GCHQ Union Ban 40th Anniversary - BBC Points West - 26th January 2024

This week marks 40 years since staff at GCHQ in Cheltenham were told by the Government to give up their union rights or face being sacked. Trade unions said the ban was a breach of civil liberties and 14 workers lost their jobs leading to mass protests. Rights were restored in 1997 and tomorrow a rally will be held in Cheltenham to commemorate the campaign. Our Gloucestershire reporter, Steve Knibbs, has been to meet the man who was the last to be sacked for holding on to his union membership…
