Do you use room correction software? If so, what do you use?

Arc has been light years ahead of sonarworks in sound quality for a long time! It’s only now people are catching on with the external box. Version 3 of ARC was a huge improvement from version 2 and really made it incredibly useful!

I’m very pleased with Arc. I’ve yet to do any mixing with it yet though. That’ll be the real eureka moment for me! Thanks for watching!

Note that if make any changes in the ARC software (such as change speaker profile, etc) you MUST hit the STORE button, for the change to be transferred to the hardware. This ia NOT automatic! I've seen several reviewers miss this step.

Ooooh, did I omit that? I need to go in and add a note if I did. Thanks for pointing that out! And thanks for watching!

I have both Sonarworks and Arc Studio. In combination with acoustic treatment they are both good products. Arc Studio allows me to monitor with room correction while mixing hybrid and using analog hardware, as well as making it much easier to dial in sounds before tracking. I’m fairly impressed with the quality at this price point - was worried the converters would really suck. The only other similar product I could find was Trinnov that costs more than 10x the Arc Studio.

Exactly! I think they’re both great but the addition of the external box really is a game changer for me! Thanks for watching!

I had ARC 2...was so so, and preferred SonarWorks, which I presently use. Are you happy with the phase resolution with the ARC system? I'd think, as it's not software, there would be no issue? I never have SW instantiated while recording. Wish there was a headphone inclusion with ARC 4 as well. All they'd need to do might be as simple as a headphone jack? Only the engineer would need one. Nice, honest presentation. Best of luck with your work flow!

I've been really pleased with Arc Studio. I was a Sonarworks user prior to moving to this system. Having the corrections come from an external box was a game changer for me. Thanks for watching!

Great video. I’ve never used a room correction software but you have me seriously considering it. The features of this solution really interest me.

The stuff really makes a difference Bro. When I first used room correction (with treatment) I listened to III Sides of Every Story by Extreme because I’m very familiar with that record. I heard stuff I’ve never heard in there before. Reverb tails. Delay characteristics. And with Arc Studio being an outboard piece, it’s great!

Very cool. What about using different sets of monitors? Would you set up a different pre set for each ? I like to switch between my Focal twins / NS10s/ and Auraltone

@@jasonupchurch - Yep, you'd just run the analysis on each set of monitors. And when you switch, just open Arc 4 and send the appropriate correction to the box.

I've been using Sonarworks for years.. I even did a video on using Sonarworks on another machine using a Motu interface to AES in and out ffor quickiest latancy.. I'm also on Apollo system. It still works well and still use it.. Allows me to hear correction all the time.. and is more reliable then their system all when your listening to thing not in your DAW, Or livee sources like a guitar. But soon as I can get my hands on this I want to try it and see if I can get the speed even faster and then not need the 2nd computer to boot up everyday.

Do you think I would see results in a living room audiophile stereo system? It’s an untreated room. I know it wouldn’t have studio results but maybe it could help a bit.

Ya know I hadn’t thought about that but, provided your media system includes a computer, I’m betting there would be an improvement. Thank you for watching!

Thanks for watching! Those are the Vintage 67 from JZ Microphones. I attempted to record what was coming from the speakers but it sounded baaaaaaad LOL. Those normally live on my speaker cabs.

Hi Steve everyone seems to want a simple fix. Are you sonar works and do dance music so I have a subwoofer My first profile showed 18db so I turned down the subwoofer and did a new profile and it was within the plus or minus 6 dB range. At this level engaging and disengaging sonar works really didn't seem to make very much of a difference that was audible. I found the downsides to be annoying and it being just much easier to learn my speakers and monitors by adjusting the sub and studio monitors over a period of several months getting used to the differences until I adjusted them to satisfactory set of settings that'll enabled good translation. I think this is just yet another tool that promises but will probably under deliver just like Sonarwork. Also this new arc unit requires the audio signal to go through some converters. No thanks I'll pass.

Hi Dab, thanks for watching! I don't think it's so much looking for a quick fix - many professional engineers, with very successful discographies, do use some kind of room correction solution. For me, my room seems to favor a fairly heavy low-mid presence, to the extent that I was always mixing those frequencies lower than they should have been and wouldn't hear it until the car test. Same with the highs. And simply adjusting the level of my subwoofer or the tweeters on my monitors doesn't solve that. Using Sonarworks did help me with that because now instead of playing guessing games with my lows/low mids, I'm hearing them more flat and can make better mix decisions; ARC does the same. If I could afford to tear out the walls in part of my house to design something more acoustically friendly, I would, but I can't so Instead I use this as a tool to help me. For what it's worth, I use HEDD Audio Type 30 monitors. Not the highest of the high end but definitely not a deficient monitor by any means.

I would guess you’re getting that clipped signal because your low frequency boost is off the charts

That’s what I figured as well. To listen to it though, while nice and thick, it’s not overbearing. I’m using JBL LSR310 subs & they’re not very strong so that’s why it’s boosted. Eventually I’ll get a real sub in here.
