Prescott had only one purpose...to hide the truth. he had to hide the fact humans had a hand in creating the Locust. in fact we even know that after the events of this game Sid Redburn was killed on Prescott's orders.

The only downside that I can think of would be that we wouldn’t be allowed to use the mark 2 lancer with the chainsaw because in the lore I think it took ether 6 months or 2 years to be created in the lore (I don’t remember the exact amount of time that It took).

There's one thing about this story I can't get over: If the Locust were fighting and losing a war with the Lambent 7 years prior to E-Day, they'd know the Imulsion was responsible. So there's no way in hell Myrrah would allow Ukkon to inject it directly into his forces or himself.

Ukom was one of Myrrah's council in the Rise of Raam, singlehandedly responsible for weaponising Reavers, Brumaks, Corpsers, Karn's deformed Corpser and even creting the Hydra. They'd been fighting the lambent and losing 7 years prior to E-Day, so there's no way in hell Ukom would be crazy or stupid enough to use it as a performance enhancer. That's not even considering the bullshit of it essentially making him immortal until the plot needed him to die. It's not even a surprise he grows back a non mutated arm later on in the game, considering a hole was blown clean through his head, which should have killed him instantly. Yet he heals and gets back up. And Sid, a soldier, conveniently knows the ingredients and process to produce a chemical compound capable of nullifying Ukom's equally bullshit healing factor. That's just bad writing and completely disregards established Gears of War lore.

@@Shay96 Ukkon is a mad scientist meaning hed more than be willing to experiment with something like Imolsion. Besides we've seen that Kantus at the very least have some level of immunity to it since we have personally seen Skorge inhale the stuff directly and still be perfectly fine and in control of himself. More so while Myrrah still has the final word on all military actions it doesn't mean she is aware of everything that happens. For all we know Ukkon could have been running these experiments in secret. Ukkon did not get his head blown up the bullet went through his jaw area not through his brain making it far less difficult for him to recover. Sid knows how to make the weapons because he was probably paying close attention to what the scientist were using to experiment on him. And may have even looked at their notes when no one was around. We already know he didn't like what they were doing at New Hope.

I know I'm really late and it's already explained by more people but another topic, Myrrah is immune to the immersion, the scientists injected a crap ton of implosion into her at new hope as well according to the lore. Upon also has Rustlung, and the canisters he was huffing were what was being used to treat it, plus kantus' natural immunity, due to them actually being native to the Hollow.

For those wondering who Diaz sounds like it’s Charles from Red Dead Redemption 2. Trust me when I figured it out it flipped everything.

I really love the characters in Gears tactics. I wish the developers added a DLC to go against Jermad, the locust captain and his deadly breechshot

Sheesh. Once again they make Prescott look like an ass. In this game they make his hammer of dawn speech sound patriotic rather than remorseful in the books. In the books he seems like he actually understands the weight of what he’s about to do. I don’t care much for the new voice actor either

Yeah, the way they presented the speech really bugged me. Despite how much of a dick he is, Prescott in the books seemed very remorseful during his speech about the Hammer. But I guess since this game makes you play as the Stranded, they wanted you to hate Prescott as much as possible.

@@Veachie i feel the theme of the game was a bunch of people being betrayed by COG, you have Gabe who asked to be transferred to motor pool because of what COG made him do, Sid, who wants to parade Ukkon through the city to show what slimy bastards the leadership of COG has been, and Mikayla who is a Stranded they learn the locust were created by COG, heck Prescott calls a hammer of dawn strike on Gabe and company to keep the secret

Yeah Prescott is mean to be more of a morally gray character not a straight dictator who will kill anyone he wants. The books and comics show that while a lot of things he did were clearly not morally right they were ultimately necessary if humanity had any chance of fighting back against the Locusts. Even in Gears 3 Marcus despite hating that Prescott kidnapped his father he still understands later that it did make sense, and even wonders why Prescott didn't just fled to Azura during the war and instead stayed leading the remaining humans at Jacinto.

Is beyond obvious that the newer writers don't like the COG, went as far as brand them as fascist, which is not how they were portrayed in every GOW lore since the beginning, Prescott was an ahole but he wasn't that monster which didn't care for no one, he stood his ground during the whole Locust war, did what he could, a lot of things were questionable? Yes, but is not like he had that many options to begin with, and he wasn't that secretive about New Hope, is like GOW2 never happened in the new lore.

Anyone else here cause Tactic's gameplay wasn't for them?

I think it's more just to tie everything together between the new and old games. Also... Since I like a lot of people called the whole Cog created the Locust thing way back in Gears 2 during the New Hope Mission; they probably just needed a way to establish that plot line.

@Michael Aguilar Yes. In the game series' lore, Ukkon was referred to as Patient 0 at the New Hope facility, and had been taken there to begin with due to having Rustlung. The research personnel were supposed to look for a Rustlung cure, but instead performed genetic experiments on the patients at New Hope, turning them into Sires. Ukkon was among those transformed, but what made him different from the others was that he retained his intelligence and was not mindless or savage like the other Sires. Additionally, Imulsion gives him a healing factor

there is only one problem IMO...finding a playthrough of it where people aren't customising the gears in stupid ways is near impossible. so if you don't the game yourself and just want to watch a realistic Gears playthrough it is really difficult...everyone is making the Gears dumb colours and sh%$. they can do that all they want in their own time but if their doing an online "let's play" they should just keep it simple.

I thought tai created the chainsaw bayonet months after eday because the bayonet couldnt pierce locust hide. And the locust responded to the new lancer with the improved hammerburst with better recoil & range.?

@@countrybilly7495 If you hadn't said something, I would've. But yeah, to the original commenter, Tactics takes place a year after E-Day. And the Mk. 2 Lancer had already been mass-produced by then. Now, what didn't make sense was in Gears Judgement, the Mk. 2 Lancer was used, when it takes place a month after E-Day. And in that and here in Tactics, the Locust are using the Mk. 2 Hammerburst, when they should've been using the Mk. 1 Hammerburst.

It takes place about a year after E-Day. Adam Fenix actually came up with the Lancer Chainsaw shortly before the Hammer strikes after Marcus' squad discovered that their regular bayonets didn't work on the Locust very well but either Cole or Tai used an actual fucking chainsaw with success on one.

@@Veachie just to Add on both commits in both the expanded material and in some hints in the game the cog was losing the war pretty badly on the early years of the war, they were facing really high casualties by both military and civilian numbers and losing cities the hummer of dawn was a worst-case senior option that was a necessary evil to hold back the locust horde (now I'm not defending the politicians behind the idea as Prescot only give civilians outside of Jacinto only 3 weeks to get there and in gears of war 3 showed that when evacuated Jacinto Prescot basically abandons the cog), even with the Stranded wanting to be left alone by the cog the locust horde would eventually find them to exterminate.

Well, they're not WRONG about COG being Fascists (albeit relatively sane and less murder crazy Fascists). They're also not wrong for being a bit peeved about the government burning the surface to a crisp with them on it. But in this case, they're fighting something so awful that "mass murdering Fascist One World Government" is indisputably the LESSER of evils for the world and the human species. And while the Stranded have many valid points and help piece the world back together, they also tend to bite the hand that feeds them, not care about the greater effort (such as how the surface was probably doomed without the Hammering anyway), and make things worse (which is one reason hwy the sort of functionality we see from GoW 3 and 4 comes from the merger of COG veterans into the Stranded Communities, with the Stranded getting their acts together and the COG abandoning their ideology).

it was just how stranded people saw the Gears after the Hammer Strikes...it's a superficial judgement...it's unfair and innacurate but understandable. when superiors do something like that the only way civilians can cope is to blame the every day soldiers. its the same way civilians in real life call cops facists or pigs when their real hate is for the politicians or government.

The whole thing honestly reminds me of the whole defund the police situation irl. There are a corrupt few in key positions within the COG, calling the shots. And while much of their darker stuff is kept secret, most soldiers who handle multiple key missions for the COG generally tend to grow increasingly wary of the COG and never truly trust them. It just sucks how the individuals within the lower ranks are abused by others for things they had nothing to do with. Plus I got really strong vibes of that during the first act of Gears 5, with the whole settlement 2 reveal. Kait's reaction is perfectly understandable, but Del's wasn't, especially when he was there. And while Faz was spiteful in how he treated Del throughout that, I can almost appreciate his frustration, going through what they did, yet Del's experience seems totally contradictory to his or JD's.

They had them on E-Day And by the way theron guards are actually older Locust Based on the OG design I'm not a fan on the new design of the theron The new drone, grenadier and boomer design looks good tho

@Michael Aguilar Do you remember a cutscene before fight with swarmak in GoW 4. An antagonist with missing arm was standing above JD,Del,Kait and Marcus. We have a bit similar situation in GT. What's more, we can see Kait holding her gun from the same perspective as her father.

I think the enemies were fine. They tried some new things, not all worked. But the story, that wasn't great. I liked the upgrading Jack and being able to directly use him as an asset vs him just being there to rip a door every so often. But kait and del....... I kinda liked del in 4 as a balance to JD, they were written as almost a double act and it worked, but in 5 they turned him into a pathetic puppy dog style high-school kid that's seeking kait's approval. Kait in 4 was just selfish and whiney. The line that really made me dislike her was when JD tells her "Thousands of people could die if they don't do something" and her response was "Everyone I care about is already dead" (this was whilst they're trying to decide on how to contact Baird in the tower after the wind flare). But she was exactly the same in 5. Selfish and whiney. She's a B or C level character. If not for them making Reyna the new queen, kait has no real impact or purpose in the story..... Like del (literally sighed from relief when I got to save JD and let him die, his tedious personality and lack of story gone). I personally would like to see more of Fahz in 6. His character was light hearted yet brutal with a good chunk of banter. Either way it goes though, for 6 del's death must be canon, there's nothing for him in terms of story development anyway beyond this point beyond being a simp for kait, and they need to let us play as multiple characters like Judgement or allow us to pick who we want to play as in each chapter instead of forcing an unlikeable brat on us. Personally, I'd like them to use the Judgement style again and let us control a mix of the old and new characters. But I'm hoping for a much stronger story. That has to be the focus.

@@revenant6345 the Locust ARE the Swarm. That's what they have to do with gears. The D.B'S are, or would be rather, a natural advancement in the COG military. We know they use robots (Jack for instance, robot) so given that Baird basically became the RnD dept for the COG it makes sense that as a soldier and a tech lover he'd look for a way to make it so war exacts a smaller cost on humanity. Given ALL of that, it makes total sense for robots and sentinels and stuff become part of the lore. Back to the Swarm. As of yet, we don't know exactly how the Locust came to transform into them, but they're one in the same. So far as i can tell, your big gripe is, the new trilogy has new enemies and not the same ones as GoW 1&2. For the most part, they share about 80% of the same enemy types. They're just redesigned. The wretches are now the Juvvies, drones and hunters are the same. There's new variations of the boomers and grinders. They're fine. I'm not a big fan of the snatchers and pouncers, but hey, I'd rather them try a new enemy type of 2 than be stuck playing the same game just polished up better. All games change up enemies. Look at Halo 1-3. I LOVE that franchise, but besides the addition of the Brutes in 2, there wasn't any real difference in enemies for the 3 games and it got a little boring at times fighting the same guys you fought in the pervious games. Luckily, the story was really strong which made up for that. Then, Halo 4 came along. We got to keep the elites, grunts and Jackals, but the flood was gone and the Promethians were brought in. It revived the game and gave the gamers a new aspect of the game for them to learn to cope with. That's what is happening with Gears. They gave us the familiar and added some new stuff whilst losing some of the old. The games are still fun to play (the story was a bit weak) and the enemies being shook up and varied gives us that Gears game we want with a fresh bunch of enemies to figure out and overcome. If the games don't change and try new things, why bother making them or buying them? Gears 1&2 were and still are awesome to play, but if i want to play a game like them, I'll just PLAY THEM. Gears 5 (and 4 to a lesser extent) shook the franchise up and tested out a few new ideas. The open world stuff was just about right, they don't want to go full rpg style map trawling. The ability to use Jack was fantastic and the enemies were for the most part a fun new and familiar feeling set of foes. Besides not knowing how the Locust became the swarm, I'm pretty happy with the enemies. The Coalition did well with them. Story is the current downfall. But they can fix that by focusing less on kait and more on the group and their will to win the fight. But yeah, i don't quite get why you're so displeased with the new enemies despite them largely being the same enemies Gears has had since its birth.

Idk why people hate that idea. It’s been a thing since Gears 2 and Gears 2 is considered the best story in the series by most fans. I liked Gears 5 too. All of the stuff about Niles experimenting on children and the Sires was creepy and fit well into Gears I thought. I think people are just upset that we actually know where they come from now, which makes them a less mysterious enemy

The problem isn't knowing the locust origins. Everything in the games made us think that the locust were an anciet race. (maybe even older than humans, just like brumaks and corpsers 'cause all of them look like prehistoryc creatures) Now, this was my version of the games, a resume of it at least: Humans used imulsion as a fuel, the imulsion was alive and start atacking the locust, locust declare war on humans, humans fight for survival, add the games 1/3 lore and fits perfectly. I would like explain with more details, but english isn't my natural language, sorry if my grammar is bad. Gears 5 plot only fucked everthing up. That's my opinion.

@@j0hn288 Gears 5 didn't ruin any of that , it brought the answers we've been curious about since gears 2 , if you read the collectibles throughout new hope you would known already that the locust weren't an ancient species , if it were to be just an ancient race trying to take over the world that'll be lame & just the same as aliens from the ground that want our brain , gears 2 gave us clues to what the origin of the locust might be and gears 5 answered the clues , gears 5 brings back the dark nature of the game , the dark & Gritty parts of the COG , major what if scenarios , and new history that fits into the story that provides further detail on why the locust were more than just rampaging monster Gears 3 is an answer to 1 Gears 5 is an answer to 2

No it actually doesn't: Ukkon is a Sire. He was actually from the Rise of RAAM comics originally. Sid's story is his interpretation of the events at the New Hope Research Facility. He's actually mentioned in a Gears 5 collectible the very first one after you enter New Hope: it was an intercepted letter from Sid trying to blow the whistle on Niles

That's a pretty weak story. Too much cliche crap, but then there's not much they could do without ruining or changing parts of the lore and canon. Still not a fan of reyna or kait, Gabe is a bit wooden in terms of a main hero, still, i suppose a few more of the blanks were filled in. Hopefully Gears 6 gives us a fun and intriguing next stage in story development and lets us play as multiple characters again both old and new, Judgement style. Anything as long as we don't have to play as the whiney kait for the entire game.

Kind of a shit game no?
