GE Washer stops mid cycle - water valve test and replace

GE front load washer stops mid cycle and registers error codes e22 and e23. Troubleshoot bad cold water valve and show how to test and replace. Bought washer for $40 because it wasn't working. Very simple fix.

    I cannot express enough my gratitude for your video - thank you. Like other commenters, I too was fleeced for a $115 service visit using the same script - the technician came out, didn’t run any error codes, didn’t check water flow, said “control board” and was out the door in less than 20 minutes. He quoted around $500-600 to get and replace the control board. In desperation, and with ZERO experience fixing appliances, I came to KZread and online forums. I found your video, followed your steps, ordered the part for under $25, and just replaced the part a few minutes ago. The washing machine is running like a top. I can’t believe I fixed it. (For others, my machine did not give E22 or E23 error codes, but the machine’s symptoms were consistent with that error). Sir, you are awesome. You saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars (I was looking for new washers in a panic before finding this video). Thank you again.

    Great story! Thanks for you comment. So glad it worked out for you. I think too many people in repair are just incompetent and would rather throw parts at a problem than spend the time to diagnose and fix it properly. It's a shame. When you find technicians that seem to enjoy the diagnostics and actually discovering root causes, those are the good ones

    This is so helpful! Your video is awesome! Thank you so much. I have that exact model with the exact problem with the cold water trickling out. I just ordered the valve kit coming Friday. In 2019 I googled how to get the error codes, I got E22 & E23. It looked like a very easy fix. I called a local appliance repair shop and the guy refused the check the error codes then he just said the control board needs to be replaced parts & labor $300 - $400. I was so aggravated by my experience I let it go until recently. I called GE Care I figured they would be better than a local shop (big big mistake) They told me the tech would arrive between 11 and 3 he showed up at 4:30 he allegedly didn’t know how to retrieve the error codes. I didn’t have my notes from before thinking GE repair would know how to do this. All he did was turn on the washer on Hot and waited 5 minutes then went back out into his truck for 15 minutes, he came back in and said it’s most likely the control board ($400 - $500) then he handed me a bill for $120 service charge. I gave them my credit card but I already called CC company to dispute it. I wouldn’t mind paying the service charge for them to come out and diagnose the problem and paying to have then come back with the parts. These people are just out to rip everyone off. It’s sickening.

    Thanks! Unfortunately, I hear this a lot. In my experience it's incompetence and poor training more than an intent to rip people off. Either way, consumers end up paying way too much for most repairs.

    I have this same model with similar problem but I'm getting plenty of water flow through the dispenser. But, it's only flowing for about 7 seconds then stops. The unit will do nothing for the next 3 minutes and then what sounds like a pump will turn on and I can hear water circulating through the machine but none filling the tub nor flowing through the dispenser. It'll run for about 4 minutes, stop and then it'll pause. I've run diagnostic as you showed here but no codes appear.

    I have an LG front loader. The washer started shutting down randomly with a PF code on the screen. It would start up, lock the door and just begin the cycle and then shut down. The shut down interval has become shorter now. I have continuity over the shut off valves. Nothing looks burnt under the silicone on the main control board. I have no idea where to start.

    I noticed that on your hot valve you have the blue/neutral on the left side but on your cold valves you have the neutrals on the right. Wont this cause the problem to re-emerge unless the wiring diagram says thats how its supposed to go?

    Hey Anything Mechanical, I have a similar model maybe newer or higher model. mine suddenly stopped during a wash with blinking Play/Pause start button. It will only now drain mode as normal if you pause a wash. So it doesn't start a cycle. It doesn't spin nor spray water. Just go straight to pause mode it locks drain then unlock with a blinking Start button. Any prediction what the problem? Machine is in good condition like new never abuse it. No burning smells. The cheap power & start button was broken inside that holds it. I glue it back put it back still same problem.

  • @anythingmechanical3399

    @anythingmechanical3399

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Sherri, as I mention in the video the washer allows 8 minutes to fill up before it drains the water and registers an e22. Mine wasn't filling up in that time because the solenoid wasn't letting enough water in. If you have plenty of water coming in, I would guess that you have something wrong with your diaphragm pressure switch or the tube leading to it. This device lets your washer know when it is full. If there's a leak in the tube or the diaphragm the washer will just keep filling until it times out, never recognizing that it's full.

    E31 is for slow draining. I would start with that and check the filter. There is usually a filter port down near the bottom you can unscrew and remove. You might just find something like a sock got caught in there and interferes with draining. Beware, though, if it is clogged a bunch of water might drain out when you pull the filter. Have a bucket ready.

    I have almost thee same exact washer . However, I tried pushing the same sequence of buttons to get it into diagnostic codes and No luck. Someone put this washer near a dumpster . I looked at it up and down. It looked almost brand spanking new. Seeing I do commercial HVAC and read wiring schematics I took a chance. I loaded it up in my work van and brought it home. The control panel powers up and goes through all of its countdowns but NOTHING physically is working. I looked inside the cabinet for wiring diagrams but Someone must of beat me to it ! Lol. So......I am gonna call G.E tomorrow and " hopefully" I can get a copy of the schematics and owners manual. Do you work on these as a hobby and to make some money ? Just curious. Anyway, thanks for reading my comments .
