They were superb, thanks Simon! Really pleased with them. I'm currently trying a pair of the Topo Traverse, but haven't had any time off work to get them out on trail yet. Would love to hear another suggestion - but they'll have to be pretty bloomin' good to beat the MTN Racer 3's for me!!
Best wishes, Paul! Have a wonderful journey and thank you for explaining your gear. I'm looking forward to seeing your adventures when you finish. (Don't forget your electrolytes!) I don't know your musical tastes, but here are five retro tunes to add to your playlist. They're upbeat and up-tempo (and get my legs moving when I would otherwise be watching KZread) 1) The Proclaimers - 500 miles (on topic too!) 2) Michael Franti - Say Hey 3) Serena Rider - What I Wouldn't Do 4) Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler - Going Home (theme from the movie Local Hero ~ either the acoustic or the full-on sax version is great) 5) Paul Simon - Graceland (Heck, the whole album!)

Hey Anne, thanks very much! The Proclaimers track is a bit of a classic for long distance hikers for sure - I saw a lot of people using it on their videos of the 500 mile mark on the PCT! I'll definitely be picking up some electrolytes at the same time I get my first gas canister at the Decathlon store in Hendaye!
Very best of luck for your GR11 hike Paul! I can't wait to see the videos on KZread. Have a safe and successful journey. Take it easy, man, As the spanish say "poco a poco, paso a paso" "little by little, step by step".

Thanks Paul, much appreciated! Really looking forward to this one!!
Nice one mate. Will be interested to see what your bag weighs. Maybe do an Insta post with the weight once it's packed? Also nice to see you've got two titanium pots, one for a cup. I was thinking of doing the same thing, as those silicon ones aren't nice to drink out of. Wasn't sure if it was overkill...but if you're doing it, then it's fine. 😂 Also that pack is amazing. I've been eyeing one up. 😬 Have an amazing adventure dude!

I've had a rough work out of weights already, it's looking around the 12kg mark. If I wasn't going to be filming, then I could shave a good 2kg off that total as there's almost 3kg of electricals in there lol. Sigh. Yeah, I used a Sea to Summit X-Cup for a while but found that my coffee went cold pretty quickly. The little titanium cup is a good size and keeps things toasty for a good amount of time. Buy the pack, you won't regret it mate! Just be prepared to wait a good few months for it!
Good luck Paul 👍

Hi Paul, any advice with the comfort degree for the quilt? I´m planning to do my GR11 mixed with HRP, with my partner this summer, we have a EE double quilt -12 C° which we love when we go hiking in the Pyrinees, this winter we did some overnight hikes and stayed at Free Refugios and we know we might stay at some paid or free during the trek (even tho we plan to camp as much as possible). So... first we think -12° C might be a bit overkill, also we think we wont be able to share it in Refugios , so we are looking for some options that wont break the bank, whats your thought? Really enjoying your channel

Hey, thanks for watching and commenting! I've got no experience with quilts, I'm old school and use a sleeping bag! My bag is rated down to -6 degrees Celsius and I found that to be enough. I was using it with a thin silk liner too. On some parts of the HRP, if you're going to be camping at altitude, I'd say you definitely want something rated down to freezing. It's always difficult to advise as everyone sleeps differently, and it will also depend on the mats you are using while camping. I used a Neo Air X-Lite which performed really well, but I also saw quite a few people just using foam mats. I hadn't thought about using a double quilt in Refugios, but yes, you're right - that would be difficult/not possible in some of them for sure. I wish I could recommend a bag or a quilt for you, but I've only ever used my Feathered Friends Hummingbird bag, so unfortunately have no experience of anything else, sorry! I hope you both have an awesome hike and enjoy your time out there!
Six weeks free time - lucky you! I hope you have the best of trips. Just one question - are you bringing a footprint for your tent?

Hey, thanks! A footprint is one of the items that may or may not make it in time before I set off - I've ordered a couple of the Six Moon Designs Polycro sheets. If they don't arrive in time, I'm not going to worry too much, I think I've got some Tyvek laying around somewhere that I could take if needs be.
Nice gear! When you buy from Farpointe do they charge vat or tax when coming to UK? Id like to buy something with this alpha polartec but there is no companies in UK that makes that kind of hoodies etc.

Unfortunately, I can't give you a definitive answer - anything I buy from the USA, I have sent to a friend's USA address. They do a lot of travel for work and so usually bring smaller bits over for me. I assume that the only way you'd avoid any fees upon arrival here in the UK is if the item values declared on the package are under £20 (or $20, I can't remember which) but most companies won't do that because if the package goes missing or is damaged, they can't claim the full amount back from the courier. The taxes and fees are charged by UK Customs when the item arrives at the UK Border, so I don't think Farpointe would be adding them on themselves at the point of sale. It might be worth you looking at a 3rd party shipper, such as Stackry (just do a web search for their name and read up on how they work on their website) I've used them a couple of times and had no problems.
