    They look like they’re having fun. I saw them at the very tail end of their original run. Including their last London and Final ever show at Reading. And there was an emptiness to those performances. Great but. Solemn. I’m so happy they’re back. Obviously needed the rest 👍🏻

    Never seen another band that could vary so much show to show as the GLA did. Saw them loads the first time around and they did some of the greatest shows i've seen in 30 years of watching music (one in Oxford in my top 3, possible top1!), yet they also churned through some turgid sets that had me wanting to go home halfway through. I actually really enjoyed the final Hammersmith show because it felt like the band was relieved to know it was their last dance and the atmosphere was weirdly great (to me), but I totally get what you're saying about the later years being a real struggle. Fallon's solo shows were more miss than hit for me, and I can't get on board with the increase in between-song chat, but again I saw some magic moments. McLusky and Shellac are the only bands i've ever seen that improve for between song mumblings, and that's only because their singers could do stand up in another life! Anyway, wonderful to have the GLA back and enjoying their music again. I don't mind the new record and I'll catch them at the Roundhouse for old time's sake. This band has been one of the soundtracks to my life, and it's just great to see them all happy together again.

    I’ve always loved TGA from day one but have to be honest and say I thought Brian got a little bit carried away with himself with his solo stuff and I couldn’t get onboard with his entire persona but it seems to have had a positive effect in the long run as he’s come back with the band and they sound better and more in tune than I’ve ever heard them. Nobody makes heart warming/breaking music like they do at the same time. Can’t wait for the new record and I’m back in love with Brian just to be clear! And his new look is inspiring for a near 40 yr old dad like myself...real music is made by real people

    Sal Baglio of the Stompers explained this nearly 50 years ago: you got two 'sounds', you got the rough live stuff and you got the tweaked, clean studio stuff. I'm with you re. GA but there's an audience for the 'rough' too.

  • @jamescox4193

    @jamescox4193

    To continue the story, I think the 'two sounds' killed the Stompers. Their live shows were a celebration of rock n roll but their studio stuff was dull dull dull. And they never went anywhere because of that. There's nothing dull dull dull about GA live or in studio though.
