+Rachel & Jun I've been to this place!! It was sooo beautiful! I went here a year ago and it was one of the best moments in my life. But you have to know the boat was a bit shaky, it was quite windy and yeah it rained a bit...it was quite an unlucky day for me,I am very terrified by the idea of deep water ( I know the water isn't that deep but still scary!!!) . But nothing happened and I'll return next year.
I really appreciate this video. Made me remember why I'm learning Japanese.
Sharla: "Love!" Chris: "Aw. You've gotta get love in. There's no way you can miss this." Sharla: (*throws Love and misses) Chris: "Oh no."
I love the videos of the Japan countryside. Maybe it's not fair - but I feel like cities are cities everywhere in the world and it's the nature parts that are most beautiful and unique to a country.

+Porco Rosso I grew up in Toronto and have been to NYC twice. I'm not so fussed about visiting big cities - though I think really old cities in Europe or the Middle East would be amazing to visit.

+Lezley Davidson Can't agree more. In tokyo I was pretty bored (I had a great time too) but when I went to the countryside, I got to see another side of Japan. In tokyo people were pretty cold, just like people in my city (i live in a metropolitan city so I know how people in city are like) and they were pretty much indifferent of our presence. But in the countryside of japan they welcomed us with tremendous warmth and it felt like paradise on earth.
I lived in Tohoku...It's super beautiful!! I miss the peacefulness sometimes.

Sharla in Japan I lived in Aomori :) It snows a ton there but gosh it's so beautiful...I moved right when they were going to have the cherry blossom festival at Hirosaki so I missed it. :( I lived literally next to the castle!

what made you move?
I really enjoyed this video. I've seen Rachel and Jun's clips from this place and I really would love to see it someday. Also, BIG thank you for filming the guide singing! That was wonderful. EDIT: As someone who enjoys singing myself, I can only imagine what it feels like to sing in a place like that where your voice comes back at you off the rocks like that. The feeling of it is almost like a natural high.
The impression left on me because of his singing--the green cliffs, blue, blur waters, the slow pace--it was amazing. I would've loved to have come along in that boat ride.
What an awesome video! Thank you Sharla and friends to share with us so beautiful experience.
Thanks Sharla for another great video.
I definitely will visit there! Thank you guys for this wonderful video.

nice, one of the places I am considering visiting in my next trip in Japan. A Japanese friend recommended me this place and after seeing your video I will try to come to Geibikei for sure.
the singing in that kind of setting on the boat was just beautiful
What an amazing place to visit! Hopefully, some day, I will be able to experience it in real life! But, if not, at least I got to experience it through you! The boat Captain, I guess he would be called, had a beautiful voice! I wasn't expecting that! Again, thank you for making this video and taking us on all of your journeys. I hope the wish you guys wrote down on the plaque, comes true!!
I'd love to live in Miyagi if I ever end up living in Japan. The Tohoku prefecture really reminds me of home (Scotland) while at the same time being so culturally rich. It looks like the perfect place to live. :')
Beautiful! *Added to my 'to visit' list*

Your videos have really inspired me to teach myself basic Japanese. It's going to be a long road, but it's such a wonderful culture and language and your videos have really made me look at that in depth!
That was so lovely and serene! The boats remind me of the ones I took on Kinugawa River in Nikko.
Sharla, My husband and I visited Geibikei Gorge last week and spent a few days up in Sendai thanks to your videos! Thank you for showing the world northern Japan!
Hi,Sharla. I like all your videos.
Congratulan Sharla you made me want to come to Japan.... Even more ;^;
Wow... your boatman can seriously sing. He should make a cd of him singing traditional songs.
