This performance is tremendous all around. Gene’s voice is really at its best and he does some styling that makes this the best version of “Hot Afternoon”I’ve ever heard.

Thank you Gene Watson for singing all these wonderful songs, no one else can do it like you..I absolutely love your voice..

Marty Robbins told me in an interview that I did with him, that Gene Watson was his favorite singer. Gene is still a great country singer. His singing is incredible. Listen to this and then go back and listen to this same song when he was younger. Man, he's still got it.

Most definately!

Gene's voice here is so strong. I don't see how he can sing so well sitting down. I like what Larry Gatlin said after he sang Farewell Party (while sitting down), Gene belted out the final verse flawlessly and Larry couldn't believe it and said that signing that song sitting down should be against the law lol. Gene has the pipes, and his voice is like a fine wine, it only gets better with age.

He's sitting up right and leaning forward. All singers know the posture. It frees the diaphragm and allows the lungs full expansion.

I go back to my childhood, spending long hrs of quiet but quality time with Sonny ( my dad) no words exchanged, but this song was my first favorite song at the age of 5. Gene Watson has an awesome, but unique, soothing voice like I've never heard . The attraction at 5 yrs old is even greater today

Brings back wonderful memories of a great love, lost in 1979, he was killed in an accident, the love of my life. We both love this song.

I've listened to this song for over 30 years and it's still one of my all-time favorite songs.

Gene Watson is my favorite singer on earth. He is a legend. Keep up the good work.

What a great singer!...wish I could have seen him live.

Ever since I summered in New Orleans Garden District, wandered around the French Quarter, had coffee at the Cafe Du Monde, and rode the river ferry back and forth to Algiers to cool off in the mid-70s I've loved hearing this song.

"Love in a hot afternoon".......well,as I've said in previous comments on the great songs of Gene Watson's......he and all other superb Country Singers bring real life alive in their fabulous songs!! We've had a diabolical Winter here..not the beauty of frost and snow...but the utter misery of never-ending rain and floods. Well....it is almost mid-March now and we've had a glimmer of hope in a couple of gorgeous hot days; so,maybe listening to this will bring in a "Sun-dance" for the weeks ahead.....and "afternoons"!!!!....Thank you,as ever,Mark for sharing this. @stratslinger54 I see you appreciate good music too. I will never understand why Gene didn't become a huge country star with that voice of his. He was big in the 70's and early 80's but faded after that. When I first heard him sing (mid 80's) I was hooked. I went out and bought everything I could get my hands on and then wore them out playing them over and over lol. To this day, his voice just memorizes me. In my eyes no one can top his music, he just pours his soul into it.

What a voice. Listen to him hold the notes for each line... Even among the best, not many people have a voice that can prolong a note like that and maintain a refined timbre.

Saw him (again) on July 7, 2022 up in Shipshewana.IN and yes, he STILL sounds this good!!!

I have seen him about 3 to 4 times he is good.
