Gearhead Field Of Dreams - Antique Car Salvage yard

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This old salvage yard is about 20 miles from where I live. Most of th' cars and trucks here are from th' 40's 50's and 60's. You just dont see old cars in salvage yards anymore, they have mostly been sent to th' crusher for scrap. I could spend all day at a place like this!
Thanks for watchin'.

Look at it another way, These rusted out cars are better to look at than the unsold cars of today sitting on airfields around the world. The old stuff was built with passion and to last a life time

That '53 Cadillac reminded me of trying to hitchhike from the Atlanta area heading toward SC in about the late Fall of 1968 in the very late afternoon, and our standing out in the cold for about an hour, and finally getting a ride up I-85 with 2 bank robbers with large frame, shiny .38 Special revolvers and a back seat just full of loose ammunition. The car was pristine, and looked like a Family Car that had just been liberated from a country funeral home somewhere in Alabama. The guys were great and were anxious to show us and tell us about their revolvers, the huge quantity of ammunition they had, their wads of money, and their big plans, and, to avoid attracting attention, they drove that car at about 100 mph the whole time we were with them (no car was able to pass us), which was about 50 miles further up I-85 than they had planned, because of the great tales they were telling us. Those guys were having the most fun they'd ever had and we got to hear about it, secretly wondering if they'd shoot us after we heard their story. But no, they let us off as they turned down a side road more less back toward Athens and south Georgia, and we got a ride in a Rambler with a drunk Chief Petty officer, who only asked that we get him to a bar in whatever town we were going to, and we did. Later on, I looked for but never found out anything about those bank-robbing guys having done anything bad that was really newsworthy, but whatever they may have done, they were putting it behind them as fast as that '53 Cadillac would go. P.S. That Caddy was a solid as a rock at high speeds - can't think of a modern car that rides as well as it did that fine, Georgia afternoon on I-85 heading East.

Way cool. Great blues there too. I must have become a gear-head. Loving the classics. Started researching conversion vans for cross-country camping. Did that for three years. Heading off to salvage for a Ford spare tire wench/carrier. LONG LIVE THE SALVAGE YARD! LONG LIVE THE RIGHT TO REPAIR!

Thanks for sharing Mr.D'Ray I enjoyed the ride into the past. My fav. Times as a youngster in the 60s and 70s were junkyard hopping with my father and passing that along to my kids in the 80's and 90's. Now its not so easy in 2019 to enjoy those days of wondering through those salvage yards. Everything is gold plated and not affordable....

Brings back lots of memories as I worked on nearly every kind of vehicle you showed, my Dad was one of the worlds great mechanic, having his first vehicle at age 11! Even though working six days a week , he always had mechanic work to do on weekends and Sunday, farming out the tear down work to me when I wasn't in school. He would always make a stop by my room as he left for work, telling me what to get in the shop and to have a transmission or motor ready to pull after supper. Great Dad!

Thank you for what you are doing it brought back many memories. I would suggest that you walk the yard first with a note pad to identify the cars you will hi-light and anytime you see one of those old Chryslers look under the hood; some of them had the first "hemi" in them, highly collectable!

Liked your video. did a nice job of narrating. Junk yards are becoming fewer and fewer. Don't let negative comments discourage you. It's not about 4 door cars, it's really about the yard nowadays and how they're disappearing from the landscape and you're recording their history thank you

Don: Great vid. Ever since I was a little kid (I just turned 60) I've always had this strange fascination with junk cars. I'd love to be able to walk around a junk yard like you just did. I always thought that Corvair pick-up truck was real cool -- way cooler than the van. I share your opinion about that (about '69 or '70) Ford XL convertible. Thanks for letting me stop in and sound off.

Super video! Im from Liverpool England and i love old skool american cars 40s-70s! Its amazing to think there are still so many left but sad to think that most will never end up on the road again! EU rules state in countrys like Sweden, Finland, Norway that once the car is 30 years old it is no longer deemed fit to be on the roads so many classics are crushed or just sat in storage! Thanksfully here in the UK we dont have that problem, the only problem we have over here is the weather! lol

PartingOut is a site where these cars need to be posted as a whole and let all us car lovers request the parts off of them. People who have these cars get tired of looking, confirming & sending pictures to buyers who never follow through. Make an offer that states who, where and what along with a price that you are willing to pay and then we can help you. That is how buyers and sellers deal on PartingOut. I personally have several thousand cars and over 500 pre1980s cars that are parts cars.
