Gayathri Mantra : BSG Blood & Chrome Final Scene

The coolest version of the Gayathri Mantra imho. Ofcourse, there is certainly a metre and way one chants the Gayathri, but watching this always brings a broad grin and means a lot to me in the context of launching/lock&load/getting into the thick of it.
And I'm a big BSG fan and Blood and Chrome was really enjoyed and I was thrilled at this ending.

They were planning on it, but they didnt becasue Blood and Chrome didnt get good ratings at the time, although this was due to poor circumstances and not the quality of the movie. Machinima at the time was undergoing some backlash and that let to boycotting which effected Blood and Chrome's reception.

QuatroDoesGood Actually it was due to Caprica's low ratings during season 1 and allegedly too many pirated copies of "The Plan".......that's when they decided to cancel Blood and Chrome and salvage the pilot footage into it's own special movie,. It didn't help that they cut it into tiny bits to be shown on Machinima's KZread without credits, only to conveniently take it all down after it finally aired on TV and the extended edition released on DVD. To fair though the last few Episodes of Caprica alongeside Blood & Chrome do make an excellent prequel miniseries to the 2004 miniseries and it's sequel seasons that take place after. :)

I know that this was supposedly a precursor to the fall of the colonies, but why give a nod to the original BSG Viper and not give it or any of the reimagined Vipers Turbo Mode? Also not officially in canon, the PS2 game BSG Vipers even had jump capability, but an an enormous cost in Tylium fuel. Seems like lazy writing, budget cuts, and the technological regression used in the plot line doomed this amazing fighter to never show it's full abilities. And for those not familiar with the original BSG, the Vipers had a turbo mode similar to an aircraft afterburner that when a button on the stick was pushed, the engines were flooded with fuel and it nearly tripled the thrust and speed the Viper could achieve. In fact in the old BSG, Starbuck's Viper was equipped with boosters and an AI called Cora and was capable of near light speed on its own power albeit it had to sacrifice it's laser cannons and rely on extreme speed to survive.

I admit the dropping in *looks* cooler but honestly, sliding them in and out is more practical and keeps with both the original and reimagined series. Most everything else about B&C was awesome though.

@@Knuspermonster According to BSG: Deadlock, the Mk I Jupiter had three support arms for its flight pods, later having one removed as part of the Mk II upgrade that gave the Jupiters the frame they'd have until the fall of the Twelve Colonies, meaning that the Galactica shown in B&C has already received its Mk II upgrade (which isn't surprising given that it was the first to be refitted after being heavily damaged by an atmospheric reentry and slamming into the Caprican ocean). What's strange is that none of the systems shown in B&C were present in the RDM show, meaning the Galactica would've regressed back to its older flight pod interior design and swapped out its entire wing of Mk III Vipers for Mk IIs before Operation Raptor Talon (which was the final operation before the end of the First Cylon War). Personally, while B&C was visually spectacular, it came into conflict a lot with the established canon of the RDM BSG universe.

This must be the infamous Viper MKIII. It was introduced near the end of the Cylon War. But because of limited resources, the CNP hack (Thanks to Gaius Baltar, it's creator) and it's considerable expense, it was limited to exceptional pilots and saw a limited deployment throughout the fleet. I can see why they gave William Adama a MKIII. He basically saved the Colonies and took on the name the good Captain game him "Husker". A remarkable fighter, in many ways far better than the MKII and it was the Viper MKIII that led to the development of the highly advanced Viper MKVII.

  • @Mobius_118

    @Mobius_118

    7 ай бұрын

The Viper Mk III was retired long before the CNP was a thing (the fact that Mk IIs still existed by the time of the Second Cylon War was due to a wing of them being retired aboard the Galactica). It should also be noted that they were most likely retired due to increased operating costs (which included the need to widen all Battlestars' existing launch tubes given that the Mk III had a larger profile than the Mk II and even the Mk VII). And they would've been retired/mothballed before the end of the First Cylon War given that every Viper wing that participated in Operation Raptor Talon was comprised of Mk IIs. On an IRL design note, the only designs that stayed true to the RDM series here was the Valkyrie class Battlestars and sort of with the Jupiters (though they gave them an unnecessary amount of firepower). The Vipers, Raptors, hell even the Cylons deviated heavily from what the RDM series had established those looked like during the First Cylon War (with the Cylons being more in line with what we saw in Caprica rather than what we saw in BSG: Razor).

Strangely, yes. Even though Husker is shown in Razor to be flying a Mk-2 two years later. Perhaps this was originally supposed to be a Mk-1? Idk, BaC is sometimes quirky like that. Still wish it was a full series.

series only didn't happen because the web release of which they were basing launching a TV show on happened with machinima during a time when machinima was under heavy criticism even some boycotting of them. and the series was well liked but under advertised. syfy threw everything against this coming out as a show and they succeeded in stopping it's production.

    Soooo much Lens Flare.....

  • @beangrff

There was such a disconnect between the composer and the VFX team. Bear knew what this was supposed to be, every track hearkened back to the series we loved. Using Adama's theme, using the TOS theme and hints of the miniseries theme to represent Galactica. Meanwhile, the VFX team was trying to change everything. These Mark III Vipers look weird and ugly. The hanger deck was just wrong. There's JJ Abrams lens flare everywhere. The Galactica herself looked pretty good but I'm in a minority who thought all the changes weren't for the best--the extra armor made her hull look too sleek and Star Trek like, the extra turrets looked like copy and paste jobs or bits of leggos clipped onto the old girl.

The Mark III isn’t an issue, the issue is exclusively with the hanger redesign. It would be excusable if this was the Battlestar Atlantia, or another ship that wasn’t a Jupiter Class. I really hate how they tripled Galactica’s armaments and didn’t have the ship fight. I could live with the Lenses flares since it’s there to invoke this ship is in her prime.

BSG wasn't canned..the writers deliberatly had a view of ending it when they did from the start. They didn't want the show to get to the stage where it felt tired. Caprica however...

Their budget was a good 1/3 smaller than the TV show's budget. They had 2 million to work with, and they didn't want to rebuild the sets, as it costs money. It was cheaper to remake it through CGI, and use forced perspective and anamorphic lens flares to partially conceal the fact that it was all computer made.

That's because they are. Well, the late 70s. Everything in the First War pays homage to Battlestar Galactica, TOS. That show was first aired in 1978.

Blood and Chrome screwed with so much continuity. - Why is he flying a Mk3, when he's meant to be flying a two? - Whats with all the lifts and ping whizzers and unnecessary garbage scenery that wouldn't even fit in the flight pods? - Why do the cylons not even look close to being cylons? There's more, but I honestly can't be bothered raising it!

While we're on this topic; why were Valkyrie class battlestars present in the Ghost fleet when they wouldn't be invented for another 20ish years? Why did they wreck the Raptor design to add a tailgunner position?

@@TheJhouston because the producers were lazy or broken on CGI budget and just threwn there whatever.. im actually surprised we didnt saw a Mercury class.. for me thats not a Valkyrie type.. at best something similary shaped and a precursor but not the actual ship type.. and the Valkyrie mentioned in B&C is another battlestar older that was probably scraped/lost and the one Adama commands is a newer ship with same name (same as the Battlestar Columbia wich we knew was destroyed at the last battle of the war but 40 years later there is another Columbia)

  • @Mobius_118

@@sparrowlt It's possible that the Valkyrie-class was developed during the First Cylon War and was effective enough to warrant additional refits and upgrades that allowed it to stay in service in the 40 years after. Secondarily, they most likely named a newer Battlestar (most likely a Mercury) Columbia. Either that or they built another Jupiter. There was even planned to be a Mercury-Class Galactica to replace the Jupiter version after it had been retired.
