    Doing that is not actually a bad thing... You can make notes and then learn off these notes by covering them and trying to blurt as much as you can remember. Re-writing in that way, for me at least, is effective but it's different for everyone.

    @@tahmidhossan9757 yeah, I’ve been revising with that method since year 7 and I’m hesitant on whether I should change my method of revision because in my opinion, I don’t see me being able to learn topics by not writing stuff down, that’s why I don’t like doing stuff like quizlet because I don’t feel productive/ I don’t actually feel like I’m learning when what I’m doing is not in physical form

  • @aryanagrawal1782

    @aryanagrawal1782

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@SparkMediaProduction I'm in Year 13, and I've found that I learn similarly to you (need notes to do well). I made comprehensive notes at GCSE (for triple science and comp sci at least) using a combination of the CGP guides, kerboodle textbooks and ABOVE ALL the specification. If you want to avoid the 'copying the textbook', I suggest keeping a printout of the spec or always pulling it up when making notes - it lets you know exactly what the textbooks may have missed or more likely the unnecessary details it includes. Keep in mind this 'unnecessary stuff' is what fills a surprising amount of the kerboodle textbook. Tbh, I disagree with the idea that you shouldn't make personal notes - be realistic, most of us in class are half taking in concepts - we spend most of the time scribbling down stuff rather than understanding it. Those notes you take in class will mean little to you even if you stare at them at home - further research is needed to make it sink in unless your teachers are exceptional or you are a genius. Still, taking the time to tune your class notes according to the spec might be a better compromise if you don't like the idea of starting from scratch. For context, I got straight 8's and 9's at GCSE, with 9's in all the sciences, and I'm predicted 3 A*s at A level (Maths chem bio). Edit: Make sure you hand write ALL your notes - it is scientifically proven that hand written notes are more effective for long term memory and exam performance.

Bio is just mainly having to memorise a whole lot which is hard whilst chem is really confusing me so much especially the moles part. I find maths to be the easiest subject as I understand it fully. But damn.

    @@jessy4458 what always helped me was speaking out loud. Pretend you are a teacher and speak the information. Doing past papers and exam questions is always v good. Don’t worry if u don’t think it’s not all going in. COLOUR as well don’t write in black or blue pen if u can, your mind remembers colour more. Ask others to quiz and just make sure for the exam you are prepared as u can be. Just try your best. Another tip especially for essay subjects (English) it’s always good to make it seem like you know what your saying so don’t leave a question blank EVER and a bit of guessing/ waffling won’t go a miss if you are unsure. Hope that helped, good luck.

    How I revise or learn new content: *Read the objectives* *Read through content* *Rather than taking notes i write questions* *Upon finishing writing all the questions, i test myself (implementing active recall)* *Complete the questions provided* and chill! So it would look something like this Text : London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. At its centre stand the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic ‘Big Ben’ clock tower and Westminster Abbey, site of British monarch coronations. Across the Thames River, the London Eye observation wheel provides panoramic views of the South Bank cultural complex, and the entire city. My notes: What is London the capital of? What are the 3 main features at the centre of London? What is across the river Thames? What does the london eye provide a panoramic view of?

    I just started school and i’m really studying , studying harder than i’ve every studied before. It’s actually rewarding, which surprised me. It feels good to be doing hard work. and then when I go back on past exercises, they become easy which surprised me a lot more. especially in maths. :D I summarise my lessons on a sort of Queue card, and it helps me learn. Because the things I write in my notebook at school is a lot and I need to break it down to understand it and learn it

    I’m also sitting mocks in January. I do believe that everyone has their own way of revisions. If it works for you, then it’s not ‘wrong’. Personally, I take notes to recap the topic, then I do Seneca to recap further, before testing the knowledge with Flashcards and past paper questions. That works for me, and everyone has their own way.

    Udoka, I would disagree about not making extra notes. There's a lot more information you can find in CGP books, revision guides, Bitesize etc. I would only say oversimplify as much as possible and spend as little time on them but cover the content properly. Don't waste precious time making them look aesthetic because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter as long as they're effective. After that, usually you should move on to practice papers and just understand how to apply the topic.

    I absolutely second this, I'm gonna paste an earlier comment of mine for any Y10's/11's/12's debating whether they should make extra notes. I'm in Year 13, and I've found that I need notes to do well. Keep in mind this 'unnecessary stuff' is what fills a surprising amount of the Kerboodle textbook - there is no harm in learning it but it does make note making more tedious and undesirable in general.

    Listening helps me so much. When I just read off a page I can’t remember at all, but being told it, everything just sinks in. When I learn something I either ask my teacher to explain it to me like a story, or my friends, or I even record myself doing a storytelling of the information. I did that for my biology mock, I remembered everything. When I got into that exam hall, all the questions were things I had revised and knew like the back of my hand. Everyone has different learning methods. So if you struggle with reading-learning, you should definitely try other formats.

    Anyone else hoping that they keep our exams going in the summer? I just know I'm going to do better in the real exams than in the mocks. Lit had like 8 weeks to revise everything from year 7, try learn the shiz we missed when were off for 6 months and try learn the stuff we were supposed to be doing in year 11 anyways 😂😂 its a pisstake x

    Yeah same I really want to do the real exams and have time to properly revise. Especially because there is some information I want to cover for GCSEs before I start a levels to at least have a foundation

    @@udokafintelmann6803 God yeah, I've had a tough time revising recently anyways due to a lack of desk so that's been awful. Luckily got one this past weekend so I have some hope for the rest of mocks these next 2 weeks. Thank you so much for the video btw, it really has helped and it's rather relieving to get revision tips from someone going through the same stress - shows that the revision tips may actually help x

    How are you finding everything with the corona situation? I know some people are overwhelmed with all the extra stress we have to go through, having to prepare oursleves for the worst x

    Done my GCSEs via Ali Abdaal vids etc and this is a great vid that is really useful. Spaced repetition and active recall = 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
