Gautam Baid with Guy Spier: The Important Lessons On Compounding & Finding Your Passion.

Gautam Baid, CFA, is the author of the international best-seller The Joys of Compounding. He is also the Founding Creator at Chapter, a revolutionary learning platform. Previously, Gautam served as a portfolio manager at an SEC-registered investment advisor based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mr. Baid talks to me about growing up in India, moving to the United States, changing careers, and how he found his calling in life. He also shares his future projects and important lessons on compounding.
Like me he's a fan of Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, William Green and Mohnish Pabrai.

Mr. Spier is an absolutely high quality person. The way he conducts himself throughout the interview session is a lesson in itself.

With maturity, comes calm. I could sense that calm in the way Guy listens patiently to Gautam and waits for him to complete his thoughts. My Value Bomb takeaway: Listening in any conversation is the most powerful attribute one can have and it pays back tremendously. Hats off Guy! You always have something to teach.

Did he just say he wasn’t happy working those “14-15 hours a day?” I mean obviously…there’s nothing you can do for 15 hours a day that makes you happy unless it’s rotating hard drugs. And even that will only last a month or two before it gets ugly… Balance is key. I hope people don’t listen to this and think this is what you need to do to succeed. It’s not. You don’t need to work any more than 8 hours a day, if you make those hours count. And if you’re truly passionate, you’ll be able to work more. But working 2/3 of the day, every day, is not healthy OR optimal.
