Gen 1 requires IR lights to work. Not super effective in tactical situations, especially if you suspect the enemy has their own NVG’s. BUT, install a few IR lights facing out around your house, and not only will you be able to see decently with your Gen 1’s from your windows in a dark house, but you get the added benefit of blinding people looking towards your house with their Gen 1’s. Super cheap, super easy, fairly effective for home defense.

Older versions, like we had in the late 80s early 90s was bad about this. Theyd try to adjust, but the tech just wasn't there yet. If it got too bright, like arty flares, personnel flares, or if someone in an AC130 or ground mounted laser and it caught you right before the NODs could adjust the filter, and they ate batteries like candy at halloween. The depth perception was really bad too. We would all have stories of running into trees, getting hit in the face with branches, and the mounts were horrible. Nothing helmet mounted back then. Youd put em on your head with this harness that was about useless, especially if you were doing a bounding overwatch or combat rush against a position. The helmet then went over the harness. Im glad someone decided to fund projects to further the tech.

yeah, anybody that thinks ufo's aren't real, evidently doesn't understand english... may not be alien, but there are objects...in the sky... that are not identified... saw some weird stuff swimming late at night when i was in like 8th grade. me and this girl were out in the pool a couple times and saw one that just did not move like anything else i've ever seen, or would think possible. but it did look like lights of a more normal aircraft. but didn't hear anything, and it definitely wasn't a plane because of the way it changed direction. and another that was a very big triangle of red lights... no green or white. just red markers, one in front, and more along it's leading edges. looked like maybe a big flying wing. there was an active airbase close by at the time, so maybe something to do with the stealth blackhawks, think they were built around that time. would've been awesome if i could've seen something other than just lights in the sky. only things like that i've ever really seen, and both were within like a week or so. middle tennessee in the late 90's.@@alamo_night_vision

My Gen 2 is better than that Gen 3. Sorry, but people really need to start taking their heads off the "Gen" talking points and actually underrated what makes a nod good.

Your “Gen” 2 use a gallium arsenide photo cathode? I don’t think you know what you’re talking about dude. Generation two technology has been dated since the 1980s.

You see. This is the problem with this fucking generation. you have access to the Internet you have the ability to literally research anything before generating an opinion. The Internet is a tool I suggest you try using it.
