Hi.This is a very common problem with this mercedes benz. You can get that part in Amazon or ebay is exactly the same as the Genuine one. You can search it as FUEL PUMP CLOSING COVER. I'm glad I was able to help. Thanks for watching

Hello. You can buy them on ebay, Amazon or at the dealer. The passenger side you can buy it on ebay but the driver side i recommend to buy the Genuine/original, just because is the filter. hey my drivers side is cracked and i seen one of your other videos of the drivers side and i seen its the sending unit and you had took it out whole do i have to replace the whole sending unit or just the cover?

You can replace just the cover, but I suggest you change the whole sender unit so you don't have transfer the components from the old one to the new one, it would be much easier for you.

Had this issue but the cover looked good. Checked the other side (driver) and I can see a long hairline crack in it. Do you have a video to change that one out? Looks more complicated than this one since there looks to be a sensor or something in the middle of it. Should I just take it into a dealer/mechanic and get highway robbed?

Hi. I don't have a video of how to change the fuel sender unit but I do have a video of how to disconnect the fuel pressure sensor, thats the one you see on the top. I believe is videos on KZread of how to replace it, it is a bit more difficult, but I'm sure if you can find a video, you can definitely do it, and save your self some money.

@@hackerskates thanks for the reply. Actually that part number is for right hand side cover. In your video, You showed left hand driver side cover plate part which has a center hole in it, for fuel filter. That’s the one I am not able to find.

Hi. I was able to find the part number for the fuel filter A1714700690 I found it on ebay

would this problem be the same for 2011 e350 coupe ? have gas odor right side but don't seem to have odor inside car . also do you need the fuel level in tank to be low before removing white plate ? Just filled up a few days ago and have driven car once, a short distance. Odor stronger after fill up, right side.

Hi. Most likely you have the same problem, the best way to check is by having the tank competently full remove the seat and the metal plate that cover the pump and inspect for cracks on the fuel pump cover. And to replace it is better if the tank is in 3 quarters empty or so to avoid any gas spill.

@@hackerskates Only problem is removing back seat with center console. figured out the seat cushion area but the console not sure how to pull it up with cushions which is all one piece. Something holding console down, afraid to break it..

@@richo5661 hi, usually the center console is holed by hidden screws, like the 2010 E550 is under the cup holders and you won't see them unless you remove the bottom rubbe of the cup holder. I'm not sure if yours has cup holders.

@@hackerskates Thank You very much. Seen pictures of the bottom of seat on ebay. Shows that either a bolt/screw or a slip in locking stud right under cup holder. Really looks like that slip in type. Don't have correct name for it. Will have to investigate this. I thank You VERY MUCH for Your help. Oh and Awesome Vid You have that I will follow.

I removed the black plate and my cover was completely black with soot. I thought the part was black till I swiped it and saw it was white. Unfortunately, to me, the cover is not cracked. Can you suggest what is causing the gas odor. It's when I've filled the tank and only smells on the outside. Thanks!

Hello friend. After you inspect both sides of your tank ( passenger and driver side covers) and you have no leaks, you can proceed to take the back tire that is close to the gas filler nek, you can inspect around that area for possible leaks, keep in mind that this process is bet to do it with the tank totally full, to make it easy to spot any leaks.

Ok, because all the videos I saw were on the passenger side, I never checked the driver side. I'll do that now. I can only smell the gas around the gas cap. I took it off then put it back on and heard a good "click" sound. Maybe I'm not putting enough pressure when I put it back on. Thanks again!@@hackerskates

WOW!!! I started to take everything off and when I went to take off the ring (after the black plate), gas started pouring out! Tank was full. Lost 1/4 of a tank. So, with that in mind, is it the seal? The fuel pump?

Hi, if after taking the black plate off you didn't see any signs of gas around the area, the fuel pump cover is good and thats not the problem.

I couldn't tell if thee was gas or not because the whole area was completely black with soot. and since the tank was full, it started coming up.

Did yours leak from underneath the car mine does only when the car is full on gas tho

Hi. (No it didn't had a leak underneath, if it did i didn't saw it) what happened with my car was that every time I fuel up I had a bad gas smell inside, I thought it had a cracked hose or something broken underneath but it was just the fuel pump cover. You can probably start checking on the top first that would be the easiest if you don't see any gas on the fuel pump covers( check passenger and driver) you can check underneath it would definitely makes it easier to find leaks when the car is full of gas.

Ever found problem

My mechanic did a job on this. What if he doesn’t disconnect the battery? Cos I’m suspicious as suddenly a bunch of misfire codes turned up with electrical codes on the sensors zzz

Hi. I changed that part 2 times already and the first time I did it, I disconnect the battery, which is the correct way to do it; I also replaced it without disconnecting the battery and in both cases the car didn't misfire. Honestly this mercedes are not good like they used to, you fix one thing then soon another problem will come. Not good. Thank you for watching.

My Benz is a C300 and it also smells like gas. How safe it’s to drive it like that? It’s safe to keep it in the garage? Im scared to drive it now.

Hi, I drove my mercedes smelling like gas for like 2 months before I fixed; is probably better if you don't keep it in the garage. If you don't have the time to fix it right away, what you can do is next time you fuel up only add gas to half tank to avoid gas leaks from the fuel pump cover.

Hi. If is the driver side, you have to replace the fuel filter. You can search on Amazon or ebay by typing the year and model of your car and it would show you a list and you can see what's compatible with your vehicle, I would recommend you to buy a genuine ( original part) if you buy it at the dealership they will be able to help you with the correct part.

Hi. If the passenger side is leaking, you would need to replace the cover, if the driver side is leaking then you would have to change the sender unit.

Sorry, the $160 is for the engine mounts thats a different video; my bad. For the fuel pump cove I paid $33 thats was after market because the Genuine didn't last and is best if you can replace it with half of tank or less to avoid gas spill.

What if it's leaking from the bottom of the car, is it still the lid? Because there are no tubes coming from the bottom

Hello friend. The first place to check is the fuel pump cover(passenger side) and the fuel filter (driver side) both are located under the back seat, this are known for going bad. If no signs of gas leak then you can take the back tire off(the tire that is close to the fuel filler neck) and take the cover that is around the tire so you can see if your fuel filler neck is cracked. YOU MOST CHECK THIS WITH YOUR TANK TOTALLY FULL it would be easier to spot the leak. Thanks for watching.
