The anecdote about his mother was heartwarming and refreshingly honest. Amazingly talented, and so down-to-earth and genuine in person... Mr. Wilder, you are a delight, sir. Rest in peace.

Such a shy sweetheart of a man and brilliant actor and comedian. My idol, I'm so proud to share Milwaukee WI as a home town with Mr. Gene Wilder. I live close to his old high school. RIP Mr. Wilder there is one more angel in haven now tears. As fans we will love and miss you forever tell we meet again tears.

Not many people understands nor will try to understand what it means that we are loosing all they great ones. Great individuals as Mr. Wilder, means not only how great he was, is, in what he did but the person inside of the people like this man is gone. It doesn't live inside of today's actors and entertainers. People are famous for no reasons, what so ever and their heads are empty. I'm so glad I had a chance to grow in the times I did, sharing the world with bright, brilliant individuals as him. He was one of the greats, and there's no one like these guys and gals any longer. It's a very sad time to loose people in this world because it feels a little more empty.

I completely agree. I'm a young fan though I'm nearly 30 years old but I do respect actors such as Mr. Wilder there aren't any today nor great singers. It's very frustrating but I'm proud I have better taste then my generation.

Thank you for being respectful at your young age. Just an advise for an old soul as you are seems to be. The songs for "Willy Wonka" were written by two wonderful British songwriters Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse. Anthony Newley was also a great singer in addition, an actor and entertainer. You can find a lot of his creations posted on You Tube. I think you would enjoy this man's talent as well, unless you knew about him already.

Had the great fortune to meet him at a book signing. Says he would make another movie if he got a script he liked. He's not a fan of the cursing and crass humor. He's got a point. He didn't need it and there was no one better!

Saw him in Charlie and the Chocolate factory as a kid, I think it was after I started loving the book and Roald Dahl's works, then I saw him again by coincidence because I decided to drop in on some guy streaming a movie I had never heard of: The Producers. Now I just absolutely love him, and the love isn't even clouded by childhood nostalgia. I had forgotten I'd ever seen him before! What a kind, lovely man

Wonderful to see this, thank you for uploading. Terry Wogan could sometimes be quite an awkward interviewer but here you can tell he is trying his best and is genuinely a fan of Wilder, so is trying to coax answers out of his own interest and respect for the man's work. I met Gene Wilder very briefly when he signed his book for me at a book store, and he was so shy and quiet, but still had that gentleness that you see here.

@nounever Yes and no. Don't know why you'd think of the 70s, but you're right in that it's not in '91. They are talking about "The Woman in Red", which was released in 1984. And in the end Wilder mentions writing on "Haunted Honeymoon", which was released in '86. So, this interview was shot somewhere between '84 and '86.
