Rory Mercury definitely my fave character of this franchise and this AMV is perfect homage to her.

Gate is by far one of my new favorite animes. Definitely in my top 5. The animation is amazing, and the concept is fucking epic. I was skeptical when I first heard it thinking it was gonna be one of those anime shows where the main character is too op and destroys people with inferior weapons and abilities. But seeing the political sides of both these nations and how different they are and how they clash, it's just amazing. And also has some of the most bone chilling badass moments, such as the scene where the prince went to approach the Lieutenant after they save the princess only for that sniper shot to come out of nowhere essentially giving him PTSD, it was scary just to think about how weak this nation is and how dumb the empire was to underestimate such a powerful force that couldnt even use the full extent of their military might.

My experiences with this anime are directly opposite to yours. I loved it at first (especially the horror of modern firepower in the clash with medieval-level armies shown IN YOUR FACE), but it quickly and painfully devolved into a harem anime focused on fantasy girls prancing around the main character. It was horrible. T^T

​@@GaGagushtos - If I remember correctly, I stopped watching at the point when the protag-man and his harem go hunt the dragon, because the blonde elf has mental issues and thinks that he is her father (which made everything WAY more creepy than it already was...). It was way more than this pathetic series ever deserved, I should've stopped at the very moment that underaged goth-wannabe bimbo appeared for the first time...

0:29 I watch AMVs for the epicness, and just as this one was getting there, this part made me literally laugh out loud. Still pretty epic, of course.

I was just getting at, that there are many examples where main characters are rather undelwhelming, and the side characters steal the show. Good examples would be Demon Slayer where the current Hashira always take the spotlight. Or JJk with Gojjo being the absolute icon he is.

Rewatched it and it really is one of those gems that makes you feel glad to be alive. This near future image of military and mc's that are someone who kicks ass instead of getting his ass kicked (and not an anime about some power freak demon king or untouchable hero) definitely is unique. Basically at least 1 world where everyone being 100 times more powerful than anything from our world is not the case.

there are 3 NA voices you must hear. spike from cowboy bepop, revy from black lagoon and rory from gate. if you havent heard the english versions of these 3 i am sorry for your incomplete life. nothing against the japanese VA's but those 3 are a must listen and enjoy.

its sad that you are so isolated that you feel 'most of us' are weak like you, I watched gate because I'm a sucker for modern vs ancient. watching machine guns mow down roman legionaires. sure there was a lot of cringe. JDSF is super great etc. but to watch an entire 24 episode show because of a couple scenes with one character? did you also watch Kaguya wants to be confessed to because of the chika dance? I mean fine, but to ADMIT that? most people at least pretend that they enjoy things for other reasons. but its not why most people watched the show. they watched the show because they wanted to see a modern army kicking an ancient armies ass. Modern solutions to ancient problems etc.
