We adopted a pregnant cat named Tessa, a longhaired British breed. Tessa gave birth to three kittens of different colors. Then we found an abandoned kitten in the park and named him Kiki because he looked a lot like a cat girl named Kiki. A gray cat named Bonya with three kittens Chris, Сoсo, Сuсu and now they also live with us.

@sleetkitten; you said so yourself that Gatsby showed signs of weight loss right away. This was the time you should have taken him to the veterinarian for a checkup. Placing yourself in the picture kissing Gatsby only proves you expected his demise😠. He needed medical attention, and you denied him that care 🖕. The mama cat was attentive & feeding her kitten and did not reject Gatsby in anyway. That means the kitten had a fighting chance to survive, but you're in-attentiveness caused this to happen. You should be ashamed of yourself!

What a touching and sad story about baby Gatsby! He seemed to willingly struggle for his life but his struggle failed eventually. I wish that you brought him to the veterinarian right at the beginning when you had noticed his weakness, abnormal breathing, and continuous weight loss comparing to his siblings. A much earlier visit to the veterinarian could probably have saved this adorable kitten's life. May little Gatsby rest in peace!

Goodbye My Darling Kitten Gatsby. All of us at the KZread channel who watched you struggle to survive in the course of your two very painful weeks of your short and precious baby kitten life have been devastatingly heart broken at your having left us. You were a darling angel when you were born, a darling angel in the two weeks of your short but precious little life, and a darling angel when you left us all to go to Heaven to be with God forever and ever. God, in HIS divine mercy, has taken away all your pain and suffering during those terrible 16 days. One day we will all see your beautiful and cuddly baby face and caress you with our hugs and kisses, and there will then be no more tears to shed because you are now a baby kitten angel in Heaven living the eternal life of joy and happiness that was rightly meant for you on planet earth. Goodbye My Darling Gatsby till we all meet you at Heaven's Gate.

Perhaps a vet visit on day 3 would have made a world of difference. I have bottle fed a baby like this. And I don't think they were paying attention to how often he spit out the milk. He didn't take that milk enthusiastically. I doubt their skills. Are they breeders? And they handled him too much. Little ones should be left alone with their mother. I could always be wrong.

EDITTED AT THE END. Watching this and knowing what I do about kitties I think he didn't have a heart that was working right... the fast breathing is classic sign of CHF I think momma knew as well she appears in the videos to be not tending him as much as the others. Which is NOT a slap tp owners or momma kitty. Sadly it is nature and we humans are NOT gods we cannot change and fix everything even though we fight like hell to. Much love to momma, babies, and their humans. I noticed he kept crawling away, and they even remarked on this. If a cat ever seperates themselves from a group (or clouder as a group of cats are called) and does it regularly, get them checked out. Cats only remove themselves like this when they are sick and going down hill. As a person who works with kitties, dogs and horses and has for many many years I have learned tells like this from vets, observations and other pet parents telling the same stories over and over.

Cosa dire?

When you noticed the baby doing more sleeping, is When you should have made him warmer and supplemented with kitten infant formula. (Glad to see you did) My baby girl was 10 to 12 days premature and the vet was amazed by what I did to keep her alive. The room was kept warm, and she was when not being fed by mumma kitty kept on my chest with a heated blanket on top of her, my baby girl Beamer would have been 80 to 90 grams, Beamer Marie at 4 months old was 1.6 kilo's For next time, a handy tip. Boil your kettle and place a hand towel on the side and then put kitten in your chest and warm the baby up (with the heated towel) and keep repeating until the baby is warm enough to feed. As I noticed poor little Gatsby couldn't knead boobie well (use your fingers to help knead boobie for them (I did this to help my baby survive) Beamer Marie is now 10 months old.

Cats and kittens regular body temp is around 38⁰ to 39⁰ Human body temp is around 37⁰ This is why you heat the blankets and keep them in a warm room. My little girl Beamer Marie still sleeps in bed with me, and she has her dressing gown that she kneads while being patted to sleep.

This is exactly what I have saying, in case you have read my responses in this group. There is absolutely no substitute for immediate medical attention for a baby kitten, or for any animal, baby or adult, for that matter, when emergency situations call for. The owner parents of baby kitten Gatsby miserably failed in their responsibility to rush baby kitten Gatsby to the vet for immediate medical diagnostic and treatment. Why are we assuming that all babies will be born as healthy babies. Complications do arise at birth and after birth and their medical attention needs to be immediately addressed. People who breed animals or those who, out of sheer love, adopt animals, both young and old, to give them a forever home, need to accept responsibility for caring and medicating the animals when situations arise. Just as we humans love and care for our own species through adequate medical attention when situations demands, so should our human intellect and human moral values dictate our responses towards innocent and medically suffering animals. Failing to do so is absolute gross human negligence, just as was the case with baby kitten Gatsby's owner parents. If finance is a problem, then there are indeed many animal vet care centers offering to share the burden of financial expenses. People need to realize the responsibility of maintaining pets and not to behave irresponsibly as the owner parents of baby kitten Gatsby did. It was the negligence of baby kitten Gatsby's parents that resulted in this innocent baby kitten's death. Baby kitten Gatsby would have been alive and kicking today, and in the pink of health had his owner parents rushed him to the vet care clinic for immediate medical attention. This is what annoys me and those who love baby kittens and animals in general. The poor baby kitten was shamelessly neglected by his human owner parents at the most crucial hour of urgent medical treatment. It is so very heart breaking for all of us cat and kitten owners to watch baby kitten Gatsby succumb to his neglectfully untreated disease, whatever the disease might have been. Shame on the owner parents for baby kitten Gatsby's death last week.

But nature always has a design, even the littlest has it ingrained into their genetics to move away from the group when ill. Little Gatsby most likely had a genetic defect that made him to be the smallest one of the litter and only lasted as long as he could, poor little guy, but he was a fighter!!!

Saying that baby kitten Gatsby had had a genetic effect is only an assumption, and even it was so, then modern medication and its miracles could still have treated and cured this genetic defect, and so this is not a medically valid reason. Nor is it feasible to propound the stupid Darwinian theory of" Survival of the Fittest", as you claim. This theory makes sense only if one lives in a barbarian culture where no God-emanated civilization and culture exits, leaving the weak and innocent creatures defenseless in the face of monstrous mad men and mad women. Was baby kitten Gatsby living in a non-caring, uncivilized and barbarous culture??? Baby kitten, Gatsby, could have grown up to be a beautiful, charming, lovable adult cat, enjoying the pleasures and privileges of his beautiful God-given life if his owner parents had taken the responsibility of instigating immediate and proper medical attention. What a shame!!!

@@rolandfernandez9529 But you must realize that in nature the runt of the litters almost never make it to maturity, they are the smallest and weakest and in some cases not totally developed before they are born, but with human intervention yes most runts survive and most likely become the biggest out of the litter when they hit maturity, but you also have to remember that the owners do not have massive funding to allow the vets to administer all of the medical needs that the little ones need, that is why nature grants most wild critters multiple babies, to insure the success of the species, but again we humans intervene and sometimes to much, case in point feral cats & dogs in some countries they have been over ran by them and have taken very aggressive actions against them, all because we humans intervened. In all that is said yes it's tragic with a loss of a kitten and it may have survived to maturity with all of the medical needs but, one has to acknowledge that when the cost is to much, where do we call the limit! Most pet owners do not have thousands of dollars laying around, most have mortgages, car payments, and other bills to keep their lives on track, and if the owner is a breeder of cats then they too have a limit for pet medical expenses, it would be nice that health insurance would cover our pets along with our medical needs but society will render that aspect useless to cover, pets are owned like furniture, and that's a pity to call these special members of our families as furniture or some other owned object.

@@onelastchance648 Thank you for your kind comments. Very much appreciated. I have a very, very , very soft heart for animals, especially baby animals who suffer at the hands of accursed human bastards. It has been the Christian and commonsensical teaching that Almighty God has obligated us humans to love, care for and protect HIS beautiful, innocent and precious animals. This is the reason why HE chose to manifest HIMSELF first to HIS parents and then to animals in a stable at Bethlehem in Israel. It was the warmth of the ox and the ass which greatly comforted Baby Jesus as HE lay shivering in the cold in spite of HIS Beloved Mother's swaddling clothes with which She wrapped HIM in. Both the ox and the ass looked lovingly at Baby Jesus and lovingly shared their warmth with HIM. It gave them great joy. All animals are innocent and are deserving of human love. Animals depend in us humans for their survival because they cannot independently care for themselves as we humans can. Animals cannot verbalize the pain and sufferings that they go through from accidents, disease and sadistic torture at the hands of accursed human sadists, as well as those humans who in their stupidity and idiocy, do the most harmful things to animals, as they did to Baby Kitten Gatsby. My heart bled and still bleeds for Baby Kitten Gatsby for the pain and suffering that this little baby angel had to go through by his idiot caretakers. May God punish them severely for their horrible acts of stupidity and idiocy which was as good as human torture towards an innocent and angelic baby kitten. May our darling angelic baby kitten Gatsby find peace and rest in Jesus's Loving Arms. Thank you once again for responding. God bless you.

I'm sorry, but you should have taken that poor, tiny kitten to the vet as soon as you saw that he was sleeping too much. Then you noticed he wasn't breathing properly. Then he wasn't eating properly. Not only that, losing so much weight in such a short period of time and how mum was worried about him and him crying the way he was. How many signs do you need before you have to take this poor, sweet, tiny baby kitten to the vet. Is this your very first litter you've ever seen? Is that why it took you so long to clue in? Maybe Gatsby could have survived, if you had taken him earlier. 😢😢🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻♥️ 😢😢

I learned to call Gatsby's illness "Failure To Thrive." But it is also called “Fading Kitten Syndrome." KZread won't allow me to post links. But there is quite a bit of literature about it online. The best option is of course to have a vet check out the kitten and advise the best protocol. Understand of course that not every newborn of any species is going to survive. The reasons why they die are many. We me never know why in many cases. We can only do our best to help.

The kitten was too small, and I thought. that the problem is that there are a lot of kittens and there is not enough milk for everyone. On the 15th day after his birth, I still went to the clinic. In fact, they didn't tell me anything there. Externally, the kitten is healthy. They gave the kitten an injection of vitamins and told him to come in two days for a checkup.

I’ve raised a lot of kitten litters. You think you know but you really don’t. I’ve seen them start out sick an survive and I’ve got up to find healthy kittens that have passed in the night. I’m pretty firm at least with females that they get a trip to the vet as soon as possible. I’ve cried enough for a lifetime and it just keeps going on. Remember spay and neuter. Old people like me can’t take much more.

Usually there is one of them that is the weakest and couldn't survive. Mama cat knows this. But your love and effort to add feeding this baby made him survive more than 10 days❤ He couldn't breath easily, perhaps the vet could've given him oxygen inside incubator? I don't know. He could have something wrong in his heart or lungs. Farewell lovely Gatsby❤ Hope the rest will live up full life for you too
