Doc talks about gas powered reel mowers and shows a variety of models. Then cuts with the two 25" reel mowers down to 1/2" If you want to keep your lawn short, then a reel mower really is your only option. Doc breaks down the reel mower models and cuts the Bermuda lawn.

It’s so strange that year after year you say the same thing. “Keep it short.” Anyone that doesn’t believe it should come look at my Bermuda. Following your steps my lawn looks amazing after two years post new sod. Best game-plan on the KZread. Thanks doc

Most have rotary mowers and it is hard to cut any shorter than 2" or we get scalp marks

It’s almost impossible to keep grass that short without a reel mower though and most aren’t gonna spend the coin for it. I cut as low as I can go on my rotary and that’s level 2 because lvl 1 will scalp to dirt in some areas. Can’t afford a reel mower and have roots in my yard that would destroy one lol

Doc, I have researched the problem with the very small Super Juice spray bottles and have discovered a much better solution. I purchased a two liter bottle of A&W Root Beer and after finishing it, I tried what I had hope would work. The wonderful spray head screws down tightly after removing the loose cap ring. Now I can treat much more if my lawn without returning to the 5 Gallon mixing bucket to get it refilled. PS - I have followed all of your lawn procedures for the last year or so, and my cool season grass has never been healthier. Keep up the good work. Ken Ohio

As much as I love my bermuda yard, and as much as i cut it (at least 2 times a week), I just cannot spend this much money on a mower. I told my wife that owning one was a dream of mine and she gave me "the look". You know, the one that happens before you sleep on the couch for a month. So yeah, going to stick with my rotary for awhile and slowly save up 😁

You just can't beat the look of a lawn cut with a reel mower. My neighbor's yard is nice and green and weed free but still has a different appearance compared to mine since they use a rotary.

Not sure if you have talked about this specifically in a video, but could you do a video discussing the pros and cons of reel mowers vs rotary mowers? If budget doesn’t allow for reel mower like this, what are other options to give to people for reel mowers and for rotary mowers?

You wouldn’t like Bermuda. It looks good five or six months out of the year, then goes dormant looks dead. Plus, it’s extremely invasive. It’s a real chore keeping it out of flower beds. I absolutely hate the stuff. I loved Kentucky Bluegrass, when I lived up north. If you live in an area where Kentucky Bluegrass and Fescue are mostly used, check out the “Lawn Care Nut” channel and his earlier videos made before he moved to Florida. He lived near Chicago and likely had a lawn like yours. I think he had fescue. He has lots of good tips there. I’m sure PGF Complete, Innova 7-1-2, and Humichar would do work great on your lawn.

Hey Doc, love your videos, thanks. Hey wanted to get your feedback on something. My lawn hasn't been aerated in probably 6-7 years and has some rough spots. I had my lawn aerated last Saturday so its been a couple days. I used a 3 in 1 Scotts Turf Builder (fertilizer/ seed and soil builder) on it today and then watered a bit. I really don't think there was enough seed in the 3 and 1 bag, so I am curious if I should do a straight overseeding on the lawn tomorrow and then do a starter fertilizer again a few days after that? Let me know what you think. Thanks, appreciate it. Tim

Can you do a video on raising the McClane back wheels to get a lower cut, per the manual? This is much cheaper than buying a new front roller... according to the manual, you just need a few more chain links.

I have Bermuda, hard red clay soil, and we are a hundred yards from lake Lewisville in North Texas. I hired TruGreen to treat my yard because I didn't know my lawn. (New House as of July 2020) It is patchy and some areas are yellow. And a few spaces are bare so I put down some fresh topsoil and seed in the bare areas. I water 2 times a day with sprinkles. What do you recommend for my clay soil?

Best thing is to rent a sod cutter and cut it all out. You can kill it off with round up first if you'd like. That will give you the best chance of leveling it all out and getting good soil contact with the new sod.
