I cant speak for you folks in the UK but if there was any band that deserved to be called the most underrated band of the 1980's it was definitely Gene Loves Jezebel, at least that's how I feel here in the USA. These guys were awesome and why they didn't make a bigger impact over here is a mystery! I guess I can chalk it up to lack of airplay. I remember I was in Camelot music back in the summer of '86 and this song came on the PA and immediately caught my ear. I listened to about 2 more tracks from the album and was compelled to find out who this was. The girl behind the counter told me the name "Gene Loves Jezebel" and I immediately had to have the cassette. I have been a dedicated fan of this band ever since.

I agree 💯. Being Hispanic I listen to music in both languages and it seems like in both a lot of attention was paid to music and sound. There’s so much going on sound wise that it’s easy to overlook the quality of vocals, guitar tone and rhythm cause it’s all happening at once. At least that’s how think of it. I’m a 90’s kid but after the fog of what was popular to us in our time faded the 80’s stuff really stood out.

Just to say: good comment, response, here... Even though, I should also, too, reiterate, here, about hair, check out that, to me, brilliant, ingenious, song Grey Cell Green...by Ned and them... And, you see that drummer, there, jamming on the drums, does not seem to give an eff about anybody else's hair in there, but just keeping the beat, the snare pops, the flow, continuously in beat, in check, on check, constant, continuous...to the end when, of course, all of the others are banging their heads against the floor, walls, collapsing.......

Saw them at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA in 1987 with Echo & The Bunnymen and New Order. Fantastic show that I still make people listen to me talk about today. An era of acoustic/electronic music with heart and feeling that I'm afraid is gone for good. So great that it's still available here to remind...

the 80's scene had to be experienced and lived as it occurred. it can not be reinvented there is no modern music today that comes close to the artist's of the 80's thank God I was in High School in California in 1985 and middle school in Germany.

Wholeheartedly agree, so much great music in so many genres. Not the canned, processed and over studio crap of today. Back then you earned your shot then the industry pumped money into you, now they seek out a look and make that person successful (whether they have any talent or not).
