Gauja National Park First Impressions | Latvia Travel Guide What to Eat, See and Do 2021 4K

I spent an outdoorsy weekend in Gauja National Park, which is one of the biggest in Latvia. We hiked to Paradise Hill, which has some of the breathtaking panoramic views on the Gauja river valley below. We also took gazillion pictures of the Turaida Castle, which you could see from this viewing platform as well.
We also flew a drone around gorgeous Sigulda New Castle and drank coffee next to the Red Stone Cliffs (named Kuku Cliffs) at sunrise.
This Trip, as short as it was, truly made me proud of the time I've spent in Latvia and I know for a fact that I will come back for more.

This was just fantastic, Polly! I'm from Latvia and I recently discovered you through one of your Instagram reels. I must say - I've been following your journey ever since and so far, you've not only made Latvia more beautiful in my eyes, but it's almost like through your enthusiasm I've had the opportunity to look at it from the eyes of a foreigner, which has been nothing but refreshing and fascinating! 🤗 Thank you for showing me sides of our country that even I had never seen before and thank you for filling me with so much warmth and positive energy every time I see your lovely content! ☀️ I hope you and J will both have even more wonderful adventures here in Latvia, and I already cannot wait to see more of your amazing content! 🤗 Stay safe guys

Welcome! We have many great places to visit and enjoy in Latvia, even within Gauja National Parks. Park is diverse and with much more beautiful cliffs, than tourists used to visit.

Totally agree. We were completely mesmerised by the beauty of the landscape! I wish we did the kayaking trip along the Gauja river, that looked so much fun.

Funny you say that Sigulda look slike set a fantasy movie, while next doors is the village of Ligatne, that has around 300 man made caves that local have used as anything from morgue to starage unit for pickled vegies and jams. Someone even has home wine shop in one of those caves. Can't get more fantasy that that

Cheers Andrew. It's funny to think that it has taken a national lockdown for me to start exploring my backyard and it turned out pretty great!

You should have walked some more difficult trails around the Paradise Hill - there are a lot of steps and trails leading to some cool caves and nice views.

Also, I would recommend you to visit Salaspils concentration camp, it is one of my favorite places in Latvia, just 30 minute ride from Riga.

Thank you very much Hania! This national park has completely exceeded our expectations! Re camera- haaa it’s a million dollar question right? Well I would say that start with like a £300 one, you wouldn’t know what you like/need as a photographer until you had your first camera and taken loads of pictures with it. So go for super basic one and get into habit to shoot with it. Photography is mostly about lighting, framing, looking for compositions, you can start training your eye to see all of this with any camera. Your phone ( if you have camera there) might be a good place to start.
