I’m not sure CIG knows design, or its audience. The Genesis Starliner is the closest thing that we “flight simmers” who enjoy PMDG-like airliners can get in Star Citizen. We spend our time in cockpits mastering the beauty & engineering of modern navigation (or Astro-nav in this case). People who pledge $400 for a Starliner do NOT want to be a stewardess, nor are we paying $400 for a “mix-master” beverage dispenser. We want the stellar equivalent of PMDG’s Boeing 777 variants. THAT is what we want. I’m a fan of the Vanguard's bogies, (minus the treads) b/c I don’t like skids on transports with wings. Half the fun is simply landing these huge suckers in tricky weather, gusts, etc. Sure, keep the vertical takeoff ability for when needed, but give us bogies and runways fm time to time on planets with atmospheres, let us taxi up to the hangar, or the jet-bridge to load or disembark passengers. To hell with the Mix-Master 2000.

Finally someone else who agrees about the treads on the Vanguard, that, and I wish vehicles with wheeled landing gear would actually roll after landing with the added feature of setting a parking brake. I truly hope the Starliner delivers a commercial airliner type feel. The Spirit E1 is obviously corporate VIP transport, but the Starliner should be that big 777 hauler that parks next to other starliners at the terminals.

Watched all three videos, amazing amount of thoughts gone into this. This latest design was easily the best. The enforced door size limitations around the ramp are the only thing I dislike as I prefer the freedom to load what fits. I particularly like the lower cargo lift overcoming the difficulty of loading long thin spaces the use of staircases for passengers.

Possibly yes. I also toyed around with adding 2 more escqpe modules in the bqck of the upper lounge but that took up far more space than I was willing to give up for it. Plus, it might result in splitting the designated escape area in two, and having 5oo many passengers in one area and not enough in another. But, you're absolutely correct to suggest the upper floor can be turned into anything else.

The wide area at the front of the third floor in front of the bar should be a dance floor with some type of music player. I love your design. I would also suggest that CIG place two modules on the second floor as a default. This would allow them to avoid the firestorm of hate from people who will feel cheated if the ship comes stock with a "missing" module. I love your videos. They are very well done.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, there's all sorts of ways CIG can tweak and vary the design to make it what they want. I was a bit skeptical to put in a dancefloor as I see the Genesis not as a party boat (like 890Jump) but more as a practical people mover. That said, sure: exchange one of the upper couches for a piano and go dance. You can even add a disco ball on the ceiling. Maybe this can all be part of a customization package.

Very nice but if i may add my 2 cents. "Airliners" companies want to maximize profits and for this reason, i would add a 3rd seat on each side in the front section (3 per row instead of 2) The "VIP" section would benefit from adding a second seat instead of a single seater. (You know, for those of us who like to travel with company) The rear section, i would again add a 3rd seat on the port side but for the Starboard side, i would replace ALL the seats with a LUXURY suite that would include a bed, shower and seats for 2 people. Regarding the food tray "Crushing" the leftovers food, glass, coutellery and dishes. That doesn't make sense to me at all. Garbage bins don't make sense to me in the passenger section (Because no one wants to sit beside a garbage can) and should be moved in the galley area.

You're totally correct about weight and balance, but CIG can't be too religious to it since the wing roots need to be the COG or the ship's pitch and yaw will be very difficult to change (especially when carrying a full load). Look at all commercial transports where the wings start to come out of the fuselage and you'll see what I mean. I really like the look of the Genesis, so I hope they don't change it for realism sake but you are absolutely right and weight and balance is one of the most important things when calculating flight capability.

I really like this layout. I like the space in the corridors and I don’t find them a waste when people are moving through. The open space in the back (lounge) might be a little overdone and is a problem already seen in the back of the 600i. Maybe a nice round conference table might help fill that up similar to a community table. I do like the seat layout too. I think as a VIP module this would be really neat to see. I would like to see a model though with a few more seats. I know you mentioned 40, but I like to think we need the Genesis to be more focused on 1st class and below accommodations and seating. More of a large quantity personnel transport. And I say this only because we have a few VIP transport ships in the run as it is. The 890, the 600i, the Constellation Phoenix, and even the Spirit E1. These are super fancy dedicated VIP transport, so it would be nice to see the Genesis focus on quantity rather than “high-end” passengers. I do see the challenge though with escape pods or modules if there were more people on-board. The use of storage is brilliant. I love how you separated the passenger cargo and the regular or commodity cargo. I also like the lift for the passenger cargo which should make it quick and easy to load using the Mule or other cargo transport tools. The separation of the engineering space, crew movement, and cargo from the passengers is also really well done. I imagine from an architect standpoint this is a great point to notice and focus on. Overall I like the work you put into this design and I would love to see CIG take some inspiration from this. Thanks for sharing!

But isn't the 304 SCU of cargo in the old metrics system. So means it would be less. Also if you compare the starliner to any other real transport plane, they all won't get parachutes or escape pods. Probably no one will.. Only extra air supply. And only business class gets a bed. Also thinking modules like cinemas (entertainment) or swimming pool/gym rom. Business module with a meeting table and projector? They also mentioned a variant with prisonersatsome point, that's interesting.

Good layout. However, I think you should take a bit more inspiration from real airplanes. They also sometimes have diagonal lines, but a straight seating. And there should be more seats in the middle of the ship. The front could have the luxorious capsules with windows outside, then a corridor, then two luxorious middle seats. Real airplanes usually have the best seats at the front so these people can get off quicker. I would also add a Galley to the front close to the Cockpit door, so there will always be a flight attendand guarding this door. Then one further behind where the second attendand can guard the back part of the ship, where the Crew area is. I like the idea of the stairs at the front & back, but I'd prefer them to be rather straight - maybe a bit innspired by the grand staircase of the titanic with one in the middle, then two smaller ones outside if you have to squeeze it a bit.

  • @sirberticus3815

    @sirberticus3815

    6 ай бұрын

I actually did start out with a realistic airplane design but that quickly ran into all sorts of issues. A real airplane today has a center isle only wide enough for 1 person. Unlike real people in real life, NPCs nor real player characters can contort themselves to squeeze into/onto other people seats where there's no actual legroom for another person to stand. In short: you need proper pathways with the full width of a character in order for a person to move anywhere in the game. And, for two people to pass each other you actually need the width of two characters. Sorry, but such is the limitation of game design. The food galley needed to be in the middle ion order to minimize the ship's waistline as the alternative would have been to have the quad (8) seating sections next to the galley making the Genesis extremely "Fat". Keep in mind that the flight attendant gameplay involves a timer clock that rates you on how fast you deliver the food to the customer and you can hopefully understand that you'll want your most privileged passengers closer to the where the food comes from. But, maybe CIG has found some new techniques to alleviate the concerns you've raised and could then improve on the design. We'll find out in time.

This is pretty nice and I hope CIG is paying attention. However, I do think the circulation space is a little overdone if it is not required for the game to handle traffic. The double side corridors everywhere waste a lot of space similar to the Retaliator and Starfarer that are 50% corridors. Especially the crew area in the back shouldn't need the extra corridors since if there is a passenger following a crew member around that should be dealt with on-board security, not by designing more entrances the same passenger could follow the crew into as easily. And the four lane galley walkway on both sides is way overmeasured. If you made them one way only you could get by with two. You won't find a situation where the VIP pod passenger is loading their stuff into the pod, two passengers are passing each other by and someone is at the galley waiting for food. On both sides at the same time.

I think 4 crew is far too few, you need 1 pilot, 1 copilot, at least 1 engeneer, that would only leave 1 crew to service the pasengers and the bar and the galley and, and ,and... I'd say double that then you have 1 pilot, 1 copilot, at least 1 engeneer, at least 4 regular crew and 1 that can either be additional crew or engeneer... you could slim-down the suitlockers in the crew-habitation so they fit all on one side and lose the utility-/gunracks in there so you can fit 4 more beds... also the utility-/gunracks should be behind a hatch that is not seethrough since it doesnt look good if your utility-items/guns are on display to passengers (personally I'd put one Utility-item and one smg in one rack so the crew can reach whatever they need quickly from anywhere on the ship)

If the flight attendant or Bartender needs help then they can call on the engineer to come help out. If the engineer is busy fixing a vital ship component then he has a good reason not to help. If that happens often then you don't maintain your ship properly or fly routes that are too hazardous.

appreciate your videos. and I like your delivery. humble and likeable. what about the concept that escape pods are not necessary. In today's world there isnt a single commercial airliner that provides any sort of thing for its passengers...we all take the risk knowing that if something catastrophic takes place on a commercial flight, although unlikely, the consequences are almost always absolute. What if there was a commercial passenger transport of the Genesis that didnt have escape pods for all its passengers. could that be a modular choice? its a ton of space for an event that is hopefully unlikely. its basically another insurance policy - albeit a worse one. And not knowing how CIG plans to deal with people in escape pods....wont most players just log out? I mean who will actually wait for rescue? will the juice be worth the squeeze. as a gameplay element I question the validity of gameplay value in escape pods holistically. it makes logical sense if you're going for realism -- but in a game, Im not sure. Love your thoughts.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I agree. The Genesis should never be utilized in any military role for this very reason: It should be able to outrun conflict instead of meeting it head-on. IMHO, the Genesis should be fast like the MSR with superior linear jerk and acceleration, to always stay ahead of any QD device and then QT away. I guess, if that were true, the Genesis wouldn't need any escape pods or even a defensive turret. But, passengers will always want to 'feel' protected, so it could very well be that the UEE has mandated these features to be integrated into the Genesis. All speculation, but that's for CIG to deal with.

@@sirberticus3815thanks for replying. good discussion. I own a Genesis. I am, like you I assume, looking forward to this ship. I see the commercial terminals in all the stations and think about my Starliner every time. I am wondering though, about how much space would be available if even the non military version had no escape pods. What would fill all that space and how could it be better utilized. Im afraid, with how CIG has designed a lot of things, that a lot of space and design (escape pods for one) will just be wasted space/time.

Passenger ships become more useful when they can service many population centres. The more seats you have, the more seats you need to fill in order to break even (make the trip worth the effort). Besides, it still needs to fit inside a large hangar unless you really want to limit yourself to just a handful of places that can accomodate a really large ship.
