Don't go towards fancy things. If you spend four years in any branch it is easy to you to crack gate in that branch. And almost all data science courses in iits allow all branches( m mgt iisc, MS in DSAI iit bombay, iit dehli MINds, iit roorkee DS, IIT jodhpur DS, IIT G DS, IIT bhilai DS, NIt suratkal DS. You can check the eligible criteria for your branch in all iit.

Yeah I partially agree. But NPTEL probably isn't customised for GATE as such! But yes why not.

I did M.tech from IIT Delhi. Currently working for a consulting firm which has laid off many people from IITs, NITs, etc. Some advice to those going for M.tech. 1. Don't do Mtech until you are very much interested. 2. Only focus on your Mtech, don't do any other preparation 3. Sit only for those companies which are working in your domain. I have seen many people who prepare for Data science, ML during their Mtech and then sit for those jobs, it doesn't go well in CV. You will realize this 2 years after in Job. Moreover, DS, ML, AI is fast changing space, you are always on the edge of being laid off. 4. It is better to prepare for govt. exams rather than do Mtech, if you are only doing Mtech for stipend. 5. An MBA is much better than Mtech, if you want a job in IT, consulting, Finance, etc. If you want job in core domain and if you are interested, then only go for Mtech.
