The story is about, the titular Cendrillon or Zhongli, who attends a ball to kill Prince of Fatui or Childe when the clock strikes midnight since he was handled by the fairy godmother. As Cendrillon and the Prince meet, they dance together and fall in love. Zhongli becomes increasingly conflicted as midnight approaches, falling into a dilemma as he does not want to kill him. Eventually, he stabs Childe when the bell rings. The final lines of the song discuss the moment right after the prince is stabbed while he can still feel him, and muses on how they want the moment to last forever. But-I know you all want a Happy Ending, right? So just say, Zhongli doesn't know when he stabbed Childe, the knife doesn't even touch him, or like because Zhongli closes his eyes. After the feeling like Childe is dead, then he opens his eyes when he hears the fairy godmother say, "Good Job." But only if she knows, that Zhongli is failed. After the magic disappears, he sees in front of his eyes that Childe is still alive, so they ended up ran away together.
