He was Armenian! Interesting! There's a subway station in São Paulo, Brazil, called Armenia Station. Don't know much about the culture but love the food!

Le donne armene sono fra le più belle del mondo come le loro vicine georgiane. Sono tante cose belle da sapere su Armenia. Io non sono armena ma li ammiro.

Le plus grand, je ne sais pas, mais très doué c'est sûr ! ses musiques de ballets sont superbes et méritent d'être plus connues du grand public qu'elles ne le sont ! Mais Arte est une chaîne "orientée" d'où tout ce qui vient d'Arménie est exclu !!

​@@dzovinarmelkonian2861Je ne pense pas que Arte soit anti Arménienne, c'est plutôt la rareté des productions en occident de certaines œuvres qui en explique l'absence sur les chaînes spécialisées (j’ai quand même vu un Tsar Saltan sur Mezzo), c'est vrai de tous le opéras des pays slaves hormis peut-être Boris Goudounov alors que certains mériteraient d'être aussi connus que des opéras italiens (que j’apprécie également) un peu trop "rabâchés" dans nos maisons d'opéra. En France, c'est souvent la province qui a plus d'audace pour la production d’œuvres rares.

Underrated. Khachaturian was by far one of the greatest composers of his time.

Beautiful music and ballet. Khachaturian has powerful music! I recommend watching "Spartacus", (with the Bolshoi ballet esp., though there are other versions- the Australian has one as well, though quite different choreography). I esp. like the Bolshoi version with V. Vasiliev as Spartacus and Maris Liepa as Crassus. A later version starring Irek Moukhamedov is breakthtaking also. DARN IT!!! THE SABER DANCE ONLY COMES AT THE END!!! I'm kidding, I love this ballet, and I've always loved Maestro Khachaturian's music!

This is at the Mariiansky in St Petersburg! I went there in 2007! The Russians love ballet! I could not imagine a more knowledgeable audience! Seeing ballet in this theatre is a great honour! I treasure that night!

Un compositeur qui malheureusement n'a pas la place qu'il mériterait dans le panthéon de la musique dite classique. Cette œuvre le prouve encore une fois et quelle merveille ce ballet qui mêle une chorégraphie classique et des danses originales se référant au foklore comme la célèbre danse du sabre magistralement interprétée.

An excellent 20th century ballet by the great Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian. While the Sabre Dance may be the most instantly recognizable part, my favorite section has always been the wonderfully melancholy Adagio, (starting at 25:38 in this video). I've loved it since I was a kid and first heard it used to great effect in the classic Stanley Kubrick film 2001: A Space Odyssey. It evokes both a pensive yet surprisingly relaxing feeling in my soul, and the intertwining melodic counterpoints are simply beautiful.

Maybe you will wish to say ballet based on an Armenian story, as ballet is international by itself.

Beautifully performed . There are lots of changes to the choreography. I still like the original the most. I have a copy. It is in black and white. But the atmosphere is amazing and the timing superb.
