im sooo glad you said the most important part of being a surgeon is deciding whether or not a person really needs the surgery! as a woman who was operated on in her early 20s unnecessarily and as a result, has suffered from severe, agonizing, pain for the rest of my life from an unnecessary surgery… I think that is so so important and the fact that you realize how important that is make me respect you even more !!❤

I really appreciate you speaking on the fact that surgery is NOT always the answer. The conservative approach and how beneficial it is to the patient/ risk vs reward long term etc. is so important to consider. I have had the privilege to work for a pediatric dentist that was very aware in that way as well as a prosthodontist/OMS that was the same. As their right hand I appreciated their approach so much.

100%, I think one of the most important things we learn in surgical training is actually when NOT to operate. Surgery isn't always the answer and we need to be able to recognize that.

I’ve noticed when it come to your life passions you can only put up with negative things at your work (sacrifices) as you called them when you don’t just work, but elevate to a vocation (your life’s calling) if you will. The energy you gain from being in your purpose outweighs all of the other things and keeps you vibrant. God has definitely blessed you, don’t forget this. ❤❤ Jesus is the Way, the Life, and the Truth. Through Him is the only way we can get to the Father. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and know in your heart that God raised Him from the dead on the third day and you will be saved!!❤❤ Love your work and passion. Keep going and bless others❤❤

I wanted to know - does it change your attitude depending on what kind of intern you have, I mean - in this case - is the anaesthesia intern expected to do the exact same tasks as the surgery intern? Or can they get a little bit of a more free pass? Not major of course, but if the surgery intern IS gonna do surgery in the future and the anaesthesiology isn't, is he still expected to participate at the same exact level? I'm just curious how is it for interns that are rotating in "other specialities", is that taken into consideration. :D Anyway. You are amazing!

Former CST, now 3rd year med student likely applying for surgery residency. Biggest advice is take notes--you will be learning several different types of surgeries in several different surgical specialties and the preferences of several different surgeons for each specialty and surgery. That's a lot! Some surgeons do not fully understand or acknowledge how much scrubs techs need to know. So be patient with yourself in the learning process!!
