GCR Autumn Steam Gala | Loco and signalling issues.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In part 2, witness the breakdown of the GCR Autumn Gala timetables, with failures, timetable changes and locomotive problems. Just to be absolutely clear, as I've had many quite rude comments on this video, I might seem irritated, or that I'm being overly rude about these events, but in reality, I applaud how the railway sorted everything out. Featuring 7714 and 2999 'Lady of legend' and a lot of wheelslip from 6988 'Swithland Hall'!
I hope you enjoy the video!
Please consider subscribing if you like what you see. A thumbs up is greatly appreciated, as well as any comments, which I will do my best to reply to every last one!

    I see myself a few times in this video, someone from church told me I was in a video from this gala filming the 8F 48305. The trains on this day were well late but at least all the volunteers managed to try the best to put thing right. :)

    I was there next to the Hall when it did that huge slip, so much so it's partially diveted the rails.

    i was on the double headed Standard 2's train which took an hour in total to get to Leicester, then another hour to get back to Quorn, where i bailed as it was 1645 by that point, and as you said in your video the timetable was shot, original plan was to do another trip when 78018&9 had got back to Loughborough. It was a very unseasonably warm day, which didn't make it any more comfortable on the Mk1's either. Still had a good day even though i had camera failure on my main dslr (good job i kept the older one)

    Oh woah so I made a good decision to bail at Rothley then! Yeah now you mention it it was unexpectedly hot for the time of year! Did you end up doing anything else after you got to Loughborough? Thank you for watching!

    I have to add that this is very rear occasion for the GCR to have the timetable go wrong in a major way because of the double track it’s normally easy to pick things back up tbh

    Sometimes things don’t go to plan! On that day, I came across a classic Autumnal difficulty with wheel slip - in this case on the Watercress: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIGJm8qsfc3Jmbw.html One of the timetabled ones ended up being around half an hour late, with one or two others cancelled and the odd extra added as they went along.

    What were the locomotive problems then?

  • @TheGreatWesternGuy

    So, the pannier tank was meant to do an express (non-stop run) though Quorn and Woodhouse and Rothley, ending up at Leicester North, but ended up sitting outside Quorn for about half an hour. It isn't confirmed what the issue was, but rumour among the staff was the loco suffered a steam leak and therefore lost excessive boiler pressure, owing to the sudden stop and the quite brisk departure.

  • @MaximumPressureSteam

    @TheGreatWesternGuy Yeah, I wondered what had happened. I managed to chase it from Woodthorpe to Kinchley Lane, which was unexpected!

    @@TheGreatWesternGuy I would suspect that the pannier was stopped due to aformentioned signaling issues and not any form of steam leak.

  • @TheGreatWesternGuy

    @TheGreatWesternGuy

    9 ай бұрын

    @maghost_rider5698 that might be a possibility. However, everything was on time apart from that, and the signal was down for 20 minutes, so it had permission to move.

    I’m guessing heritage railways either can’t afford turntables, or there isn’t enough room for them, or both.

  • @TheGreatWesternGuy

    @TheGreatWesternGuy

    For the vast majority of them, yes. However the Great Central has one at Quorn and Woodhouse, which isn't as convenient as having one at the end of the line. To add to this, it is right at the back of a goods yard, so access is quite difficult.

    The only one I’m aware of that can turn (most locos) at both ends is the West Somerset, with a turntable at Minehead and the triangle at Norton Fitzwarren. The latter is useful for turning visiting steam hauled specials locos, while the special is often taken on to Minehead with one or two local locos.

    I'm sure if you were in the mangers shoes during the event you'd feel the huge pressure to keep the trains moving rather then complain on a petty video. Can't bash a railway for trying their hardest to make the day run as smoothly as they physically can.
