Hey broski how's things going now? How's your progress
Thank you SO MUCH for making this series! You've gotten me EXTREMELY interested in gemcutting - currently saving up for my first machine after I get a new car - but my continued inability to find a gemcutting club of any kind in my area has always made me feel like I'm just going to have to accept that I'll ruin the first several hundred before I start making progress, even with the tons of tips I've picked up from your videos. Hopefully, this series will alleviate that a good bit :)
Good stuff..hello from Russia.

Jarlsoars - Hey JP, I collected a bunch of honey agates a couple of years ago while fossil hunting in southwestern Iowa, was wondering if you've ever faceted one?

@@bonesstones6584 Hello bone&stones, no, I've never faceted anything yet, as I don't have any machinery for it. I'm in east central Iowa. I did do some geode mining last summer in Hamilton, Ill., however. Have you been to the Floyd Co., Fossil Preserve up in Rockford, IA.? I'm planning on a trip there soon.

@@jarlsoars1150 - No I've never been but it does sound interesting. We'll be selling our house this summer and moving, possibly Florida. I'm hoping to get back to Iowa, I spent 4 days paddling a few of the rivers around a hunting buddies home. I found a mammoth tooth, a piece of mammoth ivory, a fossilized bison skull, several bison mandibles with teeth, verterbrae, canon bones, a piece of a Pleistocene beaver incisor, etc, etc. It was a blast and I can't wait to go again.
Having said aLl that I really look forward to this series. If money suddenly isn’t an issue, I’ll buy a proper machine.
Love your videos
Cliff, great idea, you have hit the nail on the head. I am recently retired and have just restarted fossicking. I have been thinking about getting into this side of the hobby at some time in the future if I find some descent material worth faceting. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Great idea. Please do a specific "pre-polish" video. I think all new cutters struggle with this.

@@joseywilds3133 Hello there.. I want to buy your facet machine, how much is the price?
thanks Cliff your videos are excellent! Does anyone know what height to set the mast when starting a job please?
Hi Cliff, may I ask if the gem Shop is still going? Also thank you for the great uploads. I'l never look at cut gems the same again. You are a true master at what you do, and I now see people selling such badly cut gems I feel for those who have not seen your channel. I'm surprised your channel hasn't got more subs. Thanks again!

Hello friend, if you can in the next video, show us in more detail the fine adjustment of the mast, thank you.
Where can I get a mast faceting arm replacement like your that locks in place. The machine I got the arm doesn't lock into increments.
have you ever had a opal crystal from opal direct?
Hi Cliff enjoyed Part 1 , and looking for Part 2 , any hints were it might be ..?? (busting at the seams to learn ...)

Hi Mark, I haven't made it yet but should be done in a week....Cheers Cliff
When watching this video my mind flashbacked to when I'm 24 and just bought my first machine. Had read about gemcutting for years and collecting rocks since 10, visited gemcutters and mineral shops to cut my gathered stones. Needless to say, wasted that machine because at that time I don't know jack sh*t about maintenance. Burnt out the motor twice, misalignes the axle and the faceting arm because I'm pushing too hard because I'm using too high grit disc and being impatient...I wanted to smack the me from back then.
@VintageTimeGems
3 жыл бұрын
It's never too late to start again....There's been a few time when I wanted to smack myself also for countless mistakes whilst faceting.
FYI: DeBeers and DTC diamond cutters use Handpiece faceter's and NOT mast style faceter's
Hello, where to buy such a machine.
I guess the name of an unsymmetric cut gem is called crude finish

Are the dob sticks always brass? is there a reason for this?

Can be brass, steel, aluminum, or even wood. You kinda want minimum flex and reasonable price when it comes to dops.

Oh man i feel the ADHD kicking in. . .
Why do they call it Gem Cutting? There are no cuts. Its all gem grinding and polishing.
