Everyone thinks we’re self centered and obsessed over social media, when in reality we’re the most anxious and depressed generation, and NOT just because of media. We’re realistic, and we see little to no good in the future because that’s what we’ve been told since we could walk. Our generation hasn’t had the benefits of being told we can be whatever we want, we’ve been told that life is hard, and if you don’t work you won’t end up anywhere, which is true. Our humor is morbid, and our language is deconstructed. We know that saving the planet will be our responsibility, but we have little faith in ourselves, our governments, and large corporations.

You glossed over our hardships with a lengthy “I have to get validation from social media”. I don’t know how things are where those kids are, but a lot of Gen Z don’t care about validation from others through social media. Maybe that’s just where I’m from though...

Its sucks cause older generations blames us for things we didn't do. Most of us are still trying to complete our education yet they blame us for being "lazy" and "zombies". They kept on generalizing us for being the worst generation yet we are just kids and teens. If only my generation had good parents... luckily my parents actually taught me to be a good person. Edit: They are the one doing stupid mistakes yet my generation and the generation after mine has to deal with the mess they made. Its hard to think that you have to be the one to change and fix the world but we are just kids. We try to study hard cause we might not achieve our dreams due to over population. My parent always gave me the best education they could give me and my older siblings for us to have a better future.

Our generation isn't obsessed with social media. We are constantly being bombarded with responsibilities that need to be achieved now and correctly or we will "fail" in the future. We are eager to do something in the world but don't know how we'll do it yet. It's almost like we're being rushed to grow up but we are resisting it as much as we can. All these mistakes made by people before us are our problems now, and we are just trying to survive them.

Generation Z in my opinion is a healthy mix of earth and natural ways and technology. we dont really care about materialistic things and want to be more understanding of different opinions and we want to be able to take criticism so we can then grow as an individual. we dont take life too seriously but we take it seriously enough to understand that our futures depend on us and not anyone else. we are realistic and while we were born into technology, we arent as needy about it. We are hard workers and dont expect things to be given to us for free because nothing in this world is for free. We are a combination of old fashioned morals and values and modern ways of expression and again morals. I dont think we care about how we are perceived by other people, we really are more focused on our futures. if we have personal success, why do other peoples opinions matter

Super Soviet. A heavy percentage of millennial's as you know are offspring of Gen Xers. And you must remember, there education is by boomer's and older Gen Xers. Both have done a piss poor job, telling you your special and keeping you sheltered for two different reasons. Any millennial who was educated by a boomer, had to compensate for the lack of care they give there own kids, so this was transgressed on to the millennial's, but over the top. Now education by a gen Xer, was just the reverse reason, they didn't want to be like there parent's when it came to the next gen. So yes they told the millennial's there special and they can be anything they want. Now, I'm a mid Gen Xer, and my parents were from the silent gen, yes a late child. I has the same experience as other gen Xers, but with the bonus of both parents being around. Lucky to have independence, problem solving skills, and advise when I really got stuck, as well as discipline. My child, like myself also skipped a generation, but is being taught self reliance, along side his education, and if he's does something good, praise is given, but there is no reward for anything else. Advice yes but he is not wrapped in a blanket. Everything your gen has, he has, but its regulated. He has it on weekends only and he chooses if he wants to go out with friends, game, or chill.

Mary _1462 this video is very inaccurate to most gen z. We don’t use Facebook, this video seems to promote that we are “being fake” on social media. We all know that’s how social media works and this weird search for authenticity that was prevalent in the 90’s seems inauthentic in itself. This video seems to apply to melenials more than us. Gen z just tend to be more on the side of not giving a shit about a lot of things and just living life in a way that will hopefully get you a job.

I disagree the West is very different from your friends from "Morocco to Bangladesh". The reason being that the West already went through that period of gay-acceptance whereas the Middle East and North Africa are barely starting to experience this. From what I've seen, Generation Z in the West isn't focused on gays rights and womens rights at all and we focus much more on personal privacy issues and Internet data protection, etc.

Generation Z have not had any influence on the world yet. Millennials and Gen Y are responsible for the world around you. What you said was complete bullshit though all i see of gen z is pretty much a whole generation of mindless braindead zombies who are afraid to be different from one another and are nothing without their social media and phones. As a millennial I dont want to live on this planet anymore when its gen z’s turn to step up to the plate. Also what is up with the fucking remakes!?!? My whole childhood seems to have been rehashed and im a 90s kid for fuck sake. No originality.

To all those people discrediting millennials ( I am also generation z btw) and saying that this generation is basically going to fix the worlds... Don't get so cocky. Do you think the other generations, including millennials, didn't say the same thing? Okay good we have technology and are better educated an shit but that doesn't mean we are the solution to everything , there is so much to fix; corruption, poverty, wars and just one "entrepreneurial generation" will probably not be able to fix that. Putting down all the other generations, like millennials, makes you worse than just "whiney little bitches", as someone so eloquently said, it makes you arrogant and as far as I know arrogance never fixed the world.

I think gen-Z will be the most intelligent generation of them all yet because we grew up with the internet which has enormous amounts of information that is easily accessible. However we are also less social and more depressed which is unfortunate. Update(17/09/2020): My opinion on the subject matter has changed a tad bit. It is true that through the internet it allows us all to access a ton of information through the palm of our hands with ease. The bad thing about this though is that with so much information freely being accessible to us it is inevitable that a lot of miss-information is also accompanied. That is probably why we today have a large number of science-deniers. Although, it could be argued that it is only because of the social aspect of the internet the science-deniers are able the speak their mind and preach their ways to others. This could in turn create the illusion that the number of science-deniers has risen with time, but in reality, the amount of science-deniers has actually remained the same over time. It's just that they now have a platform to freely speak their mind. Therefore in my opinion if we think of intelligence as how much of true factual information and a spectrum of each side, gen-Z will have a lot of people on the extremes of the spectrum with a lot of people on each side of the spectrum but a few in the middle.

1977-1984 = X/Y Cusps 1985-1992 = Core Generation Y 1993-2000 = Y/Z Cusps 2001-2008 = Core Generation Z "Cusp" refers to a transition between one generation and another. 1993 & 1994 = Gen Y with some Gen Z influences 1995 & 1996 = Lean Gen Y, but some may relate more to Gen Z 1997 & 1998 = Lean Gen Z, but some may relate more to Gen Y 1999 & 2000 = Gen Z with some Gen Y influences This is mostly my opinion, but I believe it holds some truth since Pew Research at the beginning of March cut off the Millennials at 1996, and they seem to be going by a 16-year theory with 1965-1980 being X and 1981-1996 being Y, so we can assume 1997-2012 will be Z. Obviously though, 1993-1996 is Late Gen Y and 1997-2000 is Early Gen Z, meaning they'll have more in common with each other (especially those born 1995-1998) than they would with those in Early Gen Y (1981-1984) or Late Gen Z (2009-2012), so using a cusp range for those born in 1993-2000 seems fair to me.

As a Gen X, we didn't rely on technology or friends to tell us how we should look. I can see that some younger generations have low self-esteem because relying on a computer and social media " to make you" or help you out" is where this" mistake" begins. It's best to NOT RELY ON SOCIAL MEDIA OR INTERNET. Gen X, we had hardly no technology, only 5 computers in the whole high school. The main thing was that when I was a teen, people relied on each other, they helped, and cared for each other. Thus is what's missing in the younger generations.

Do you want to know what Gen Z is actually like? We are the broken kids. We are NOT millennials. Millennials grew up with a promise that they were going to have a good life, get a good job and start a family. We never ever got that. We were always told that it was going to be really really hard, and that makes us not want to try. But we laugh it off. We have that dark, weird sense of humor that you're always hearing about because the alternative is to break down and cry because the dark humor is TRUE. Our world is broken, but unlike the millennials, we are ready to fight. And we are ANGRY. And we are willing to do whatever it takes to bring change because the ADULTS AREN'T LISTENING. So please be patient. We grew up too fast, and we're weird and different. But I think that's a good thing.

You gotta love how older generations think that we are depressed because of social media. No, the true reason why Gen Z is so depressed is because we have to clean up issues that the generations before us created. Global warming, economic debt, terrorism, hundreds of years of discrimination etc. And on top of that, even before we have graduated high school, before we even have the chance to fix these issues, we are called “entitled and lazy”. Gen Z has the entire fate of the planet on its shoulders, and before we can even work, we are bashed. And they wonder why Gen Z is the most depressed and unmotivated generation. It’s because now it is almost impossible to succeed in this world, so we see no point in anything anymore.

I still feel like there should be a generation between gen y and gen z that goes from 1995-2007 (when IPhones came out and got popular) because if you grew up before then you didnt have smartphones or apple, you probably went outside, watched Saturday cartoons, and yeah your family might have had a computer but siblings share and it wasnt fast or small. Gen z are supposed to be the people who only know tech but if you grew up before it was around or your family didnt have any of it then you remember a time before and after it. It's one of those things that I think should be smaller or more like a decade or so since if you grab 20 years worth of people and say they share similarities you're going to be wrong cause it's too broad of a group, you can't contain that many people in a box.

It's funny now.that young people now act superior and holier than thou . They think they are important and understanding but are not . It's best that gen z are more nice and polite and understanding . Treat people the way they want to be treated. Respect people's feelings. Don't be so snobby. Remember every body is the same. Be respectful. Don't act like you own the place.

I’m trying to do a bit of research because I’m writting a paper on what it was like to grow up on the post 9/11 world and this seems like a complete millennial video. It is true that Instagram and Snapchat stories make us depressed but I find that it glosses over how we can be an independently thinking generation because we came of age during the time where there was very little keeping us from any information we wanted to know showing us that our planet is dying and we have until we’re 25-35 to stop it yet the generations older than us just completely ignore the problem and think technology is making us crazy, I knew this video was bullshit when she said she was excited about the future

I'm going to be honest, I was born in 1997 and I can't relate to gen z. I relate more to gen y only because I never grew up with social media or a smart phone. I didn't even have a smart phone until I was in 10th grade and facebook was 9th grade. I'm seeing kids at age 5 with a smart phone and when I was 5 I was out playing outside or watching cartoons. I'm going with gen y on my part only because it doesn't make since to cut half of a decade out that had a big influence in the 2016 election when gen Z had no say in it yet everyone was talking about how all the millennials get a say in politics now ranging from 18-early 30s and I was 19 when I voted.

So if I were to make a movie in which gen z is described (I was born in late 1998) I would be prone to do it differently. We grew up with a or two caring but worried parents. Our parents taught us to be careful with money and to be kind to people. We were taught that we have to work in order to make a living but we were also raised in the regret of our parents not having their dream job and encouraging us to do the job we feel will not bore us even after 40 years or more at work. Or maybe our parents had their dream job and encouraged us to do the same. We grew up with an incredible love for family, even though the love we give sometimes doesn't pay of. We also know that in order to support our parents and maybe, maybe not the family we want to have, needs financial support because they deserve it. We had our first job probably around age 16 because we just couldn't stand the feeling of using our parents money all the time. We grew up with the awareness that saving is mandatory because economy won't grow forever. And we grew up with more diversity then many generations before us, that's why we are so liberal, because at heart we know, people are just people and there will always be a small percentage of people who do wrong things, who are immoral, misguided and manipulated, sick and Ill. But we are aware that this is always a minority and we know that if we were in their situation we wouldn't act differently. We might have grown up with electronics, but we remember walkmans and cassette players and DVD players and old indestructable Nokia's. But we aren't experts on the internet. We face problems that we couldn't even influence. The war in the near East, presidents and dictators with no sense for diplomatic discussions. We have to live with Brexit because the elders were against the EU. We partially weren't even allowed to vote yet. We have to face conspiracy theorists, fake news and alternative facts, we have to deal with people who won't vaccinate their children. We love progress but we're afraid it's to late for all of us. And we realise that we have to live for ourselves and what fullfils us. We are supportive of the LGBTQ+ community because we understand that two consenting humans are just humans and that they should have the same rights. Yet we find comfort in religion because it give us a sense of peace.

You are kids! Give me a break. How can you know what you are at so young an age? People change so dramatically over a lifetime just through the nature of growth and age and changing roles throughout life and a changing body and a changing world and changing experience. The insistence on being defined and special and something to be wept over or exulted based on your "generation" is a failing and is crazy. It's self absorbed to be that into defining self. The relentless need to "identify" as a group of some sort is stifling the world. Let the mystery be. Live your like and stop grasping at a label

When their balls drop, and they have to actually work in the real world and not return to their Mother's home, life will smack them on the ass and their integrity will be questioned. They speak as if they know but they don't know because the teens are comfortable in homes where everything is being handed to them on a silver platter and they have the audacity to criticize ALL millenials. Tbh, I see a lot of Gen Zed kids and they are fucking worse than anything I was raised like.
