Er ist ohne Frage das Gesicht der deutschen Reggae-Szene: Tilmann Otto alias Gentleman. Mit seiner unvergleichlichen Reibeisenstimme und einem ausgeprägtem Gespür für eingängige Melodien feiert der Kölner Musiker weltweit Erfolge. Kein Wunder, denn er bringt eine gehörige Portion Herzblut mit: Die Liebe zu seiner zweiten Heimat Jamaika offenbart sich in jedem seiner Songs.
Gentleman war Ende der 90er einer der ersten, die Reggae und Dancehall in Deutschland populär machten - und wahrscheinlich der Einzige, der damit gleichzeitig über die europäischen Grenzen hinaus Erfolg hatte. Zunächst als DJ aktiv, wandte er sich recht früh dem Roots-Reggae zu, dem er sich seitdem verschrieben hat.
Er nimmt Songs mit den Größen der internationalen Reggae-Szene auf und spielt in Europa und auf Jamaika vor Zehntausenden. Im August 2014 durfte er als erster Reggae-Musiker im Rahmen der legendären Konzertreihe MTV Unplugged ein exklusives Akustik-Album aufnehmen. Im selben Jahr erschien der Kino-Dokumentarfilm "Journey to Jah" von Moritz Springer und Noel Dernescheine, die Gentleman und seinen Kollegen Alborosie sieben Jahre lang begleitet haben. In dem Film stellen die beiden Musiker ihre Sicht auf ihre große Liebe Jamaika, seine Spiritualität und seine gesellschaftliche Zerrissenheit vor.
Gentleman lebt heute mit seiner Frau, der US-amerikanischen Sängerin Tamika, und ihren gemeinsamen Kindern in Köln. Der Fußballfan ist Mitglied des 1. FC Köln und unterstützt die gemeinnützigen Vereine "Viva con Agua" und "Gemeinsam für Afrika".

Gentleman is born and raised German but again respected in Jamaica because of his outstanding musical intelligence. He is a Kôlner, Rodenkirschner to be precise where he comes from. But again he is the kind of guy who hates borders. ❤❤❤❤
