Surely it will be explained later in the story. Mihoyo is a multi million game devoping company, they've handled Honkai's story well so how the heck can they mess up Genshin's? This is at best just a teaser at what's to come, we will probably look back at this a few years later and say "oh wow, forgot about this", like you'd not even remember this happened, so chill this really isn't a big deal as people make it to be.

Hoyoverse finally decided to bring some lore in all-accessible way. I guess they realized that putting most of lore in the events is not the best thing to do.
