Geberit TYP290 Dual Flush Outlet Valve Installation

Adam Powell of Powell Plumbing demonstrates how to install the Geberit TYP290 Dual Flush Outlet Valve in a closed-coupled cistern.
The Geberit Outlet Valve TYP290 supersedes the TYP280. The all new dual flush valve is an ideal upgrade for the TYP280 and TYP250 as it fits the original base installed in the cistern. The bright chrome dual flush button is a new style and easier to operate. The valve is designed for close coupled cisterns and available in a retrofit version that suits multiple sized button holes. A long tail base is available as an accessory for cisterns connect with a flush pipe.
Compatibility
TYP250 and TYP280 valves can be changed to TYP290 without replacing the basket. TYP260 is not compatible with TYP290. Fit a complete new valve and basket or order a TYP260 replacement valve.
Replacing Other Valves:
- check cistern depth: 325-465mm (standard 272.400.21.1), 460-600mm (add 243.430.00.1)
- check basket TYPe: close coupled (basket comes with valve), linked cistern (add 241.825.00.1)
Note: if replacing TYP280 or TYP250 the basket is compatible and can be reused.

Quite clear but missing two vital bits of info! Perhaps you can explain. 1. The silver plastic button I have appears to be in 2 halves but they both operate together: there does not appear to be a half / full flush function. Is that correct? 2. the 2 sliders for adjusting flush volume: you say move up and down to adjust. What does each slider do? Should I move up for greater volume or what? Hope you can help. Thanks from the UK.

It's worth noting that the blue circular height locking ring half way down must be fully rotated and click into the lock position, otherwise it will impede the flush mechanism. Even a couple of millimetres out of full lock will do it. It's not always easy to see that you've done this when working in tight cisterns when you can only turn it with your finger tips.

Thank you, great tutorial. I have done something wrong however, when I flush, you need to hold your finger on the button, otherwise the flush stops as soon as you take your finger off. Any help would be appreciated and TIA.

The piece the buttons screw onto is adjusted incorrectly. There is a Blue disc on the top of the valve. That has to be turned anticlockwise, the piece the button attaches to is lifted up, the lid is refitted to the cistern which will push this piece down to the correct height. The blue disc is turned clockwise and it will click when locked off.
