It's a shame that such a beautiful backhand did not come with more championships. Unfortunately the future generations will ignore that once upon a time there was a player with that a amazing shot.

Amen to than - IMAO probably the most amazing execution of a movement of any sport - unrivalled movement poetry to the nth degree. Much lIke a bicycle kick in football, a bullseye in darts, a massive dunk in NBA, a finishing spinning kick in MMA.

When I was growing up, all the boys in my neighborhood who played tennis were taught one handed backhand. I was one of them too. Only girls were taught two handed backhand. That was like 15 years ago. I don't know what's gone wrong today.

Gasquet should just go for his backhand on every single fucking point, and then he'd probably win some big titles.

Federer strong point believe is or not is not his backhand. Serve, Forehand, feel, movement(anticipation) are all superb. If you watch a lot of his match, when his opponent attack that backhand side with heavy balls, all he could really do is put it back into play. Gasquet backhand is a threat to any players because it got some serious pace.

Everybody say that 2-handed backhand is better than one-handed and there is no advantage to hit one-handed. ???. There is at least one advantage (if you become a pro), everybody want to see those cool backhands (in KZread) and just like us, they're watching them by their favorite players.

el revez de gasquet esta lleno de top spin, y el de wawrinka es mas plano, pero para mi el mejor es el de wawrinka porque lo tira mas para hacer el winner, en cambio gasquet arma el punto y despues hace el tiro fulminante

This is not so much a backhand but an art form. Unfortunately, you can't get Grand Slam titles for it.

nick fit it is ofcourse an artform and a backhand like this is one of tge best, but his forehand and mental strength is what kept him away from grandslams

Gasguet struggles against Rafa. Almagro is super strong on his BH side and 4th best Clay Courter in the world still has lots of trouble against rafa. Wawrinka doesn't do so well against him either, they all mention the difficulty on the backhand side even for them.

yeah ur right gasquet's backhand is more powerful than federer but he doesnt have the variety of federer which includes slice, top spin, flat shots, crazy angles, half volleys...

capable of much more topspin and angle on bh than any human to ever walk the Earth. Great volleyer, half-volleyer, swing-volleyer with it as well.

  • @Andy180084

i don't think so, gasguets bh requires too much initiative to take. Roger likes to hit inside-out fh's which is what makes him great. If he had wawrinka's bh, sure, i bet he'd be greater.

Gasquets backhand seems better to me. Federer, however, is a better player overall

  • @millionairejh

gasquets backhand is amazing in the right situations. He its it incredibly hard, and hes able to maintain that shot against mostly any other shot. Federers however, may not always be as powerful, but he has the variety and more options. Federer holds his backhand closer to a continental than gasquets eastern. This gives federer more flexibility with his options. he could even slice at the last moment if he chooses too. Ull prolly never really see gasqet hit a backhand slice.

well he doesn't have a serve or a forehand, he's not especially athletic, and he's notorious for choking despite his obvious talent I can't believe he hasn't even sneaked a final appearance in a slam yet, with only one sf and other than that never even making it past the fourth round. he's a chronic underachiever, even though he's fun to watch

Federer is great, yes, but his backhand is far from the best. Gasquet, Wawrinka, Djoker, and Murray all have better backhands by far. Federer's backhand is the entire reason Nadal beats him all the time. Nadal pounds Federer's backhand side with those heavy forehands, and Fed's BH breaks down.
