Ғылым және технология

I discuss MMC, LMC and RFS concepts as they apply to the geometric tolerances and to datum references.

Hi Dean, thank you so much for making this video possible for us. I am always curious to know if it is the chief reason for some engines' valves start to leak combustion or piston rings start to not functions properly. Can we say that it would be misused or overused of MMC in main datums?

At 7:00, you said as the hole gets smaller, you get less tolerance (for LMC). However, shouldn't it be the other way round? If the hole gets gets smaller, you gain more tolerable instead?

Great explanation, Thanks for the video. I'm a great fan of your videos.I need to know how do you select the value 0.003 cylinderical tol, do we imagin..? or need to take from any chart ?. Please let me know. Also, could you please make video of starting to the end of completion of GD&T applied to any 2 mating parts with tol values taken from where, why & how.

Can you please provide a practical example of applying LMC

Hello Dean, on your last example (explaining the mmb), you used position geometrical symbol for the center hole. I assume we need some basic dimensions from Datum B to show exact position of that hole, is that true? Overall if you were to fully dimension that part, how would you indicate position of the center hole?

Hi, great question. Basic dimensions are not necessary for this configuration. When inspecting, the datum axis “B” is considered the “zero”, and any deviation of the center hole feature is relative to the datum axis.

pretty thorough, still don't get the point of placing the MMB/LMB symbols as this is implied by providing the tolerance zone/vc, it looks to me as this is only an inspection procedure recommendation, still seems to make it more confusing unless there are additional reasons for it.

Hello Dean.. Thanks for the video.. Was really easy to understand.. Just have a query regarding the application of these modifiers.. I understand that MMC modifier is used for clearance holes.. Just need an idea about when to go for RFS.. Since it's more restrictive, is it safe to say that whenever the functionality is really close ie press fit or slide fit etc.. We should by default choose RFS method?? I mean using RFS condition for the tolerance value as well as the datum.. Just need your insights

Hi, thank you for the comment and question. I will address it in a video very soon. The short answer is: use MMC for clearance hole application where the feature is not locating other features in the tolerance stackup. For features that do locate other features, use RFS. For features that mate to air, use RFS with a large position tolerance.

Hi Dean, I read somewhere that gaging for RFS and LMC is more expensive than MMC, but there was no explanation, first of all, did I understood this correctly, if yes, second why is that the case? Also, can you explain why it is called unrelated actual mating envelope? Thanks in advance.
