General Shabeg Singh, the patriot turned traitor - his friend Gen Brar recalls

Lt Gen Kuldip Singh Brar is a veteran of the 1971 India-Pakistan War and the liberation of Bangladesh. He was also the commanding officer of Operation Blue Star and to this day, he remains on the hit list of Khalistani terrorists. In an informative conversation with Smita Prakash, 89-year-old Lt Gen Brar explains the preparations that went behind Operation Blue Star and the situation in Punjab during that time. He describes, in gripping detail, the operation and the events that followed. He recalls the assassination attempt on him by Khalistani terrorists ten years ago in London and how he fought back. He narrates his experience during the 1971 India-Pakistan War and the inside story of Pakistan’s surrender. In this video, Lt Gen Brar recalls his encounter with General Shabeg Singh who turned a traitor after serving many years in the Indian Army. He talks about what went wrong and how General Shabeg Singh ended up in the court of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

I am sorry General Brar but I stand strongly opposed to your view. You Sir, are telling the half truth here. Shabeg Singh was acquitted by the civilian court of this Country where he had challenged the verdict, and that acquittal proves that ultimately he was innocent of the charges levied against him. When a proud and honest soldier's reputation is tarnished in a false manner, then his revenge will always be terrible. It's the Indian state and it's government machinery which is squarely responsible here for this debacle

Where as going against army , Shahbeg Singh did nothing wrong, he was a man worth his salt. Did what a righteous Sikh would do, hold his ground and check the unjust. The first and last battle Indian army fought and morally and tactically lost on Indian ground is Battle of Amritsar. Shahbeg and people like him taught govt lesson that people are ready to show corrupt govt it's place. Especially Indira Gandhi govt who rigged election and showed allahabad high court that judiciary is a toothless tiger and it's clout is limited to paper which it waste writing order to whom people in power are immune to. General Shahbeg Singh was the one who organized and trained Mukti Bahini in Guerrilla warefare and tactics he was a mastermind. Brar is not telling the truth, he didnt answer the question. Shahbeg Singh was a patriot and proud Indian until he saw VK Raina a superior officer stealing funds from the Kumoan Regiment. VK Raina used funds for his daughters wedding, when Shahbeg Singh brought this upon a panel the military turned against him to support Raina and other corrupt officials in the military. The congress also went against Shahbeg and supported the VK Raina, General Shahbeg Singh was court martialed, his pension was removed, he was treated like a second class citizen. He felt Sikhs were being mistreated and then joined with Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Sikhs have always fought bravely for independence, and in every battle India has ever had after partition, there is a reason why one of the most patriotic communities has been losing feeling for India. There is always a root cause.

Just as Bhindranwala did. Bhindranwala never demanded Khalistan if you actually read the demands you will laugh it off 3 demands were to Name a train from Amritsar as Golden temple express.... Remove cigarette shops from near the golden temple .... and a direct relay of Gurbani from the Golden Temple on the radio. But as they say in politics you give an Inch and they will/might demand afoot. General Brar executed the operation in haste as he was under pressure and made a big blunder. Gen Sinha refused you can listen to him on youtube, there is an interview with Kanwar Sandhu. Whatever I said can be backed up with proof. Mrs.Gandhi did not expect such a terrible fight to happen at the Golden Temple. I would rather say start from the partition it was a Journey through fault lines for Panjab. Yes there are some fanatics in Sikh kaum who demand a different nation and will say all sorts of nonsense against our Country but still, 80-90% of the Sikhs consider them Indians First and Punjabis second.

Gen Shahbeg Singh was a great patriot. The only reason he was stripped off his rank against stupid trumped-up charges was because he stood up against a narcisstic Indira Gandhi & refused to involve the Indian army during her harsh Emergency Period. Indira Gandhi further humiliated him by unceremoniously removing him from the Asian Games inauguration ceremony. I pity & sympathise the death of such a great army officer who unfortunately got influenced by the misguided Khalisthani movement due to the humiliation by Indira Gandhi. But I shed no tears for the death of Indira Gandhi. She deserved what happened to her. Her entire family has been the real traitors to our beloved nation. By the way, I am NOT a Modi bhakt. General Shabeg Singh. He was not a traitor. He refused to step into the Bihar movement and crush Jayprakash Narayan's protest. So Indira Gandhi got him court martialed. He was stripped of his pension. He fought in 1947, 1962, 1965 wars. He trained the Mukti Bahini in 1971.He fought against the insurgency. That doesn't mean his actions in 1984 were justified. But atleast give a thought to why he was brought and ended up like that. The government made this to him. Condemn the system which turned a patriot into this.
