Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things, Sweeney Todd) joins us again this week to share his perspective on Stranger Things coming to and end… how he’s preparing to say goodbye to Dustin after a eight years… and the lessons he’s learned after landing a hit show at the age of 12. Gaten starts the episode talking about his dream come true of performing Sweeney Todd on Broadway and the highs and lows that came with its seven month run. We also talk about the unique experience of literally growing up with his cast mates on a hit series, how he’s managing his mental health today, and being at peace with the reality of coming off one of the biggest series of all time.

@@kony2494 "hate to break it to you" but people like Britney Spears or Macaulay Culkin also got set for life very young. and unfortunately that didn't do them any good. or at least it brought them and other child stars just as many problems. Gaten Matarazzo really does seem like a person who hasn't been blinded by fame (or at least he is an actor good enough to give off such impression) while some other cast members of Stranger Things do seem like people who may spiral once their days of fame are over. really hope that won't be the case, of course, and the worst thing out of the series would be a few butchered narrative throughlines :)

Gaten is an incredible young man. I have so enjoyed watching him grow up. I met him and the rest of the cast of Stranger Things back in 2017 for Comic Con. As part of their protective detail I got to meet the real people and their families not just the “celebrity’” that all the fans clamor to see. He and his fellow costars were and continue to be incredible people. I’m glad I got the opportunity to meet and continue to run into Gaten. He is a very talented yet grounded young man. Last time I saw him I was working a premier and as a large crowd was passing me, he got my attention and gave me a hug. Who does that to the help? He is a genuinely good guy, not something I can say about very many famous people. Heck I can’t say that about many people in general. Remembering a guy who cannot advance his career or gain him anything monetarily makes him a rare bird indeed. Love this guy. Hope to see you again Gaten.

Love a bit of sci-fi, horror and so does my son (who was 12-13 at the time of the first episode)... and it was so freaking awesome to have my son relating to the kids and me relating to the kids (because I was there in the 80's as the same kids sort of thing) but still have the perspective as an adult... Love that show so much! sure we can find common shows that we like, but this one was on a whole other level... Would like it to never end, but ofc everything has to end somewhere...

What he said about peaks and valleys reminds me of a clip from Neil Patrick Harris, talking about when he was on Doogie Howser MD, and how....I think it was his agent? Or maybe it was a friend of his parents, but the person was an adult, who had been in the Hollywood industry for a VERY long time, and he gave Neil some advice that Neil has said was the best advice he ever got. He said that "Hollywood is like surfing. You have to paddle out to the deep water, and your fighting the waves just to get out there, and then you get out to the deeper part, and you look for your wave, and while you're out there, other people are grabbing waves that you didn't grab, and they go surfing in, and it's cool, and everyone cheers them, but you're still paddling, wading water. And then you finally get your big wave, and it's great, your riding high, it's exciting, people are cheering for you, and you are loving it....but then the wave is over, and you're back where you started, and you have to go paddle back out there and do it again. And that the trick to making it as a long career in Hollywood (and acting in general), is to be comfortable with the fact that you will have highs and lows, and to seek to be consistent with your work, and to appreciate all the steps along the way" Here is the actual clip where he words it better than me. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aZaHj6two9rUYdo.html

Gaten was literally owning roles on Broadway before Netflix found him. He's multi-talented along with Caleb. The two of them were casted half BECAUSE they knew each other from the Broadway circuit. Half of Tom Holland's fans don't even KNOW he did Broadway as a child. Half of those girls don't even KNOW what Billy Elliott is or was.
