On the labels in Canada that show mileage, they use miles per Imperial Gallon, meaning that 32MPG is not the same in Canada and the US (32 US MPG=7.3Litres/100km, 32 Imperial =8.82 Litres/100km). That said, officially in the US, the 2014 F-150 gets 21 mpg (11.2 Litres/100km, 25.2 Imperial), so a person would be using roughly 2.4 more litres per 100km than it's advertised

She is just mad that she over paid a new VW cost the dealer $10,000 then they put $3200 in PDI and delivery and overhead then there is a $5000 commission split 50/50 with the sales manger and sales person. So you wonder why your car is worth less than $10,000 a less than a year after you paid $18,500+ its because the car was only worth $10,000 to start and the rest was all commission $8500 in depreciation on commission save your self some $ buy used

The fuel mileage you showed for the F150 on Ford's website was for the 4x2 3.7L single cab. Not the 3.5L twin turbo Ecoboost Supercrew which is rated at 16 L/100km city, and 11. 5L/100km highway. Considering you were testing the Ecoboost, the 12L/100km that you got in mixed driving is right as axvertised. A little research goes a long way.

Not quite, as I think you are looking at the updated, more accurate ratings. I'm an American so intuitively, MPG is easier for me to relate to than L/100km so I will be using MPG for my argument. CBC's screenshot shows a highway rating of 32 MPG. Let's assume the best and say that is, in fact, for the 3.7, which is marginally more efficient than the turbo 3.5. The US EPA states that for that year, make, and model, the highway MPG is a more realistic 23. The EPA also says that the turbo 3.5 model gets 22 highway. Extrapolating this 1-MPG difference to the Canadian 3.7 rating, we see that the 3.5 should be rated at about 31 MPG. Ford's overestimation would be laughable if it wasn't so misleading and I am very glad that Canada has clamped down on these overinflated fuel economy numbers.

should you get compensated? No, I don't believe you should. If saving a few pennies per mile is important to you turn off your AC, roll up your windows, maintain a constant 55 mph on the highway, avoid slowing down and speeding up, never accelerate while going uphill, don't haul around more fuel than you need (quarter tank will do), make sure your tire pressure stays slightly above recommended pressure for your tires, live at sea level, and accept that you will not match the numbers because the test is done in a lab and is there to compare it to other cars that are tested under the same unrealistic "perfect" conditions.

  • @Jin88866

@@Jin88866 That is both correct and incorrect depending on the scenario. To address one of those scenarios: Yes, more.efficient to always be in high gear = low rpm and high load. But when going up and down hills on a highway it's much better to use momentum of a car already in motion and just maintain speed uphill or even reduce speed slightly for even better efficiency in moving the car regardless of engine efficiency. In other words why would you waste all that energy speeding up only to be counteracted by NOT ONLY aerodynamics and rolling friction of the tires against the ground but ALSO by climbing the hill. If you want to speed up just wait till you're rolling downhill and you wouldn't use as much fuel as you would speeding up on level ground and definitely not as much as you would speeding up uphill. Get it?

Trichome Farmer Do you always over react like this, or is your vagina especially sandy today? "you're going to wear your tires out twice as fast" Maybe if you doubled the pressure you would create uneven wear, but adding 20% won't have any drawbacks. I'd imagine your shocks would pay a price but the tires would be fine as long as you rotate them on a schedule. And yes, driving techniques are important to saving gas as well. Like coasting and avoiding using the brakes as much as possible.. "especially in canada where they get really bad winters" Well, snow tires are important for winter.. Again though, another 20% air pressure in a good winter tire won't have any negative drawbacks and will reduce rolling resistance. Next time you feel yourself ready to lose your shit over a simple comment, maybe take a few deep breaths and think if it's worth flipping out over.

There is a HUGE difference in mileage if you drive the speed limit, don't accelerate too quickly, look ahead and time lights so you don't race to a light just to start again. I've exceeded the stated mileage for every vehicle I have ever owner. It is also very important to have proper tire inflation, clean filters and fluid, tuneup and less weight in the car. Most people that complain have at least one of the mentioned above wrong with their car or they drive too fast/aggressive.

I've added headers, K&N air filter, dualed of the exhaust with high performance mufflers. This allows the truck to breathe easier. I also upgraded the distributor, cap and rotor to high performance ones. I keep the tires at the proper pressure. Now I get about 14mpg pulling the trailer and almost 20mpg not pulling it. Any car guy should know in the United States that cars are tested on pretty much a roller system and they rarely hit speeds above 55mph. The cars are never forced into stop start, up/down hill, highway, change in weather, weight load on the vehicle. So when you see the window sticker MPG you should always +/- 1~5. This is how you get better MPG 1) CLOSE windows (opened windows do more damage to MPG than AC). FACT. 2) Don't rev past 2.5k RPM. Lower revs, better MPG. 3) On hwy - turn on cruise control. The car will select the best gear with optimal MPG 4) Any aftermarket parts might increase air resistance (worse aerodynamics) and reduce MPG. Heater and AC do decrease MPG (better than opened windows), as well as AWD. Now, in regards to the video. The woman with VW has a freaking roof rack. That thing alone can EASILY add 1L/100km because it acts as an air brake (like on McLaren supercar).

I find nothing more irritating than riding shotgun in someones car & it's either full throttle or full-on braking, nether is good for mileage nor the vehicle in general. These are the types who constantly complain about the poor quality of their cars, frequent breakdowns & such....& they don't even notice how poorly they drive!

While I get why some people might be mad, if you want to get those numbers, you have to change your driving habits. If you are hard on the gas, it doesn't matter if you drive a Prius or a Lamborghini. Top gear did a great test. They told a prius to drive as fast as it can around a track and told an M3 to just keep pace with the prius. The prius burnt more gas than the M3 because it was full throttle the entire time while the M3 was barely leaning on the throttle. Also, a/c or the windows down will impact it. This like complaining that you didn't get the advertised 0-60 time when you have the A/C on, the windows rolled down, and you're towing a boat.

This helps me remember to change the oil every 5K miles, rotate my tires and track the overall performance of my vehicle. Just keeping your oil and filters clean and tires in good shape will help gas mileage. I also use low resistance rolling tires which gives me a small improvement in MPG. I also go easy on the gas pedal when accelerating and coast when ever possible.

Try to distribute the weight of the stuff you carry (mostly to the front) , inflate your tires to the recommended psi, give proper maintenence to the car and if the car comes equiped with the auto/start stop. use it, that thing alone will give you up to 10% more range on city.

I usually get around those numbers especially on the freeway when it's much lower at around 7.5 L/100 km. City driving I usually get it around 9.5 L/100 km. My RAV-4 is usually always good on gas and I have no problems. I've driven from Richmond Hill to London which is almost 2.5 hours away from each other and I was good on one tank of gas alone. It was almost empty but not to the point where it was a fraction of a second away from empty.

It is way better in the US. Like, my old Pontiac Grand Prix advertised 25 to 27 Mpg when purchased new. It has now gone over 201 thousand miles. I like to calculate the Mpg by hand every once in awhile to make sure everything is functioning well. You go to your favorite gas station, fill up the tank as full as it will allow, then hit the trip meter and drive until you need gas again. Go back to the same gas station on the same pump and fill the tank all the way up as much as possible again. Write down how many gallons you just purchased. Say hypothetically you got 15.336 gallons and the trip meter reads 400.0 miles. You then divide the number of miles (400) by the numbers of gallons used to refill the tank (15.336). 400.0/15.336= 26.1 miles per gallon. I found that depending on how aggressively I accelerate and how much I speed, and whether I drive mostly on the highway or mostly in town or a mixture, I achieved between 22.1 and 30.0 Miles per gallon with my typical driving getting just under 25mpg on average. It is duly noted that if I drive very carefully, (all the other drivers literally hate me) I virtually never touching my breaks, and accelerate very very slowly and always use the cruise control and maintain my car excessively then I can push my mpg to 30-32mpg with instantaneous mpg readings on the highway/freeway hovering around 45 to 50mpg and in town between 15 and 24mpg, but that is very difficult to maintain and requires that I stay very far back from other cars to never need to break and only accelerate gradually. It was fun to experiment how high I could get it on my 44-mile round trip commute to college for four years, but it is otherwise impractical if you are not doing an experiment and have all the time in the world. I found that my car gets the best return on energy when going 45mph. At 55mph the wind resistance is higher but it is still quite good. At 70mph which many highways are around me, my car gets less mpg as there is much more wind resistance to overcome constantly. It is quite easy to tell when you using more gas by looking at the RPM gauge on your dash.

I bought a 2006 Ram 1500 hemi with 315k. The reader said 35k per 100k. I did a tune up (throttle body was blacker then the abyss) so I did a full engine clean. Reset the reader and now for city I get 21k per 100k in the city and 14k per 100k on the highway (Toronto to Windsor). Now also I put a 6" suspension lift and I got 35" mudders on her. Most people don't realize that you gotta keep checking your tire pressure and if you haul any heavy loads you'll use more gas and if you don't properly maintain the vehicle....then you're asking for trouble. Also city driving veries on where in the city you drive. Downtown Toronto for example where there's a lot of stop and go from lights to people running across the streets uses more gas. Even when you turn on and off your vehicle,it sends a fuel shot. Also the AC uses gas (most people don't know that)So if you do a lot of stop and go's and turn off your engine in between....you're not saving much. Now my truck is nearly at 500k and milage has gotten better (compared to when I first got her) and she costs me $120 a week (I buy gas at costco) and I drive her everyday bringing the kids to and from school with trips in between. And one tank will last me 1 Saturday to the next. Also if you have a heavy foot and like to burn it out.....that will cost ya as well. But in all honesty when I was looking for a truck I was looking for something badass. Gas milage was last one my list 😎

Why does he talk about "American's" and "Canadian's" like they are two different people when Canadians are American's, too? Anyone from Peru, Brazil, Guatemala, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Panama, the U.S. or Canada is an "AMERICAN". Why do people always use the term incorrectly? Look on the map. "AMERICA" is 3 different continents. North America, South America and Central America. It doesn't stop at the Canadian border. Canadians are just as much "AMERICAN'S" as U.S. citizens are. Why do people always use these incorrect statements? People living south of Canada she be called, "U.S. citizens", not just "American's." Everyone makes it like U.S. Citizens are the only American's on the planet when that is simply not true. All the news and movies all get it wrong. This needs to stop.

I have a 1.6l petrol Ford Focus MK1 and I'm doing the exact as advertised mpg. 5.5l/100km on the highway and around 10l in the city with bumper to bumper traffic. Just to be clear I got the 5.5l on the highway running at 150-160 km/h half the way. I wanted to test the car. I did use the AC on the 1's level to not have foggy windows. I ran at night. The car was made in 2002 and I ran the test in 2015. Bought it from Germany at about 250.000 km. I guess they don't make them how they use to. Or the mpg is just given by the size of the car. The Focus MK1 only weighs 1200 kg and I did the test with an extra 200 kg in it (myself, my wife and our luggage).

I just bought a brand new 2019 VW Jetta, Rated at 40 mpg highway, 34 city. I don't do hardly any city driving, but doing the speed limit on the highway cruise set at 100 km/h It is getting more then its rated for, the car says its average is 44.8 mpg. I know they USED to be tested on the highway at 55 miles per hour (90km/h) not sure if thats still the case today.

In my experience buy a Honda Accord if you are worried about mileage, because I have had two different models of Honda Accord. 2015 Honda Accord (2.4) - Highway mileage at 140 km/h speed was 7.2 L/100 (I bought this car brand new, drove it for about 63000 Km and then I sold it. I would get 6 L/100 at 120 Km/h speed and sometimes even 5.5 to 5.8 L/100. 2008 Honda Accord (2.4) - Highway mileage at 130 km/h speed is 7.8 L/100 ( I bought this as a used car in 2016, I was 3rd owner of this car with 233000 Km on odometer, now I have 263000 Km on odometer, still getting same mileage as claimed by Honda.

Beware the MPG posted on the sticker is usually based on Imperial Gallon used in England. In the US, the gallon is smaller so you get a lower MPG #. For instance 6.0/100 in England would be 47 MPG but in the US you get 39 MPG. Of course a higher number posted on the window looks more attractive. Have a Subaru hybrid. The number vary a lot depends on traffic condition. On light traffic on the highway, I can sometimes get the posted 6.0L/100 with 4 passengers as long as the AC & heater is turned off (spring to fall). The vehicle needs to be kept at 100km/h with cruise control on and no aggressive driving / frequent passing. Need to be driving for at least 1/2h to get a good average. When starting, the efficiency # tend to be higher at 12L/100 and gradually drop. In the city driving moderate traffic I can manage to keep the number at 8.4L/100 or lower. You need some speed to keep the hybrid batteries charged. If you are in bumper-to-bumper or complete stop for too long (up to 10 min), the battery is low and you are just burning gas. Winter driving you get a much lower rating because the engine needs to warm up properly.

Forget the gas mileage, the service bills are unreal, especially Audi And VW, I drove across use and Canada in a Durango and got 8.1l per 100 I'm. I was very impressed. But bury the hammer and it was 25l per 100 km. But fuel was cheap around $3.00/ gallon and $60.00 to fill it, imagine in Ireland at €1.50/ liner!

Mary should remove the Thule roof rack. Much more drag on the highway. The wind diffuser reduces noise but increases drag as well. That's only part of it though my car is a vw too and doesn't do as well as advertised either.

Already in the Ford ad we see a problem. Fuel efficency are not necesserly tied to the size of the engine. However; you cannot have a powerful engine that are also cheap on gas. Everything are compromise between those. I owned a 2006 Jetta FSI. It averaged about 6.5l/100km at about 130 km/h. Driving through Germany to Switzerland and back to Sweden I could go about 650km and then some on a single tank. Good engine.

I get 34 mpg on a 2015 audi a8 v8 4.0 supercharged. All you have to do is keep it between 1500 rpm to 1000 rpms. Thats it if you drive really fast your rpms goes up and you consume more gas.

In the past 7 years I have two car that were identical a 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe SR and a 2012 Nissan Altima Coupe SR. The 2008 was totaled out due to flood damage and replaced by insurance company; both cars were new when purchased/replaced. Both were equipped with the same amenities except the 2012 had a slight front end redesign with the head lights and hood. Now I would conclude that the cars would get the same distance on a tank of gas with mixed driving, but to my surprise the 2008 was getting 650 miles to a tank (1046 km) and the 2012 is achieving 500 miles (805 km). What is the cause for the 150 mile (240 km) difference? I have had no change in driving habits or distances driven on a tank of gasoline.

these mpg numbers are there for have a comparison between brands and models. MPGs always changes based on driving, weight, accessories (like the thule roof rack in that vw), altitude, road conditions, weather etc. it will be almost impossible come up with a accurate MPG. that's why all cars are given a mpg rating by driven in a treadmill with the same "conditions" so manufactures have a mpg estimate so the customers can use as a comparative purposes.

The No. 1 thing people need to do is get a digital tire pressure gage and use it often if you want to get close to the milage on the sticker. Remember new tires believe it or not need to be broken in it's true your numbers will go down slightly with brand new tires. Some new car transmissions break in to the way someone drives their car so when you test drive certain cars the transmission shifting seems off. Once you drive the car for a few tanks of gas you will notice the difference in the shifting. If possible press on the pedal just enough so the transmission shifts at 2000 rpm on most cars the transmission will adapt to this and in combination with keeping your tire pressure right you will get very close to the sticker. I do it and get very close or what the sticker says. The old test was a 2 cycle test, the new test is a 5 cycle test.

In the US we used to deal with outrageous claims of fuel economy, but today the EPA only allows realistic fuel economy to be posted on the vehicle sticker.
