Even still Gearing, with more advanced dual rudders, should be more maneuverable in turning than Fletcher.

The Gearing-class is a slightly lengthened (by 4.3 meters) Allen M. Sumner-class, of which the Yueyang belongs to. The increased length gave them more fuel storage for longer operating range, as well as giving it more space for upgrades and modernization post-war.

If I remember correctly, the old model of the Gearing was wider than it should have been, making it eat full pens where it should have gotten overpenned, even from regular AP.

Gearing gets buffed. Z-52: *Sad Music from Scrubs starts playing* Personally Isometimes feel as if you could put Z-46 to VIII, Z-52 to IX and add the Zerstörer 1945 (Z-52 with an additional turret) and it wouldn't really do much harm for the balance. Though I guess Zerstörer 1945 will end up as the german super DD...

I actually really like both the z-46 and z-52 - super comfortable and fun DDs to play in my opinion; they definitely don't feel like true top tier picks, but they don't SUCK either. could just be me!

@@MaidenofIron27 I play mostly DD's, I stocked a pile of them before I even thought of the German DD line. They are my strongest line of ships that I play now. My clan mates bag me out when I line up the Z-52 for clan battles, they call it the poor mans Daring. I laugh at them when I carry their asses thru a game, the 6km hydro is the winner for it at contesting caps. Plus the torps are not to be snuffed at with a 1.25min reload.

Between Yueyang and Gearing. Yueyang is Allen M Sumner class. Gearing was modified version of Sumner, made them a bit bigger xd

Gearing got lean.

The way he explains how to play is like hearing an awesome teacher of whome you just wait when he's going to take class. It has really helped me improve playing thanks for all the informations man❤❤ Love from 🇮🇳

They also changed the torp tubes. They have different firing angles now and are 360° which makes it much better swapping sides to torp to.

Only the rear set of torpedo tubes are 360 degrees, the front set still have to rotate through the bow when changing sides.

Benson and Fletcher have always been the best in the line to me. With this new Gearing model it may now be one of the most enjoyable DD lines in the game.

I never purchased the Gearing; the Fletcher was just too good and didn't feel like the Gearing was worth cost even for the torp range. This has changed my mind. Thanks PQ.

Gearing was the first T10 DD i unlocked and i havent played it in literal years maybe ill try it out sometime soon

The Central plating (the middle of the ship) is also now 21mms now. im sure thats helpful vs SOME he shells.

I'm hoping eventually to have a premium Gearing. I have the Fletcher, Black, Gearing and F Sherman. Premium T-10 Gearing would be awesome.

I'll probably grind the gearing now but build it for guns. It's supposed to be the next evolution of the Fletcher one of our best gun boats so I want it to have alot of firepower.

I always loved my gearing. It will take some time to get back to it since i reset that line (currently at benson), but i have a feeling i will love it even more. PS: i have gotten sub 60 sec reload on those torps, and its nasty

I really like Jack of all trades DDs like Gearing and Grozowoi. Its the freedom they give you. I dont feel this need to enforce this exact situation my specialized DD is best for. Because im not that good with DDs.

Playing with Marceau is funnier than playing with Sherman. In my opinion, Sherman is another "sit in smoke and use only left click" ship.

I play Gearing as torp DD and being almost on par with Shima enables you for very good team support. And on the torps the 5% doesn't mean much

Did they fix the obscured rate for permanent destruction of the torps tubes? Because that's the only buff that it really needed. Over 250 battles and a 58% w/r. I run it as a full gun boat and it's the torps that need fixing, even if you take all the torp protection skills /modules. They break PERMANENTLY more than any other DD at any tier. I nearly have every DD/tree and play them all multiple times for research bureau.

More than other DDs maybe, but it's nowhere as bad as German BBs torps (not the new ships, the old ones).

I ´m a DD main and the Gearing has been my go to DD for competitive for ever. True, it´s not the best at any one thing, but it´s good at many things. Great concealment, guns good enough to take down a torp based DD and its long range torps hit like a truck.

​@@leebenson4874 thats the thing, US dds are jack of all trades, 2.8s reload 88.7s torp reload while being 73 knots 16 km torps, shows how balanced torpboat/gunboat gearing can be, Im in love with the ship, there are a lot of dds that are "better" in some scenarios like pure dpm or torp power or awareness but gearing is top for me

I like what WG Is doing ,buffing ships to where they are more In line with all the others. I wish WG would make the secondaries on the Massachusetts back to life I dream of that day..

my first ever tier 10 back in the day. loved it back when DDs were kings but now just sits in my port collecting dust. havent touched the ship in years. it was nimble but it was slow and the guns cant hit anything above 6km because of the shitty arcs. torps are insane tho even today. but yes.. ive said it years ago.. this ship is too big and takes too much damage. all shells that hit arm and do dmg to it and as a close range gunner boat you were forced to go in and fight and was screwd. so full torpedo build was the only way. and in time the game changed and the gearing was left behind. glad they buffed but i still dont see it as a great ship anymore

It can still be played very effectively as a gun boat. You just have to pick the right time to fight and when to avoid/disengage. Use the torps to keep stuff back and take cheap shots on DDs over time with safe exit points. You can wear them down. You always can fall back to torp boat mode if you get too low.

If they just add a heal now, no gun changes, no maneuver changes, just add like a standard dd heal, than the gearing will become very competitive, even top tier.

Welp OK: I've hated my Gearing and prefer Fletcher "by far". I'll have to retry Gearing now. I wish they'd do the same for lethargic Halland! Maneuverability is absolutely key to my game play!

@@aluminumati_147 I agree that it's one of the best "tier 10 DDs BUT I'd take an Oster or even an Oland into a tier 10 battle before I'd take a Halland. Same for Gearing, I'd take a Fletcher first. Daring? No I'll stick with Daring over a Jutland (or a Halland) any day. Maneuverability is key to my game "that much"!

Draught is pronounced Draft. It's the British spelling.

Shell velocity and drag needs to be improved to match other similar classes, like Akizuki/Kitikaze, which are very similar in terms of game play. Not saying that it needs to match their shells, just to be closer to that rather than what it is. Torpedo DPM has never been an issue with Fletcher/Gearing.

no, it absolutely does not. The entire American gimmick is good DPM but low effective DPM at long range. Ships like the Austin and Sherman with improved ballistics are very much the exception. The whole point of these ships is that you have a balanced hybrid. A buff to ballistics would definitely make these ships gunboats (given Gearing's HE/AP DPM being really respectably high), which they are not supposed to be.

The Aki and Kiti have 100mm guns with much higher velocity than the 127mm guns on the Gearing anyway. So no, they don't need to be made to be more like them because RL they weren't like them in the first place. If you want a US DD with high rate of fire, go with the F. Sherman.

Akizuki and Kitakaze are nowhere similar to Gearing. Gearing is the best tech tree torpedo boat in the game, she does not need any buffs.

@@ImpendingJoker Lol if the ships were like they were in real life, everything would be completely unbalanced... This is about balance, nothing else, making the ship a few meter smaller makes no difference as it's power crept and completely unbalanced, unless you want to play it like a shimakaze, which it's not very good at as it's a hybrid. Also regarding 100mm vs 125mm, look at the damage/pen, makes absolutely no sense at all...

There is just not one problem with Gearing, its ap fest for all, its sap fest for all. It is too slow, cant compete with most gunboats beside surprising someone. Believe me ill play this ship a lot and its just worst the Dearing at least 50%. Number of radars and 5km-6 km hydros is just overwhelming, not too mention CVs power creep. I would say even with 3 km stealth gearing wouldn't be any better. Its just others being power creeped leaving Gearing on same spot.

I love DD players die early. I usually kill them with my Neptune :D

You need to adjust your play style then. The boat is a sold performer. It's not a boat that can run around shooting everything. It can be a full torp boat but you are limiting your damage potential as the guns are great at getting in cheap dmg on lots of targets from your smoke or over islands. Play it as a cheapshot artist against better gun boats that have a heal.
