doing things well. And for me that is what it counts.

I am happy to watch this video that illustrates gentleman in London.😊 I never visit London though, I can understand how a gentleman live.
